Warner Bros’ Weapons shot to the top of the UK-Ireland box office, holding off the challenge of fellow opener Freakier Friday from Disney.

Weapons started with £2.6m from 630 cinemas at a £4,063 average – a strong start for an 18-rated film. For comparison, Sony horror Bring Her Back – also 18-rated – started with £500,320 the previous weekend.

The delightful "Freakier Friday" is in theaters this weekend, and it's a wonderful reprise for Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, as the two stars of the beloved "Freaky Friday" remake from 2003 return to the body-swapping formula. The movie takes place entirely on various screens, following Ice Cube’s Will Radford (a surveillance expert for the Department of Homeland Security) as he witnesses the alien invasion from his computer. It currently sits at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews. The audience score, with more than a thousand reviews, is a mere 14%.

Many have latched onto a text card in the film’s trailer that reads, “It’S Worse Than You Think” as a sign of the movie’s quality (or lack thereof). The trailer itself, which released in mid-July, became a mini online phenomenon for its bizarre tease of the screenlife adaptation.

I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson season 4 finally gets a promising update more than two years after season 3 hit Netflix. Created by Robinson and Zach Kanin, the comedy series puts Robinson front and center, depicting the comedian in a variety of hilarious and outlandish scenarios.

That’s the subject of this A24 cringe-comedy from debut writer-director Andrew DeYoung, who wrote the script specifically for its star, Tim Robinson, star of the cult Netflix sketch show, I Think You Should Leave. That show specialised in super-awkward characters, and in other hands, Friendship could easily have felt like a comedy sketch stretched out to feature length, but DeYoung and Robinson carry it through, with frequently excruciating results.

Robinson plays Craig Waterman, a socially awkward office worker who has a good job and is married to Tami, a florist and recent cancer survivor. They have a teenage son, Stevie together, but Craig’s attempts to bond with his son are as awkward as his attempts to bond with his male co-workers.

It’s been over two years since Comedy Central premiered Digman! with a promo that aired incessantly on Viacom-owned stations and that, unfortunately, sucked.

This ad was so off-putting that it has taken until, well, basically now to learn that I should have gotten on board with Digman! a long time ago. It’s about a passionate archeologist who’s made recovering historical artifacts his whole life’s purpose, and who’s trying to heal from not-so-secret pain, but is mainly a blowhard idiot. The marketing should have made it much clearer that Digman! would appeal to someone who was basically a one-woman street team for Clone High, all about adolescent duplicates of people like Abraham Lincoln and Cleopatra.

Digman! was created by Andy Samberg, and he also stars as the titular Rip Digman, an architect who goes on adventures to increase his fame. Digman! season 1 proved divisive - earning 57% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and viewers alike - and it now has a new problem.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Digman! season 2 has been delayed to July 23, the same day South Park season 27 is set to premiere. Both Digman! and South Park were originally scheduled to premiere their new seasons on July 9. However, South Park season 27 was delayed due to legal disputes over streaming rights and the upcoming merger of Paramount Global and Skydance.

Right on the heels of South Park’s new season getting rescheduled, another animated comedy is being dealt the same treatment. Deadline reports that Comedy Central has shifted the original premiere date of Andy Samberg’s Digman!Season 2. Two years after its renewal, the adult show was meant to return in just a few days, on July 9, but fans will unfortunately have to wait two weeks longer for their favorite adventurers’ return.

The sophomore season of Digman! is now set to premiere on July 23, similar to South Park, with new episodes airing on Wednesdays at 10:30 Pm. The season two premiere of Andy Samberg’s Digman! is being pushed out two weeks to Wednesday, July 23, just like the season 27 premiere of South Park. Digman! airs in Comedy Central’s 10:30 p.m. time slot, immediately after South Park at 10.

South Park’s season 27 premiere was delayed on Wednesday. The news came amid a streaming-rights battle between the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and the channel’s parent company, Paramount Global.

Parker and Stone are not happy about the delay, and they made that known.

The second season of “Digman!” was slated to debut on July 9, but it will now premiere two weeks later on July 23 at 10:30 p.m. Et/Pt. The move keeps the series in line with the launch of Season 27 of “South Park,” which also recently shifted its premiere date to July 23.

No sign yet that the “Digman!” creators are planning to release a statement to address the move, but “South Park’s” Trey Parker and Matt Stone had plenty to say, particularly regarding the Paramount-Skydance merger. In a statement posted online shortly after the premiere date move was announced, Parker and Stone said, “This merger is a shit show and it’s fucking up ‘South Park.’ We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.

Essentially a lost film, legendary director Charles Burnett’s 1999 feature The Annihilation of Fish mostly lived on the festival circuit (and in bootlegs) for a quarter-century until a recent miraculous restoration by the UCLA Film & Television Archive and The Film Foundation. Despite featuring recognizable leads in James Earl Jones and Lynn Redgrave, one bad review from an influential critic (who seemed strangely wary of the film’s tonal risk-taking) was enough to sink its commercial prospects for potential distributors. A mental-illness romantic comedy of sorts, the film has a strangeness that may be potentially alienating to some, but it seems inexplicable, years later, that a work which so movingly wears its heart on its sleeve...

In perhaps surprising renewal news, Variety reports that Netflix has picked up Bad Thoughts for a second season. The dark comedy is created by and stars comedian Tom Segura. If you haven’t heard about it, that’s okay. The unusual comedy has flown under the radar for most and hasn’t exactly been met with glowing reviews.

Bad Thoughts has been described as a “dark and twisted” exploration of unthinkable fantasies and blends cinematic storytelling with Segura’s warped sense of humor. The show sees Segura take viewers through a series of dreamlike vignettes where the story inevitably unfolds in a hilarious yet disturbing way. The show covers numerous themes and tones with the connection being the dark side of humanity.

One of this year’s funniest comedies, Friendship, is available to rent or purchase on Digital! You can rent the Tim Robinson-led film for $19.99 or buy the feature digitally for $24.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, and other video-on-demand platforms. If physical media is your poison, you can pre-purchase the movie on Blu-ray and DVD at participating retailers. The physical version of Friendship does not have a release date, but A24 should let us know when it’s coming to shelves soon.

Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, the film stars Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) in the story of a suburban dad (Robinson) who becomes hellbent on being BFFs with his charismatic new neighbor (Rudd). In his review, Chris Bumbray wrote that the film is, in addition to being very funny, “surprisingly nuanced about how hard it is to make friends as an adult male.

Forming meaningful platonic relationships can become complicated as we age, and Andrew DeYoung's directorial debut explored this to cringeworthy yet hilarious effect. With the signature humor of Tim Robinson and the always reliable assistance of Paul Rudd, their new A24 film became one of the best-reviewed comedies on Rotten Tomatoes this year and now, if you missed the opportunity to catch the film in theaters, you have the opportunity to experience the second-hand embarrassment from the comfort of your own home.

Friendship is now available on digital platforms to rent for $19.99 or to own for $24.99. Released by A24, the film enjoyed a pretty solid box office run that began as a limited engagement before going wide at the end of May.
