Grey's Anatomy Reveals 6 Actors In Danger of Leaving 2025 Show
Image
Grey's Anatomy Season 21's emotional finale has fans wondering which actors and their characters could be leaving after a massive explosion hit Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The finale episode of ABC's long-running medical drama was full of twists and turns as Grey Sloan had to endure a hostage situation inside an operation after an unstable mother placed the lives of Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Dr. Lucas Adams (Niko Terho), and Dr. Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) in danger.

After tense negotiations and an intervention from Dr. Meredith Grey, the hostage taker eventually surrendered after making sure that her daughter was safe. However, another curveball in the finale was revealed after the suspect's wife pointed out that the tank full of gas that was used for the hostage situation might've been leaking all this time. This means that the leak could cause an explosion that could put more lives in harm's way.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Delivers Explosive Season 21 Finale Cliffhanger: Meg Marinis On Lives In Danger, Couples At Crossroads, New Cast Addition & More
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 21 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “How Do I Live.”

In a signature fashion, the Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 finale put the doctors at Grey Sloan through the wringer.

First, Jenna (Piper Perabo), the distraught mother of 9-year-old Dylan, resorted to extreme measures to try to save her daughter who continued to deteriorate following her brain surgery. Not willing to sit and wait as Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) advised her, Jenna took things into her own hands.

Using a tank with explosive gas from her husband’s work supply as a weapon, she forced Amelia to operate on her daughter to try and fix what didn’t work the first time. Amelia had to go lo-tech, relying on a magnifying glass and her instincts — with Lucas’ (Niko Terho) help — to perform the highly risky surgery. She was eventually joined by Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) for a...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Boss Breaks Down That Explosive Season 21 Finale Cliffhanger, Meredith’s Surprising Decision
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 21, Episode 18.

“Grey’s Anatomy” ended Season 21 with a heart-stopping finale cliffhanger, leaving the fates of a good chunk of the Grey Sloan doctors hanging in the balance.

Episode 18, titled “How Do I Live,” followed the aftermath of Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Link’s (Chris Carmack) wedding. Tensions rose significantly after Jenna (Piper Perabo), the mother of a young patient of Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone), sequestered her, Simone (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas (Niko Terho) in an Or and forced her to operate on her daughter while threatening to blow it up with a gas tank.

The hostage situation caught the attention of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) — who was in the premises with the intention of selling off her shares of the hospital to fund her burgeoning Alzheimer’s research. In typical Meredith fashion, she ended up in the Or herself and helped diffuse the...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Showrunner Meg Marinis Confirms Your Fears After That Explosive Cliffhanger Finale
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season 21 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “How Do I Live.”]

Grey’s Anatomy warned viewers that an explosive finale was coming.

Heading into the season 21 ender, “How Do I Live,” that aired on Thursday night, the ABC medical drama’s official social media account posted two throwback photos of the memorable two-part finale back in season two (“It’s the End of the World” and “As We Know It”). That tense bomb-in-a-body-cavity episode saw Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) with guest stars Christina Ricci and Kyle Chandler trying to keep a bomb lodged in a patients’ chest from exploding.

“Same vibe,” wrote the ABC account.

This time, instead of a bomb, the mother (guest star Piper Perabo) of a child patient who had gone unresponsive after brain surgery brings a highly flammable acetylene tank into the operating room and forces Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to perform a high-risk surgery to save her daughter. Interns Simone (Alexis Floyd...

Piper Perabo Gets Desperate & Dangerous in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Finale Sneak Peek
Image
It wouldn’t be a Grey’s Anatomy finale without our favorite on-screen surgeons being in some serious danger, and this time, it looks like the threat is going to come from a very, very surprising place. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek at the Season 21 closer, “How Do I Live,” Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) wheels 9-year-old neurosurgery patient Dylan (Sophia Kopera) into the operating room for a corrective surgery — presumably, to repair what went wrong from her angioma removal and caused her to experience locked-in syndrome. Only, Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) isn’t happy to see him or the child because something else entirely is going on. Standing behind her are scrub nurse BokHee (Kathy C. An) and anesthesiologist Dr. Knox (Payton Silver), and standing in front of her is Jenna Gaitlin (Piper Perabo), Dylan’s mother who’s holding Simone Griffiths (Alexis Floyd) hostage with a huge canister...

Grey’s Anatomy’s Lucas and Simone Are Done: Is Anybody Sorry?
Image
No one is more surprised than I am to find myself saying — well, typing — that I am glad Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy finally broke up Lucas and Simone. (Read the full recap.) Am I alone in feeling that way?

