Boldly going where they fit right in, the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds beamed down to San Diego for Comic-Con International last week for a marathon session of press appearances, a show panel, and tons of fan love. Riding high on the reaction to their killer murder-mystery episode, the crew stopped by the TV Insider Studio and was game for a round of hard-hitting questions. The topics ranged from those about playing outside of the box to who ‘ships who, and how they’re bringing the wonderfully creative prequel series — which will be ending with Season 5 — in for a landing that properly sets the stage for the original Trek. “That is our Job 1 of the last season, to get us right up to Kirk’s first day in the chair,” says executive producer Akiva Goldsman, who joined co-ep Henry Alonso Meyers and cast members Paul Wesley, Christina Chong,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Episode 4 “A Space Adventure Hour.”] The latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is, in a word, fun. But such is the case for pretty much every episode of this Paramount+ series, which, since it premiered in 2022, has been one of the most entertaining shows on television. But with “A Space Adventure Hour,” Strange New Worlds goes so meta, with a low-budget knock-off Star Trek series within the episode, which introduces a prototype of the holodeck. La’an (Christina Chong) is tasked with testing it out, and she has Scotty (Martin Quinn) create a simulation based on a detective series, Amelia Moon. In it, La’an is the detective, while Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, Melissa Navia, Jess Bush, and Paul Wesley all play characters, crew members, executive producers, and the like from the aforementioned TV show, The Last Frontier.

Since “The Next Generation” first powered up the holodeck, “Star Trek” episodes have been able to use the fabled sci-fi device to create whatever environment someone can program. The conceit — thanks to replicator technology, holograms, and the suspension of disbelief — has given us a pipe-smoking Data playing Sherlock Holmes, Capt. Janeway starting a morally complex relationship with an Irish barman, and the creation of Vic Fontaine and his nightclub on Deep Space Nine.
Starfleet is in the early stages of developing the holodeck in the time of “Strange New Worlds,” and Season 3’s “A Space Adventure Hour” has the USS Enterprise beta testing the technology. The episode follows holodeck episode tradition, and in it, we see the cast take on new characters, new costumes, and more than a few wigs.
Anson Mount’s Capt. Pike tasks Christina Chong’s La’an to run the nascent program through the wringer to see how it holds up.

One of the true delights of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 3 is the fourth episode, streaming this Thursday, July 31, on Paramount+. Titled “A Space Adventure Hour,” it centers on La’an in the new holodeck now installed aboard the USS Enterprise. The program she runs is a murder mystery set in the late 1960s among the cast of a TV show that… looks very, very familiar.
On this ’60s show, Paul Wesley plays the captain of a starship who likes to show some skin and chew the scenery, every one of his line readings taking on galactic import. Sound familiar? Take a look at a clip of Wesley sinking his teeth deeply into one bit of dialogue while surrounded by pop art colors, papier-mache props, and beehive hairdos below.
This is one of the great examples of “Star Trek” having fun with its history, and poking some light fun at William Shatner.

Earlier this year, Star Trek fans got the disappointing news that Strange New Worlds would be ending after a truncated fifth season. The news was almost worse, but for the creative team behind the show, a promise made was a debt unpaid, and they worked to bring the series to a satisfying conclusion. They discussed the show's final season with Collider's Steve Weintraub at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con.
Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman explained how the six-episode fifth season — which is four episodes shorter than a standard Paramount+ Star Trek season — was a compromise with the network. "The original messaging from the studio as we were done, they wanted us to be done after 4." He went on to add:
"We had made a commitment to the fan base, and to the narrative, that we would get right up against Tos [The Original Series], like we’d about it, because there are a lot...

Actor Paul Wesley may be best known for The Vampire Diaries, but since the first season of Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the actor has taken on the role of James T. Kirk. On Strange New Worlds, Wesley’s Kirk isn’t yet the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise (that seat belongs to Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike).
However, if series showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers would love nothing more than to chronicle Captain Kirk’s first year in the center seat of the Enterprise. The pair, along with executive producer Alex Kurtzman, appeared on a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday and after, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the team wants to continue Kirk’s journey in a spinoff series.

Security alert! This article contains spoilers for season 3, episode 3 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
There are a whole bunch of amazing legacy characters on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," ranging from Ethan Peck's take on the half-human, half-Vulcan Spock to Jess Bush's bubbly but brilliant Nurse Chapel, and that can make it a little tricky for the characters who are new to the franchise. It's a shame, too, because one of the very best characters in "Strange New Worlds" is also the most overlooked: Melissa Navia's Lieutenant Erica Ortegas. The helmsman of the U.S.S. Enterprise is a cool, confident pilot who can do amazing things, and unfortunately she's mostly taken a (metaphorical) backseat to the rest of the crew when it comes to screentime and storylines.
While season 2 gave Ortegas fans more of the fabulous flier, it really wasn't enough. Thankfully the show's writers and producers listened,...

