‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Alum Jason Antoon Shares Clip Of Canceled Show’s Vacant Studio Lot
Image
A year after NCIS: Hawai’i ended its three-season run on CBS, the state’s film and TV industry continues to suffer a decline in business.

Jason Antoon, who played cyber intelligence specialist Ernie Malik on the police procedural spin-off, recently shared a video of the series’ vacant and overgrown Hollywood Film Studio, where shows like Lost (2004-’10), Hawaii Five-0 (2010-’20) and Magnum P.I. (2018-’24) also filmed.

“Hawaii Film Studios – Empty and full of weeds,” wrote Antoon, sharing the clip Friday on X.

Hawaii is an expensive location that is harder to fit into continuously trimmed TV budgets, especially in linear TV. Cost was among the factors for CBS’ decision to cancel NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons, despite being the #12 most watched non-sports program on broadcast, averaging 7.8 million linear viewers and 10M multi-platform viewers (Live+35).

After the cancelation last April, Antoon wrote on Instagram, “This business is brutal and makes no sense.

6 broadcast TV cancellations in 2024 we're still salty about
Image
Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

NCIS: Hawaii the Final Season DVD is the last chance to enjoy the show
Image
NCIS: Hawaii Season 3 is now on DVD, so is it worth getting the final year for the spinoff?

Every TV season, there’s one cancellation that elicits a huge backlash and outrage from fans. In 2024, that was easily NCIS: Hawaii, as few could believe CBS canceled the series after three seasons.

Canceling any spinoff of the CBS franchise would be jarring. However, ending NCIS: Hawaii after only three years made no sense. The series was still doing well in the ratings, and the producers were blindsided as they had ended the year on a cliffhanger that was meant to set up a bigger season 4. It was more frustrating given the season had been delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes so not even a full year.

Now, the entire season is on DVD, so is it worth getting for fans?

9 Reasons Why NCIS: Hawai'i's Season 3 Cancelation Was A Mistake
Image
NCIS: Hawai'i's cancelation broke a franchise record, making it the shortest-lived NCIS series ever. Special Agent Jane Tennant was the first female team lead, showcasing a unique and strong character. The loss of the relationship between Lucy Tara and Kate Whistler is a significant setback for the NCIS franchise.

While it's been over a month since the NCIS spinoff show was canceled, buzz continues to surround the cancelation of NCIS: Hawai'i before season 4. The island-based police procedural was a spinoff from the original NCIS show starring Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The flagship NCIS show has seen a lot of success with spinoffs throughout the years, beginning with the launch of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2009. Unfortunately, the cancelation of NCIS: Hawai'i has broken a franchise record, becoming the short-lived NCIS series ever.

The cast of NCIS: Hawai'i included Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills...

A Relationship For 1 NCIS Character Could Make Up For The Franchise's Massive NCIS: Hawai'i Loss
Image
A potential romance for Kasie in NCIS season 22 could fill the gap left by the canceled NCIS: Hawai'i, providing a fresh storyline. Kasie's character brings LGBTQ+ representation to the franchise and her love life is set to play a bigger role in future episodes. LGBTQ+ representation in the NCIS franchise has been lacking, but characters like Kasie can help provide a more inclusive portrayal.

Content Warning: the following article contains discussions of suicide and suicidal ideation

A relationship for one NCIS character could make up for the massive loss of NCIS: Hawai'i. The island-based spinoff was canceled last month just before the season 3 finale, leaving fans with a cliffhanger for Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J), Kai Holman (Alex Tarrant), Ernie Malik (Jason Antoon), and Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami). NCIS: Hawai'i Stars Have Emotional Farewell Reunion Following Season 4 Cancellation
Image
The NCIS: Hawai'i cast has already held a touching reunion. The cast met on a beach at sunset and proclaimed their love for each other and Hawai'i. The reunion comes shortly after CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai'i season 4.

While the story of NCIS: Hawai'i is over, its cast remains as close as ever. The show began in 2021 as an NCIS spin-off and starred Vanessa Lachey as NCIS' first female lead, Jane Tennant. As a procedural, Hawai'i followed a team of Naval Investigators solving crimes in Hawai'i. Unfortunately, CBS canceled the show after season 3, and Lachey has been campaigning for its return ever since.

The NCIS: Hawai'i cast was surprised by the news of the show's cancelation, but that hasn't stopped the team from reuniting to celebrate the show's legacy. Lachey posted a now-expired Instagram story, which TVLine managed to capture, featuring the cast reuniting on a beach at sunset. Check...

