National Junior Athletics: Devadiga, Ancy win u-20 200m races
Image
Guwahati, Feb 10 (Ians) Abhin Bhaskar Devadiga of Karnataka and Ancy Sojan of Kerala turned in smart running on the bend to claim the under-20 men and women's 200m crowns respectively on the final day of the 36th National Junior Athletics Championships at the Sarusajai Stadium here on Wednesday.

While Abhin Devadiga, a student from Udupi district, added the gold in 21.34 seconds to the title he won a fortnight ago in the Federation Cup Junior under-20 Athletics Championships in Bhopal, Thrissur district's Ancy Sojan denied Delhi runner Taranjeet Kaur the joy of completing the sprint double the second time in as many meets with a victory 24.51 seconds.

A lot of attention was focused on Tamil Nadu triple jumper Praveen Chithravel. He won by a comfortable margin by scripting the four best efforts at the pit today but he was a good 19cm short of the 16.01m mark that he managed a fortnight ago.

Danielle Moné Truitt at an event for 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards (2020)
‘Deputy’: Danielle Moné Truitt Joins New Fox Series As Regular In Cast Change
Danielle Moné Truitt at an event for 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards (2020)
Exclusive: Danielle Moné Truitt (Snowfall) is set as a series regular on the upcoming Fox series Deputy, starring Stephen Dorff, from Entertainment One and Fox Entertainment.

Truitt will play a new character, Deputy Charlie Minnick. Charlie takes the place of Deputy Rachel Quinn, who was introduced in the pilot. Siena Goines, who played Rachel, has departed.

Written by Beall and directed by David Ayer, Deputy is a cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern attitude and gritty authenticity. When the Los Angeles County Sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West thrusts the most unlikely man into the job: a fifth-generation lawman (Dorff) who’s more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics. He leads a skilled team of ambitious and complicated human beings who won’t rest until justice is served.

Truitt’s Deputy Charlie Minnick...

‘Deputy’: Bex Taylor-Klaus Joins Fox Drama Pilot In Recasting
Exclusive: Fox’s drama pilot Deputy is recasting one of the female leads opposite star Stephen Dorff. Bex Taylor-Klaus has been cast as Deputy Breanna Bishop opposite in the pilot from David Ayer, Will Beall and eOne. She replaces Jasmine Kaur, who originally was cast in the role.

As often is the case, the decision was made after the pilot’s table read when producers decided to take the character in a different direction. That led to the recasting of Kaur with Taylor-Klaus, who identifies as gender non-binary. Such changes are a normal part of the creative process and is why the networks still do pilots.

Written by Beall and directed by Ayer, Deputy centers on Deputy Bill Hollister (Dorff), a career lawman who’s very comfortable kicking down doors and utterly lost in a staff meeting. But when the L.A. County sheriff drops dead, Bill becomes acting sheriff,...

You Probably Don't Remember This Relationship Bombshell From Insecure's Season 2 Finale
Amanda Seales
Insecure has exposed its fair share of failed relationships and single struggles, but behind all the ho-tation hookups, ex regrets, and even Kelli's epic diner scene, there's always been that one "stable" couple throughout the series: Tiffany (Amanda Seales) and Derek (Wade Allain-Marcus). It seems like Tiffany will take any opportunity to let her friends know she's in a happy relationship. She boasts her blow-job capabilities, throws an over-the-top dinner party for Derek's birthday, and doesn't stop talking about how much she loves her man - we get it, honey! But it's time to look beyond the facade and discuss what we think is really going on between the "strongest" couple on the show.

While we know that there was some sort of indiscretion between them (they reference it throughout the series), Tiffany never shares the exact details with her friends. She accidentally tells the girls that she let Derek...

‘Insecure’ Issa and Lawrence Tie Up Loose Ends in Season 2 Finale
Issa Rae in Insecure (2016)
Is this what closure looks like? After last week's epic confrontation, Issa (Issa Rae) and Lawrence (Jay Ellis) have a candid and emotional talk on Sunday’s season two finale of Insecure.

The 45-minute episode, which was expanded for the big finale, shows the same 30 days from the perspectives of Lawrence, Molly, and Issa, and viewers finally get to see just how much the exes lives are still intertwined.

Although Lawrence hasn’t been dating Aparna (Jasmine Kaur) very long, the romance is already showing signs of distress after he learns that she and their co-worker, Colin, had a sexual relationship.

What’s more, Lawrence can’t stop being reminded of Issa. Besides seeing Molly during dinner with Aparna, he spots his ex, and her bestie, in a crowd while running a marathon with his new flame.

Ender's Game Plummets on Second Weekend in North America: Sequel Chances?
‘Ender’s Game’ movie to go the way of ‘John Carter,’ ‘The Golden Compass’? (Photo: Ben Kingsley and Asa Butterfield in ‘Ender’s Game’) Directed by Gavin Hood and starring Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford, Ender’s Game is going the way of Andrew Stanton’s John Carter and Chris Weitz’s The Golden Compass at the domestic box office. After opening with a disappointing $27.01 million last weekend (including Thursday evening shows), the $110 million-budgeted was down a whopping 62% this past weekend, November 8-10, 2013, collecting a paltry $10.25 million from 3,407 theaters (no reduction in number of venues) according to box office actuals found at Box Office Mojo. One can blame Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, but the action fantasy starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston wasn’t the sole culprit. After all, Ender’s Game was already trailing both Last Vegas and Bad Grandpa last Thursday. After two weekends,...

Despite Controversy Surrounding Anti-Gay Author Card, Ender's Game to Top Domestic Box Office - But Are Sequels Likely?
‘Ender’s Game’ movie box office: Adaptation of sci-fi novel by controversial anti-gay author Orson Scott Card tops (modest) domestic box office chart — but will that be enough to spawn a film franchise? (Photo: Asa Butterfield in ‘Ender’s Game’) Written and directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Best Foreign Language Film Oscar winner Tsotsi), and featuring Asa Butterfield (the star in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo), Best Actor Oscar nominee Harrison Ford (Witness), Best Actor Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis (Doubt, The Help), and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominees Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), the futuristic adventure drama Ender’s Game will easily top the North American box office chart this weekend, November 1-3, 2013. The Summit Entertainment / Lionsgate Pictures release is based on the 1985 novel (itself based on a 1977 short story/novella) by Orson Scott Card, an outspoken author...

Review of Ender's Game Film Adaptation: As Complex as Allowed in Today's Hollywood (Not Exactly a Compliment)
‘Ender’s Game’ movie review: Sci-fier displays ‘steel-grey self-seriousness,’ but fails to explore ‘disturbing brutality’ at its core (photo: Asa Butterfield and Abigail Breslin in ‘Ender’s Game’) Orson Scott Card’s sci-fi novel Ender’s Game was published in 1985, and in the 28 years that elapsed before the book became a film, the idea of children trained to fight by orders of an unfeeling government has been repeatedly co-opted, most notably by a certain tale of a beautiful young archer named Katniss. Indeed, comparisons between Ender’s Game and The Hunger Games are inevitable, but the key similarity between the two is that neither film really explores or, in the case of The Hunger Games, even acknowledges the disturbing brutality that lies at the core of their intricately-constructed worlds. To its credit, Ender’s Game, under the clean, straightforward direction of Gavin Hood (one of the X-Men movies, it’s...
