A Breed Apart (2025) is a creature horror flick written and directed by The Furst Brothers. Whether you’re talking about zero-budget Found Footage movies or tentpole blockbuster productions, getting a feature-length film off the ground is always a herculean task. That’s why it’s so tragic when a project goes off the rails, as I think most cinephiles can agree that no cast or crew has ever wanted to be part of a bad movie.

I bring this up because I want to believe that the Furst Brothers’ horror-comedy A Breed Apart is not the movie that the filmmakers originally set out to make. Only a particularly turbulent production beset by unforeseen complications, one would think, could have resulted in such a messy final product that represents some of the worst trends in modern filmmaking.

A Breed Apart was marketed as a meta-fictional follow-up to the Wes Craven-produced killer dog film, The Breed. While the majority of horror fans only remember that one...

Ahead of the release of Jurassic World Rebirth, team members behind the film will discuss its scientific and environmental impacts at the Hollywood Climate Summit.

Late A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last House on the Left and Scream director Wes Craven was responsible for some of the most iconic movies, characters and moments in horror cinema, but he was also behind his share of duds, and one of 'em is getting a (very) loose remake.

Craven didn't actually direct 2006's The Breed, but he was a producer on the film, and recruited his A New Nightmare assistant director Nick Mastandrea to helm. The movie was not well-received (to say the least), so it was generally assumed that a remake could only be an improvement.

The original movie focused on two brothers and their friends travelling to an island cabin they inherited from their recently deceased uncle for a relaxing weekend getaway. The group is then besieged by genetically enhanced dogs bred to kill via an abandoned training facility on the Island. A Breed Apart...

Back in 2006, the late, great Wes Craven produced a killer dog movie called The Breed (watch it Here), which was directed by Nicholas Mastandrea from a screenplay by Robert Conte and Peter Martin Wortmann and starred Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively, Hill Harper, Nick Boraine, and Lisa-Marie Schneider. Now a remake of The Breed is in the works, going by the title A Breed Apart – and Lionsgate is planning to give the film a theatrical release on May 16th. Back in June 2024, we learned that Fall stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be starring in an upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed. Well, guess who just joined the cast? Scream star Hayden Panettiere! She, along with several others, will be starring alongside Gardner and Currey in the new horror film.

Wait! We need to clear some things up about this movie first. It's not actually a remake. It was initially believed to be one, but instead, it's a sequel to The Breed. It's also been given an official title, A Breed Apart.

While it's still unclear who is writing the script for the film, filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst (Nightmare Shark) will be directing and producing via their Curmudgeon Films production company. In addition, Daro Film Distribution is signed on to co-produce and will be financing the movie as well.

ABC placed five titles on the chopping block on Friday. Among the five were Kyra Sedgwick-starrer Call Your Mother and the Nicholas Pinnock-fronted legal drama For Life.

The two stars shared their reactions on social media Friday following the news.

Sedgwick broke the news that the sitcom, from Kari Lizer, will not return to ABC for a sophomore season on Twitter. In the same tweet, she thanked the series’ fan base and alerted them that the upcoming episode will be its last.

“You guys have been so wonderful to tune in every week, or every other week or every took weeks,” she said. “The rollout was nuts!”

ABC will not be dialing Call Your Mother again.

The network has officially canceled the Kyra Sedgwick comedy after one low-rated season.

Sedgwick revealed the news on Twitter, while also taking a swipe at the way ABC scheduled the series.

"Before it goes out there in the world I want my fans to be the first to know that next Wednesday will be the last episode of Call Your Mother," the actress wrote. 

"You guys have been so wonderful to tune in every week, or every other week or every two weeks! The rollout was nuts!"

Indeed, the rollout was not great, with the first five episodes airing without interruption.

The scheduling of the next seven episodes has been all over the place, but it could be attributed to the pandemic, which has changed the way TV is produced.

In this new take on the beloved children’s animated series, “The Powerpuff Girls used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes, [but] now they’re disillusioned twenty-somethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting.” Cameron will star alongside Chloe Bennet’s Blossom, and Yana Perrault’s Buttercup.