NCIS: Hawaiis Cancellation Is A Massive Loss For One Important Aspect Of The Franchise
Image
NCIS: Hawai'i's cancelation is a huge loss for LGBTQ+ representation in primetime TV & for the NCIS franchise as a whole. The relationship between Kate and Lucy in NCIS: Hawai'i added depth & authenticity to LGBTQ+ representation on screen. The absence of positive representation of LGBTQ+ characters in a massive franchise like NCIS is a significant loss for diversity.

The cancelation of NCIS: Hawai'i is a massive loss for one important aspect of the NCIS franchise. The island-themed NCIS spinoff was on air for just three seasons, a short lifespan within a franchise that regularly launches spinoffs that last at least twice that long. While the decision leaves NCIS: Hawai'i characters like Jane Tennant with unfinished storylines, it is also a disappointing development for the franchise's commitment to diversity.

NCIS: Hawai'i first aired on CBS in 2021, and it was the fourth spinoff in the NCIS franchise. Now that NCIS: Hawai'i is...

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’: 3 Major Questions We Still Need Answered After Series Finale

NCIS: Hawai’i left off on quite the cliffhanger in what was meant to just be the Season 3 finale. Instead, it ended up being the series finale, and this comes after a shortened season that set up a few things that could have easily been explored going forward. For instance, a tease about team leader Jane Tennant’s (Vanessa Lachey) and Lucy’s (Yasmine Al-Bustami) and Kate’s (Tori Anderson) conversation about a wedding set up plenty for the agents off the clock. And the final scene involving Jane could have led to anything for the team to deal with. Below, we take a look at the three major questions that might not ever be answered because NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled. What Brings Maggie Back? In the last scene of the series, Jane arrives home to find her former mentor-turned-fugitive, Maggie (Julie White), waiting. She told Jane her daughter was...

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Says Aloha In Series Finale Leaving Fans With Major Cliffhanger
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from the NCIS: Hawai’i series finale.

Following three seasons on the air, NCIS: Hawai’i said goodbye to viewers following a heartbreaking and unexpected cancelation late last month.

The episode titled “Divided We Conquer” is the second-part conclusion of the finale following the April 29 episode “Spill the Tea.” In tonight’s episode, the team finds itself in one of the most dangerous situations of the series when they are exposed to deadly bioweapons by a terrorist group.

Things were very touch and go for many including Sam (LL Cool J) who, though he was exposed to just a tiny bit of the virus, came very close to meeting his maker. A last-minute Hail Mary saved the day and he survived, though he was definitely left worse for wear while recovering.

Although the team didn’t get a proper sendoff, the episode ends...

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Was Canceled Because of ‘Financials and Performance Overall,’ CBS Says
Image
Fans were shocked to hear that “NCIS: Hawai’i,” the newest series in CBS’ “NCIS” franchise, had been canceled after three seasons last week. At a press briefing in Los Angeles, CBS executives said the decision came down to a balance of cost and ratings, as well as cohesion across the network’s 2024-2025 schedule.

“It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters. “Everything came back [from the Hollywood strikes] really strong, but ultimately we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow. We have to evaluate the financials and the performance overall, and we make tough decisions.”

When asked whether there was a chance of un-cancellation, as happened when CBS reversed its decision to end “S.W.A.T.” on two separate occasions, Reisenbach said no.

NCIS: Hawai'i Just Broke An Unwanted Franchise Record
Image
NCIS: Hawai'i's cancellation sets a record as the shortest-lived franchise show, ending after just 3 seasons and 10 episodes. Despite mixed reviews, the Aloha State crime drama continues to follow the NCIS formula with a dedicated team led by Special Agent Jane Tennant. CBS decision to cancel NCIS: Hawai'i after season 3 remains a mystery, leaving fans disappointed and questioning the network's motives.

Before NCIS: Hawai'i's season 3 finale, CBS decided to cancel the series. As a result, the Aloha State-set police procedural has set a new NCIS franchise record. Much like its parent series, NCIS: Hawai'i follows a fictional team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents. Led by Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), the team operates out of the Pearl Harbor Field Office, often tackling investigations that relate to national security. The fourth series in the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Hawai'i was co-created by Christopher Silber, who also executive produced the 7-season NCIS: New Orleans.