Maybe I should have spotted the warning signs ages ago. Even back in Season 19, when Lucas suggested that Simone’s fiancé didn’t see all of her, but “I see you, and I love every single thing I see,” the red flags were there. I was so busy fanning myself — Niko Terho and Alexis Floyd can have great chemistry...

Grey's Anatomy's Future Revealed at ABC Ahead of Season 21 Finale
Image
Grey's Anatomy is currently over halfway through Season 21. Ahead of the finale, which will be on May 15, ABC has revealed the medical drama's fate.

Grey's Anatomy is one of the longest-running shows on air, having premiered in 2005. However, it looks like the medical drama is not stopping anytime soon. Per Variety, ABC has renewed Grey's Anatomy for Season 22 during a massive renewal for some of its hit series, alongside 9-1-1, The Rookie, Will Trent, and Shifting Gears.

Grey's Anatomy follows the personal and professional lives of the interns, residents, and attendings at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital, which was later renamed as Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The series is the longest-running scripted primetime show on ABC. For over 19 seasons, the series followed Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey as the central character, until she stepped down as a series regular and started making recurring appearances.

Grey's Anatomy has just celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

'Grey's Anatomy's Fate Decided at ABC As Season 21 Heats Up
Image
All doctors on Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will remain on call for the next year. In a move that surprised no one, ABC decided to renew Grey's Anatomy for another season. The long-running medical series will extend until Season 22, which will air in the 2025-2026 season. The network has yet to announce if all regular cast members are returning for the new season, but showrunner Meg Marinis has hinted that former protagonist Ellen Pompeo (Good American Family) is expected to return for some episodes.

The renewal should come as no surprise — Grey's Anatomy keeps topping the charts to this day. Not only does the show remain among the most-watched titles on network television, but it is also a hit on streaming platforms. Just last year, the series was the most-streamed drama title across all streaming platforms. The series is still the go-to title for subscribers who feel like binge-watching a long TV series,...

‘9-1-1,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘The Rookie,’ ‘Shifting Gears,’ ‘Will Trent’ Renewed at ABC
Image
ABC is renewing four dramas and one comedy series, Variety has learned.

The Disney-owned broadcaster has picked up new seasons of “9-1-1,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Rookie,” and “Will Trent” as well as “Shifting Gears.” The renewals will bring “9-1-1” to Season 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” to Season 22, “The Rookie” to Season 8, “Shifting Gears” to Season 2, and “Will Trent” to Season 4.

ABC had previously announced renewals for both “High Potential” and the hit comedy “Abbott Elementary.” That means that the only current ABC show still awaiting word on a renewal is “Doctor Odyssey.” ABC has opted not to order any pilots this season, but did order the “9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Nashville” straight-to-series, with Chris O’Donnell set for a lead role.

Of today’s renewals, only “Shifting Gears” was seen as a toss up for a new season. The Tim Allen-Kat Dennings multi-cam suffered a noticeable drop off in the ratings since its January debut.

'I Have Zero Endings:' Grey's Anatomy Creator Doesn't Know How the Series Will End
Image
Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes recently opened up about the potential conclusion of ABC’s longest-running medical drama. Even though she’s no longer the drama’s showrunner, Rhimes has continued to be an integral part of the series as an executive producer.

When asked about her possible plans for the ending of Grey’s Anatomy during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rhimes admitted that she stopped thinking about the show’s conclusion after Season 8. At the moment, she doesn’t have any idea about how the medical drama will end. "I have zero endings for Grey's now. I mean, literally zero. Until Season 8, I still had endings," she shared. "And by the way, I felt like I ended the series several times. I was like, ‘This could be the finale, this could be it,’ but it wasn't. Ellen Pompeo reveals why this Grey's Anatomy sex scene was a 'nightmare'
Image
Ellen Pompeo will always be connected to Grey's Anatomy. She may no longer spearhead every episode, but she still provides narration and serves as an executive producer. Since she has been involved with the show for so long, however, Pompeo has been able to speak more frankly about her experiences making it.

This was incredibly evident during the actress' recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Pompeo was asked which Grey's Anatomy sex scene was the most uncomfortable to shoot, and she did not hesitate when it came to her answer. Pompeo deemed the sex scene between her character and George (T.R. Knight) in the season 2 was so bad she couldn't bring herself to watch it.

Pompeo was forced to shoot a sex scene twice

The actress clarified that her scene partner was not to blame. "T.R. and I are such good friends," she assured host Alex Cooper.

