Fatima Robinson (“The Color Purple”) and Parris Goebel (“Super Bowl Lvii Halftime Show”) took home top honors at the World Choreography Awards.
The awards were handed out on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Other winners included Tessandra Chavez for her work on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and Jon Boogz for Starz’s “Blindspotting.”
In a statement to Variety, founder and producer Allen Walls said, “I congratulate all of tonight’s nominees and winners. This Awards Show illustrates our intent to highlight the depth of exceptional talent in our industry. In our 14th year, there were over 275 submissions. We are the Oscars of Dance.”
Robinson fused hip-hop, dance, African history, tap, jazz and even Jamaican moves as she crafted the musical numbers in “The Color Purple.” One highlight was “Push da Button” performed by Taraji P. Henson’s Shug Avery. Robinson made sure there were plenty of props including handkerchiefs, scarves and even a cane.