Captain Pike has been turned into a puppet in the new teaser for the fourth season of “Star Trek: Strange New World,” which was shared with fans at San Diego Comic Con Saturday.
“Hit it,” Muppet Pike says in the new video — “hit it” being the thing he says when he wants the ship to go to warp speed — before confusedly adding, “You heard me say hit it, right? Spock? Anyone?”
“Did you go to season four without me?” he adds.
The trailer appears to hint at an upcoming episode that will feature the cast as puppets. There might have been an unexpected and terrible transporter accident,” said executive producer Akiva Goldsman at Sdcc. “Which might have had some unexpected felt-like effects.”

A new teaser for the next season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds promises a Star Trek episode unlike any other. It offers a glimpse of Enterprise commander Captain Christopher Pike, who possesses the gravity-defying hair and dulcet tones of Anson Mount, but is otherwise...a puppet. The clip was revealed during the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con today. The fourth season of Strange New Worlds is now in production and is expected to be released next year on Paramount+.
The clip begins with dramatic music, focusing on the back of Pike's command chair on the Enterprise's bridge as it slowly pans around, revealing that the captain is now a somewhat hilarious puppet. His "hit it" catchphrase goes unheeded on the otherwise deserted bridge, and Pike soon becomes concerned that everyone else went to Season 4 without him. The Jim Henson-esque appearance of the puppet-Pike brings to mind "Smile Time,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers teases an episode that will finally put the focus on Lieutenant Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia). Debuting in 2022, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is currently airing on Paramount+.
The series follows the crew of the USS Enterprise years before Captain Kirk took command of the ship. Much like how Kirk is not yet in the Captain's chair, Lieutenant Sulu has not taken over as helmsman, with that role being filled by Ortegas.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier, Myers teases an episode that will focus on Ortegas. He points out that the character is often heavily involved in storylines because of her invaluable skill as a pilot. The upcoming episode will get to dive into her history, and Myers describes it as "one of my favorite things that we've ever done."

The new season of “Strange New Worlds” picks up right where the previous season left off, offering thrilling adventure where no one has gone before.
If you’re anything like me, you watch a little more TV than is probably good for you. The upshot for me with this problem is that I have a platform to share my thoughts on the best titles I watch on a week-in, week-out basis with readers. Not only does this give me an outlet for my thoughts, but it hopefully can be a help to confused cord-cutters in a world where streaming services are constantly bombarding viewers with more and more titles.
With that in mind, I wanted to share the best title I streamed this week. As may come as no surprise to anyone who knows me (or read my bio), I picked the new season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,...

Rebecca Romijn is officially back as Mystique after more than a decade away from the role. The last time fans saw her playing the famous blue mutant was in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, and even then, it was just a quick cameo without her name in the credits.
But now, she’s returning for Avengers: Doomsday, alongside some of her old X-Men co-stars like Allan Cumming, James Marsden, Sir Ian McKellen, and Sir Patrick Stewart.
Talking to Et recently, Romijn opened up about what it’s like stepping back into Mystique’s blue skin. When asked how it feels to return after so long, she said it’s been a really positive experience. “It’s been incredibly fun, very surreal and wonderful to be with my old cast as well as new cast.”
But it’s not all easy. Romijn explained that transforming into Mystique still takes a lot of time in the makeup chair.

Rebecca Romijn is returning as Mystique after 14 years away from the role. Her last appearance as the character was a brief, uncredited cameo in X-Men: First Class back in 2011.
Now, she’s set to reprise the iconic mutant in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, joining many of her old co-stars from the Fox X-Men series, including Alan Cumming, James Marsden, Sir Ian McKellen, and Sir Patrick Stewart.
The details about her role in the new movie are still under wraps. The film’s synopsis says it takes place fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts* (2025) and shows the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men teaming up to face Doctor Doom. This information comes from reports on the movie’s development.

Watch out, captain! This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3, episode 1, "Hegemony, Part II."
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 2 ended with a massive cliffhanger, and "Hegemony, Part II" is tasked with solving things as well as it can. The Gorn are such a powerful threat that Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew can only score a technical knockout -- and even then, they have to harness the literal power of the stars to manipulate the Gorn hibernation cycle. As Pike aptly puts it, this merely creates an even bigger problem for someone later down the line.
The heart of "Hegemony, Part II" isn't the danger of a large-scale Gorn attack against the Federation, though. After all, the show's place in the franchise timeline confirms that this threat will be foiled. Instead, the episode's most impactful moments depict the Gorn's effect on individual characters, and...