Grey’s Anatomy season 21 episode 10 recap: Meredith returns and one doctor is not happy about it
Image
After a few weeks away from Grey Sloan, Grey’s Anatomy season 21 episode 10 welcomed Ellen Pompeo back as Meredith Grey and, while fans might have been excited to see her back, her return to the hospital wasn’t exactly met with a warm welcome.

As the episode opens, Meredith and Nick head back to Seattle and it’s clear things are still tense between Mer and Richard after she kept him in the dark about Catherine’s diagnosis. Mer and Nick arrive at the hospital where they meet Catherine and their patient Tasha, who is in need of a liver transplant, as well as her wife, Evynn, a fellow surgeon. As they’re discussing the diagnosis, Richard comes in and you can cut the tension between him and Meredith from the moment he enters the room.

Following their meeting with Tasha and Evynn, Richard gets short with Meredith and begins...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Adelaide Kane Says Jules Is ‘in a State of Shock’ After Mika’s Exit

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 21, Episode 9.

“Grey’s Anatomy” returned with some big moments, a bonkers case and more than a few emotionally scarred doctors.

The midseason premiere, titled “Hit the Floor,” resolved many big cliffhangers for the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial, who we had last seen dealing with a record-breaking heat wave in Seattle in the aftermath of Dr. Mika Yasuda’s heartbreaking exit.

Dr. Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) was impacted the most by her fellow doctor’s departure from the hospital, as the pair had been exploring a blossoming romantic relationship up until Mika’s sister showed up asking for help with a cancer diagnosis — which resulted in her dying in a car accident and Mika leaving Seattle so she could heal from the grief away from where all fell apart.

Derek's Devastating Death in 'Grey's Anatomy', Explained
Image
Grey's Anatomy has been going for almost two decades. The 21 seasons and nearly 450 episodes have introduced viewers to plenty of characters, but few have been as popular with fans as Dr. Derek Shepherd, who's been affectionately referred to as "McDreamy." Derek is a neurosurgeon who works at the same hospital as the main character, Meredith Grey, and even had a relationship and kids with her. Patrick Dempsey won over audiences' hearts as Derek Shepherd, and even received the honor of People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2023 after showing so much charisma in Grey's Anatomy.

The show controversially killed Derek Shepherd in episode 21 of season 11, titled "How to Save a Life." The episode is one of the lowest-rated episodes on IMDb, with a user rating of 5.6/10 with more than 3,000 reviews, mostly annoyed with how Derek was killed in the episode. However, McDreamy's death was a necessity, especially with situations in the background of the show's production.

Already this season has seen the departures of Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) and Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis). As the show takes a break before returning in the spring, there's a question of who else might depart and these eight characters all have a sad chance of no longer being on Grey's next season

Fan-Favorite Grey’s Anatomy Star Discusses Possible Return 7 Years Later
Image
Grey's Anatomy has seen many characters come and go during the course of its run, and among those who haven't been seen in a while is Martin Henderson's Dr. Nathan Riggs. Over seven years later, the actor has confirmed that he's open to the idea of returning as his fan-favorite character.

While speaking with Deadline to promote his series Virgin River, Henderson was asked about the possibility of returning to Grey's Anatomy. He teased that a return is possible, feeling that Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes would be supportive of a return of Dr. Riggs. It all comes down to scheduling, as Henderson is keeping pretty busy with his post-Grey's work.

Midori Francis On Her ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Exit, The Scene That Made Her Break Character & If She Would Come Back
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Season 21 Episode 8, Drop It Like It’s Hot.

After Grey’s Anatomy bid farewell to Jake Borelli’s Levi Schmitt last week, it was Midori Francis’ turn to say goodbye to the show. Her exit was one of several major storylines in a jam-packed fall finale that left multiple lives in limbo.

Set more than six months after the events in the previous episode, the finale chronicles Mika’s (Francis) first day back after the van accident which left her fighting for her life, with her younger sister Chloe ultimately dying. Mika is not herself all day, evoking her late sister anywhere she goes, including the room Chloe died in and the morgue.

Mika then becomes hysterical when a male patient starts coding, screaming at Bailey (Chandra Wilson) “He’s dying”, “you can’t just let him die like that,” before abruptly switching to “you have to save her,...

How ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Said Farewell to Midori Francis’ Intern
Image
[This story contains spoilers from Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode eight, “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”]

Grey’s Anatomy had said farewell to another series regular.

Midori Francis’ surgical intern Mika Yasuda scrubbed in to Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for the last time on Thursday, after joining the show at the start of season 19.

