Back in 1968, George A. Romero made his feature directorial debut with one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Night of the Living Dead – and while doing so, he also introduced the world to flesh-eating ghouls that became a new definition for the world “zombie.” Romero, who passed away in 2017, went on to make several more zombie movies over the decades… and recently, his daughter Tina Romero revealed that she’s making her own feature directorial debut with a zombie movie called Queens of the Dead. That movie had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last month – and won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Film there! Now, Deadline reports that it has secured North American distribution through Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) and the Shudder streaming service. A specific release date has not yet been announced, but Independent Film Company has let it be known that they...

Having tackled the stigmatization of epilepsy in cinema in the short form with a proof of concept film back in 2020, filmmaker Miles Levin returns to the same space with his feature debut. Re-teaming with actor Pearce Joza, and also working with the same title as the short, Under the Lights is inspired by anyone living or has been witness to the brain disorder which causes seizures, brief lapses of attention and/or convulsions. A film about family and finding a bit of normalcy, the project was backed by Vanishing Angle’s Natalie Metzger. I had the chance to speak to Miles Levin in Wroclaw.…...

Diagnosed with epilepsy, director Miles Levin refused to hide. Instead, he took an “emotional leap” with the upcoming feature “Under the Lights.”
“The best movies come from journal entries you wouldn’t want anyone to read,” he says.
“If you have a story that comes out of you with no risk whatsoever, it’s less likely to be honest. But if it’s something you’d rather hide under your bed… It can be relatable to other people. These are things I’ve never told anyone, but I made a bet they would understand. So far, the answer has been a resounding ‘yes.’”
Awarded at Poland’s American Film Festival, where it picked up four prizes at its industry sidebar U.S. in Progress, Levin’s drama – currently in post-production – focuses on Sam, who doesn’t want to be defined by his affliction. He strives to experience normal teenage life...

A total of seventeen awards were handed out at this year’s American Film Festival’s U.S. in Progress industry showcase, an event focused on connecting American independent film projects with Polish post-production resources. Miles Levin’s drama “Under the Lights” received the coveted Polish Film Institute Award at the American Film Festival’s industry event U.S. in Progress, as well as $50,000 cash prize for post-production in Poland.
“It has been an incredibly rewarding and inspiring project to work on. Miles is a force of nature with a clear vision and relentless drive to bring this story to life,” said Natalie Metzger, VP of production and development at Vanishing Angle.
“I’m so honored to have produced it and for it to be part of U.S. in Progress. There’s nothing like this program in America, so we are very grateful it exists. It’s much needed for American indie filmmakers.”
Levin added: “This film has been a 10-year journey and to have the support of U.S. in Progress to help it shine has been very meaningful.”

The following is the second part of our in-depth interview with filmmaker Josh Ruben. To read part one, you can check it out Here.
While the entire experience was a delight, one thing I distinctly remember from the first time I met Josh Ruben for our interview at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival was his natural exuberance and his genuine excitement over being able to share his directorial debut, Scare Me, with audiences in Park City. That initial passion and enthusiasm never waned once as Ruben continued to chat about the film in the following months online, leading up to Scare Me’s release on Shudder in October 2020, and its eventual home media debut last month.
Of course, none of us attending Sundance last January could have ever anticipated just what was coming down the line in 2020, but Ruben is still hopeful that as Scare Me continues to connect with fans...
