Lada Guruden Singh has stepped down from his role as General Manager, Sony Pictures International Productions (Spip), India, where he oversaw local production, and has entered a producing deal with the studio. At Spip India, Singh has been instrumental in acquiring and developing superhero IP Shaktimaan while other projects included the remake of Spanish hit Campenoes and Chetan Bhagat’s One Indian Girl. Singh also expanded Sony Pictures’ footprint in Telugu with breakout hit Major and spearheaded the studio’s debut in Tamil with Amaran which is due for release later this year. The prize sponsored by Maida Lynn’s Genuine Article Pictures was established to help lift the financial burdens on indie film producers and to help build the independent film community through leadership and mentoring. It’s different from other filmmaking grants in that it supports the producer and is not based on a project or specific work.