Did ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Just Kill Off 3 Agents Ahead of Series Finale? (Recap)
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 Episode 9 “Spill the Tea.”] Compound X is no joke, as an entire team learns by the end of the first part of the NCIS: Hawai’i series finale. Sam’s (LL Cool J) read Jane (Vanessa Lachey) in about the Elite team when he had her interrogate the Chemist. Ernie (Jason Antoon) found out about it when Sam had him look at an encrypted laptop and he found that when Elite accessed it, their system had been compromised. And now, Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) may or may not have dislocated one of the Elite agents’ shoulders when he tells her to get in a van; inside already are Jesse (Noah Mills) and Kai (Alex Tarrant). They’re taken, blindfolded, to Elite’s secret holding facility, where they’re told the Chemist was found murdered that morning. Swift (Henry Ian Cusick) has been the one interrogating him, but fortunately,...

Why I'm Disappointed NCIS: Hawai'i Was Canceled Before Season 4
Image
CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai'i after season 3, assumingly due to production costs, ratings, and competition within the NCIS franchise. The show ending prematurely will not provide fans with the closure they deserve. NCIS: Hawai'i offered a distinctive perspective as the first series in the franchise solely led by a female character and intriguing cases in a unique setting.

NCIS: Hawai'i will end following its season 3 finale, and its cancelation is upsetting due to several factors. The CBS police procedural television series, created by Christopher Silber, Jan Nash, and Matt Bosack, is the fourth installment in the NCIS franchise and the third NCIS spin-off overall. As the title suggests, the show takes place in Hawai'i, and it follows the Pearl Harbor Field Office branch of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey. Unfortunately, NCIS: Hawai'i's story was seemingly not meant to...

NCIS: Hawaii Season 4 Not Happening As CBS Cancels Spinoff
Image
CBS cancels NCIS: Hawai'i while season 3 is still airing. The series finale of the show will premiere on May 6. The NCIS franchise will still go on strong with the original show, two spinoffs, and a prequel still set to air.

NCIS: Hawai'i will be going off the air. The CBS show, which is currently airing season 3, was the third spinoff of the long-running procedural crime drama NCIS, which itself was a spinoff of Jag. Following the Pearl Harbor Field Office of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the show starred an ensemble cast that included Vanessa Lachey, Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson, and Kian Talan. Season 3 had a reduced count of 10 episodes, as production began late in the wake of the resolution of the 2023 writer and actor strikes.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has officially cancelled the show and will not be moving forward with NCIS: Hawai'i...

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Canceled By CBS: Franchise’s First Female-Led Series Ending After 3 Seasons
Image
It came down to the wire, but NCIS: Hawai’i ultimately didn’t make the cut for next season at CBS. The news comes days before the network is set to announce its fall schedule on May 2 and before the Season 3 finale of Hawai’i is scheduled to air on May 6. According to sources, the episode was not meant to be a series finale and includes a tease for what was to come but fans won’t be left reeling by a major cliffhanger.

The cancellation is not a complete shocker since, as Deadline has been reporting, NCIS: Hawai’i was on the bubble. Still, the outcome is surprising since an effort was made to extend the well performing drama’s run for at least an abbreviated fourth and final season, with producers agreeing to a massive budget cut and open to other concessions in order to keep the show going.

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Canceled at CBS After Three Seasons
Image
CBS is shutting down one of its NCIS field offices.

The network has canceled NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons. The show’s season — and now series — finale is set to air on May 6.

The series, which stars Vanessa Lachey and added former NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J to its cast this season, will likely end up as the most watched show to be canceled this season — topping two other canceled CBS shows, CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. NCIS: Hawai’i is averaging about 7.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day linear ratings this season, and it hits 10 million viewers over 35 days of cross-platform viewing.

Those numbers would make for easy renewals most anyplace else, but they put NCIS: Hawai’i only in the middle of the pack at CBS. The network will also introduce a new NCIS series in the 2024-25 season, a prequel subtitled Origins that follows a...

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Canceled After Three Seasons at CBS
Image
“NCIS: Hawai’i” has been canceled at CBS.

The “NCIS” spinoff is currently airing its third season at the broadcast network. The season finale scheduled to air on May 6 will now serve as the series finale.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” was the fourth series in the “NCIS” franchise and is now the third series to end. Both “NCIS: New Orleans” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended in the past few years after seven and 14 seasons respectively.

That is not to say the franchise is not still going strong. The mothership series was renewed at the beginning of April. CBS is also prepping a prequel series about a young Jethro Leroy Gibbs, while Paramount+ is readying a spinoff that will see the returns of both Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly. Paramount+ and CBS also air “NCIS: Sydney,” which was renewed for a second season in March.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” was also the last scripted series...