NBC’s “Chicago” crossover trio, which consists of the three dramas “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” and “Chicago Pd,” took up the top three slots in Wednesday’s overnight primetime numbers. The fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen+Live Same Day indicate that a new episode of the third installment of executive producer Dick Wolf’s franchise, “Chicago Med,” drew a 1.0 in the adults ages 18-49 key demo and 7.4 million viewers at 8 p.m. The medical drama tied for first place in the key demo with brother series “Chicago Fire,” which ran at 9 p.m. and drew a 1.0 in the key demo and 7.1 million viewers.

Perhaps it’s because the present moment is so unsettled that “Call Your Mother,” ABC’s new sitcom from “The New Adventures of Old Christine” creator Kari Lizer, manages to feel in its pilot episode more comforting than it otherwise might. The series, about an overbearing mom (Kyra Sedgwick) barging in on the lives of her two children (Joey Bragg and Rachel Sennott), hits in its pilot episode — the only one made available to critics — notes that are alternately too familiar or jarring for the wrong reasons. The show has a pleasant warmth, but it seems to have too little of a sense about what within it works to find its footing.

Sedgwick’s Jean Raines, in the first episode’s early going, ditches Iowa in favor of Los Angeles as a way of dropping in on her son Freddie, who hasn’t picked up the phone for her in (gasp) four days.

Kyra Sedgwick is returning to ABC. The network just announced they've ordered a new TV show with the Ten Days in the Valley star called Call Your Mother.

The comedy series, formerly known as My Village, "follows an empty-nester mom who wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought." The cast includes Sedgwick, Rachel Sennott, Joey Bragg, Patrick Brammall, Emma Caymares, and Austin Crute.

Movies traditionally are released in theaters on Wednesdays and Fridays, but come Monday, April 20, “4/20” the movie will be released on Vimeo on the date that’s considered a perennial stoner holiday — it has even greater significance this month seeing as the year is 2020.

Producer Corey Moss, a veteran of MTV and management company Principato-Young, says the film is taking its lead from “Super Troopers 2,” which opened on April 20, 2018, and went on to gross $18.4 million at the U.S. box office. “Whoever picked that release date was brilliant,” he says. “Back then, we jokingly said we should make a weed movie for next year’s 4/20. Then we jokingly said we should call it 4/20. Then we jokingly said it should be like ‘Love Actually’ or the Garry Marshall holiday movies, with multiple storylines that interweave.”

Actually, “4/20” has more in common with Kevin Smith’s stoner classic “Clerks” and Netflix’s series “Disjointed.

Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby), Joey Bragg (Father of the Year), Emma Caymares (Fosse/Verdon) and Austin Crute (Daybreak) are set as series regulars opposite Kyra Sedgwick in My Village, ABC’s multi-camera comedy pilot from The New Adventures of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer, Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios. Veteran multi-camera comedy director Pam Fryman has been tapped to direct the pilot.

Written and executive produced by Lizer, My Village revolves around an empty-nester mom, Jean Raines (Sedgwick), who wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought.

Sennott will play Jackie, Jean’s oldest child. She’s bright, wry and sarcastic, using her wit in place of emotions. She keeps her feelings buttoned up.

Cleopatra Entertainment has obtained the North American distribution rights to Get Gone, a thriller starring Lin Shaye (Insidious franchise), Rico E. Anderson (Apple TV+‘s Truth Be Told), Robert Miano (Girls Trip), Adam Bitterman (Chicago P.D.), and Weston Cage Coppola (Lord of War). Written and directed by first-timer Michael Thomas Daniel, the plot centers on a group of Internet hoax busters on a team-building retreat led by a local outdoor guide (Bitterman). Things quickly go sideways when the hoax team crosses paths with the backwoods Maxwell family who’s currently warring with an invasive drilling company. And once the hoax team’s hidden agenda comes to light, things get much worse. Bailey Coppola, Bradley Stryker, and Emily Shenaut also co-star. Eden Brolin will join Vince Vaughn, Liam Hemsworth, and Clark Duke in Duke’s directorial debut film, Arkansas, which follows a pair of low level drug runners in the Dixie Mafia, Kyle (Hemsworth) and Swin (Duke), who live by the orders of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin Frog (Vaughn). The film, also written by Duke, is set to be presented at the American Film Market, which starts on October 31. Patrick Hibler, Jeff Rice, Martin Sprock, and Storyboard Media are producing. Jd Beaufils and Julie Paquit of Vmi Worldwide will handle sales in conjunction with Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard of Storyboard Media. Teens and their parents have a boatload of issues to deal with these days, and it seems like director Leif Rokesh wants to deal with all of them in “Reach.” Every character represents a superficial snapshot of modern strife in one form or another. Though its heart is in the right place when it comes to many of the boldly-portrayed sentiments, the indie melodrama plays like a hokey, weak after-school special rather than a powerful and alarming wake-up call.

