Titles from “Lupin” co-creator François Uzan, former Netflix top exec Erik Barmack, indie multinational Boat Rocker and Brendan Foley, writer of “Cold Courage,” will be pitched on Wednesday and Thursday at Spain’s Conecta Fiction & Entertainment. Noomi Rapace, Justin Kurzel Win Awards at Sitges

Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Icelandic-Swedish-Polish drama “Lamb,” starring Noomi Rapace was awarded best film and actress for Rapace at the 54th edition of Sitges’ International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which wrapped Sunday.

The prizes add to an Originality Prize which the film received when competing at July’s Cannes Un Certain Regard.

“Lamb,” a horror-comedy combo, follows protagonist Maria, played by Rapace, a woman living with her husband in the total loneliness of the Icelandic countryside. According to a Variety review, “creepy-funny-weird-sad ‘Lamb’ proves just how far disbelief can be suspended if you’re in the hands of a director — and a cast, and a SFX/puppetry department — who really commit to the bit.” Lamb is produced by Go to Sheep, Black Spark Film & TV and Madants with New Europe Film Sales and A24 attached.

Alberto Evangelio’s ‘Visitor’ Arrives on Filmax Thriller Slate

Filmax has acquired the Spanish and international rights to a psychological thriller about a woman in the middle of a marital crises who is stalked by an unknown entity on return to her hometown.

Called “Visitor,” the film is the directorial debut of Alberto Evangelio, a producer and director of shorts and branded content, as well as the 13-part Catalan TV series “Sunday Paella.”

Currently in post production, the producer-distributor’s latest pick up will be among the thrillers it is set to show buyers a glimpse of during the Pre-Cannes Screening.

The film stars Iria del Río, from Spanish riot police drama “Antidisturbios,” Miquel Fernández (“Adú”), Jan Cornet (“The Skin I Live In”) and Sandra Cervera, (“Old Bridge’s Secret”).

The feature was made through two fiction and commercials production companies: Beniwood Producciones – which Evangelio cofounded – and Madrid’s Chester Media Producciones as well as The Otherside Films and Barcelona-based Life&Pictures.

Horror Channel announces FrightFest 2012 International Short Film Showcase line-up
Maniacs, monsters, demons, creepy kids, apocalyptic visions, phobias, heavy metal meltdown and snails. That’s just some of the things awaiting people in this year’s wild and eclectic mix of cutting edge short films from the global arena of the fantasy and horror genre at this years London Film4 Frightfest International Short Film Showcase. The ninety-minute film extravaganza is a tasty selection box of Sunday afternoon treats, sponsored once again by Horror Channel, which will kick-off at 1pm on Sunday 26th August.

Mifff 2011 Final Lineup and Schedule Announced
The Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival (Mifff), a three day international showcase of genre films, is thrilled to announce its final lineup and schedule for its third annual event.

The festival is taking place September 16th-18th, 2011 in Seattle, Washington on the campus of Seattle Center. Siff Cinema at McCaw Hall will once again be the center of genre film mania in the Pacific Northwest for filmmakers and fans alike.

Mifff’s third year will debut 5 feature films and over 40 short films from 12 countries across the globe. Over 10 of the films will be North American Premiere’s while there’s 30 films that will be making either their Northwest or Seattle Premiere. Information about the films can be accessed at the Mifff website.

Several filmmakers will be in attendance.

Tickets are available in advance online. An entire festival pass can be purchased for $40. Single day passes for Saturday and Sunday are available at $25 per day.