The eighth episode of season 21 — also the fall finale of the hit ABC medical drama, which returns March 6, 2025 — picked up after Jake Borelli’s Dr. Levi Schmitt also departed Grey’s Anatomy. Yasuda’s younger sister, Chloe (Julia Rose Gruenberg), tragically died after a horrible car accident when Yasuda fell asleep at the wheel after pulling an all-nighter at the hospital. The combination of Chloe’s wounds from the accident and the impact of chemo on her body from treating her cancer proved to be fatal, and Chloe died from her injuries.

At the start of this week’s episode,...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Bids Farewell To Levi As Mika Faces Uncertainty & Tragedy
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episode 2107 of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, “If You Leave”

As ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is approaching its fall finale, so are the tenures of cast members Jake Borelli, who has played Levi Schmitt since 2017, and Midori Francis, in her third season as Mika Yasuda. Their exits could not be more contrasting, with Levi leaving Seattle to pursue his dream career in pediatrics while Mika got into a horrible car accident with her sister. Here is how Grey’s Anatomy wrote off Levi in “If You Leave” and geared Mika’s story for conclusion, expected in the next episode.

(You can read Borelli’s exit interview with Deadline about Levi’s final episode, his eight-season journey on Grey’s and what’s next here.)

And just like that, merely hours after Levi chose a peds research position in Texas over Bailey’s Webber general surgeon attending offer,...

10 TV Shows That Will Probably Never Be Canceled
Image
It is certainly not uncommon for TV shows to be canceled after just a handful of seasons. Of course, this can happen for any number of reasons. Some shows are driven off the air by poor ratings. Others simply reach a satisfying conclusion, leaving no need for the program to continue any further. Even more shows fall victim to issues unrelated to the actual content, such as financial restrictions, problems with the cast, or even the reality that the network may just want to make room for new programming.

On the other hand, some TV shows feel as though they will last until the end of time. While this is much rarer, these series possess a level of timelessness that makes them bound to keep churning out new episodes year after year. Explanations for this immunity from cancelation can range all the way from the complexity of its stories and...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Tackles Voter Responsibility in Last Episode Before 2024 Election
Image
“Grey’s Anatomy” added a storyline about voter responsibility into its latest episode, highlighting the importance of participating in democracy less than two weeks before the 2024 presidential election.

Episode 5 of the ABC medical drama, titled “You Make My Heart Explode,” saw as the latest class of interns debated the topic as they juggled a complicated case involving a hospital employee. Though the show is no stranger to addressing hot-button issues in its storylines, “Grey’s” pulled off the voting message for its viewers without going full PSA — and without getting into details about this year’s race.

The episode kicked off with the interns commiserating about long work hours, as they have all been filling in for Mika (Midori Francis) while she tends to her sick sister. As they made it tot he hospital entrance, they walked by voter registration drive and most of them said they were already registered to vote,...

'Mean and Unjust': Grey's Anatomy Star Comments on Unceremonious Firing
Image
The long-running series Grey's Anatomy has had many casting shakeups over the years, and some actors have been cut loose from the series long before they were ready to say goodbye. That applies to April Kepner actor Sarah Drew, who can still recall how it seemed "unjust" when she was fired without warning from her role in the series back in 2018.

Per TVLine, Drew opened up on her Grey's Anatomy exit during an interview for the Call It What It Is podcast, which is hosted by former cast mates Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington. At the time of her firing six years ago, Drew made a comment that compared getting fired from the series to "attending [my] own funeral," and it was given a significant amount of attention in the media. Drew now clarifies that it was the "outpouring of love" from those offering support that made the experience feel like...

Grey's Anatomy season 21, episode 3 recap and review: "I Can See Clearly Now"

Catherine Fox did not want Webber to know about her medical issues. Well, that became impossible to hide in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 3.

Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 3.

Meanwhile, Nick performed a game-changing surgery, Simone and Lucas struggled to see eye to eye, and Amelia is starting to become very much like her brother.

10 TV Characters Who Randomly Disappeared, From Grey's Anatomy To That '70s Show
Image
Many TV shows have had interesting characters who randomly disappeared without any or very little explanation. While there may have been a behind-the-scenes explanation for this, it wasnt often voiced by production, which left audiences confused as to where their favorite characters went. Even the best TV shows of all time have been guilty of this before, which only made the situation even more frustrating.

Sometimes, the departure of a character was necessary. If a certain plotline advanced and the characters stories moved on to something new, there was frequently a need to reevaluate the importance of another figure. While this was annoying, it was worse elsewhere, and some shows aired TV exits that were totally out of character or made no sense whatsoever. Regardless of the reason, these puzzling disappearances from TV shows were incredibly noticeable.