To really delve into Father of the Year would be both a waste of your time and mine. Netflix exclusives are elusive and baffling at best. Seemingly dropping down from the cinematic gods themselves onto our TV screens with little to no fanfare or anticipation. We are far beyond the realm of hit and miss, more so in the age of a constant state of bizarre. The dumping ground of studio productions has only hailed one or two inspiring pieces of cinema, most notably in Alex Garland’s Annihilation, but with each positive success, a Cloverfield: Paradox waits in the winds to pounce upon significant interest with disastrous outcomes. Its the nucleus of Netflix produced content that worries the most.

Reach, an indie drama that takes on the issue of high school bullying from all sides’ perspectives, is headed to theaters in a deal struck with Freestyle Digital Media and Voltaire Media. The pic starring Garrett Clayton and directed by Leif Rokesh had its world premiere last month at the Dances With Films festival.

Voltaire will release Reach in 10 major markets October 19 day-and-date with Freestyle’s release on digital and VOD. October is National Bullying Prevention Month.

Freestyle Digital Media has bought North American digital rights for “Reach,” a high-school drama about bullying from the perspective of the bully, the bullied, and the bystanders.

“Reach” will debut theatrically through Christian Meoli’s Voltaire Media in 10 major markets on Oct. 19 along with a day and date VOD release.

“The serious topic of bullying resonates with so many children and families these days,” said Freestyle Digital Media acquisitions director Rachel Koehler. “With our acquisition of ‘Reach,’ we at Freestyle are proud to be able to contribute to the conversation by giving the topic the exposure it so richly deserves.”

In Netflix’s “Father of the Year,” audiences get to see David Spade’s entire backside, and he said that while he’s not in bad shape, he got some nasty reviews about his rear.

“I’m not in that bad of a shape, I lost some weight,” Spade told Howard Stern on Wednesday. “I get a couple bad Yelp reviews on my a– but overall, it’s not too bad.”

While Spade reveals his “whole ass” in the movie, as Stern says, that’s where he draws the line. The actor told Stern that he would never do full frontal nudity in a film.

Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming original comedy called Father of the Year which stars David Spade. It seems like it's been a while since we've seen him star in a movie, but this one, which was produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions, looks like it could be funny. There were a couple moments in this trailer that made me laugh. Here's the synopsis:

When a drunken debate between two recent college graduates about whose father would win in a fight is taken seriously by their idiot dads, jobs are lost, relationships ruined, futures destroyed, and best friends come of age as they come to grips with who their fathers really are.

The film also stars Nat Faxon (Tammy), Joey Bragg (Liv and Maddie), Matt Shively (The Real O’Neals), and Bridgit Mendler (Nashville).

Father of the Year hits Netflix on July 20th.

Netflix has debuted the trailer for a comedy titled Father of the Year, one of the latest cringe-worthy Happy Madison productions from Adam Sandler's deal with the streaming studio. Surprise surprise, this one looks just as bad. Father of the Year is about two fathers who get into an epic fight of sorts after their college graduate sons challenge them to a showdown. David Spade and Nat Faxon star as the dads, Joey Bragg and Matt Shively star as their kids, and the also includes Bridgit Mendler, Bill Kottkamp, Dean Winters, and Kevin Nealon. This really looks terrible. If you want to watch a better fight movie, Fist Fight is a good choice. And if you want to watch a much better film about a father, Bobcat Goldthwait's World's Greatest Dad is an underrated gem. Just skip this and move on.
