It was after Atlanta resident Winter went through her own painful breakup with ex-boyfriend Jah King.

Guess what just got beamed up out of picture purgatory? Filmed years ago, long-awaited by fans of Oren (Paranormal Activity) Peli's work, and almost as mysterious as the location its named after, the found footage thriller Area 51 will finally see the light of the silver screen, as Blumhouse has confirmed that Peli's sophomore effort behind the camera will play the weekend of May 15th at participating Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, with a VOD and digital release scheduled for that same day, as well. And teasing the alien-induced scares to come is the just-released first trailer for Area 51.

We learned this morning that Paranormal Activity writer/director Oren Peli’s one and only follow-up film, Area 51, is finally being released in select theaters and VOD next month, and now a trailer for the sci-fi found footage pic has landed online. The story centers on three young conspiracy theorists who attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, only to find horrifying, unimaginable secrets. Peli made this film back in 2008, directly after the success of Paranormal Activity, but it’s been sitting on the shelf ever since. Judging by this trailer, it's not hard to see why the film has sat on the shelf for so long. Even still, it feels like the movie would have had a much better chance of standing out five years ago as opposed to now, when the found footage genre has already been pretty played out. It's odd to think most of...

Remember when the tiny budgeted Paranormal Activity hit theaters in 2007 and was a box office smash? And remember when writer/director Oren Peli made his follow-up film, Area 51? You’d be forgiven for forgetting about the second part, because while Area 51 was shot in 2008, it’s been sitting on the shelf ever since…until now. Yes, Paramount Insurge announced today that Area 51 is finally being released next month, but its theatrical engagement will be severely limited. The sci-fi horror pic will debut exclusively in Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas on Friday, May 15th and will only run through Sunday, May 17th, with one showtime daily.