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are mindful of "Star Trek" canon. They have to be, since this is a prequel series that must lead into "Star Trek: The Original Series." At the same time, Goldsman has admitted that "Strange New Worlds" sometimes looks at canon as more of a loose guideline. The writers aren't out to change too much, but "ultimately, story wins."
The loose canon is most apparent in how "Strange New Worlds" has been handling the aliens known as the Gorn. Introduced in classic "Star Trek" episode "Arena," the Gorn are an aggressive reptilian race that destroys a Federation outpost. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) is forced into a one-on-one trial by combat with the Gorn ship's captain.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few ... until they don't. "Star Trek" has always wrestled with this moral quandary, dating back to Leonard Nimoy's first appearance as Spock in "The Original Series." Yet, even Gene Roddenberry himself couldn't have anticipated just how prescient this debate would become as the franchise continually grew and expanded over the long decades. Practically every series has been made up of an ensemble of characters, all of whom are rich and layered enough to demand entire episodes and arcs revolving around themselves. Of course, this was a much easier proposition in a previous era of syndicated television, when networks routinely ordered seasons amounting to upwards of 20 episodes each. Nowadays, at a time when streaming mandates and soaring budgets result in far less runway to tell the same space-bound stories, well, viewers are robbed of the ability to truly get to...

Spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" follow.
When we last left the crew of the Starship Enterprise in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 2 finale, "Hegemony," things weren't going too well. The vicious alien Gorn had abducted half of the bridge crew. War between Starfleet and the Gorn risked going hot. Captain Pike's (Anson Mount) lover Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) was infected with Gorn hatchlings. Pike himself was paralyzed by indecision as the Gorn ships bore down on the Enterprise; Admiral April (Adrian Holmes) called the Enterprise back to the fleet, not leaving them time to rescue their shipmates. The ship's second in command, Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), called for orders from the helm, but Pike didn't give them.
As chilling a place as that was to leave "Strange New Worlds" season 2, we should've known the Enterprise crew would rise to the job. Pike's silent freeze up was just a pause,...

The romances on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have been somewhat unexpected. The show is set before Star Trek: The Original Series, so we know that pretty much none of these relationships are "endgame," so to speak. In a way, that gives Strange New Worlds the freedom to have a little fun with love stories that are doomed, angsty, non-traditional, and/or casual. That's how we ended up with the delightfully complex LA'an Noonian-Singh (Christina Chong) — yes, that Noonian-Singh — and an alternate universe James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley).
And, most importantly for fans of Star Trek: The Original Series, there's the love triangle between Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) and Spock (Ethan Peck) and T'Pring (Gia Sandhu)! At the Tribeca Film Festival's premiere event for the long-awaited Strange New Worlds Season 3, the cast and crew dished about some of those love stories and what it means to make them in the Trek-verse.

How do you go from wrassling Captain Kirk to serving Alien realness on the final frontier? In Season 1,Star Trek: Strange New Worlds introduced, or rather re-introduced, the Gorn, an alien race from an iconic episode of the original series that had kind of a bad rap in a good way. At the Tribeca Film Festival's Strange New Worlds Season 3 premiere, which screened the episode that concludes a Gorn-heavy cliffhanger from 2023, here's what co-creators Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers had to say about bringing the Gorn to screen again.
"My obsession with the Gorn begins [...] as a boy," Goldsman told the crowd at the Q&a, which was moderated by NPR TV Critic Eric Deggans. "Michael Chabonand I actually had a day glow Gorn poster in the commissary of the occupied Borg cube on Picard," he continued. "They painted it out in [post-production]. After a two-year shore leave, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns to the screen, resuming its duties as the flagship of Paramount’s modern fleet. The series solidified its position by skillfully reviving the franchise’s foundational premise: a capable crew, led by the eminently decent Captain Christopher Pike, engaging in episodic exploration aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in the years just before Kirk’s command. It became a fan favorite precisely because it remembered that a good space adventure didn’t always need to be a season-long referendum on the galaxy’s fate.
The third season continues this mission with a confident, almost casual swagger. It leans heavily into the playful, genre-hopping structure that has become its signature, delivering polished and often delightful installments. Yet, an unmistakable shift in narrative philosophy has occurred.

For 60 years, "Star Trek" has stubbornly and steadfastly refused to be a single thing. Ask three fans what they treasure about Gene Roddenberry's science fiction universe and you'll likely get very different answers, probably delivered at great, rambling length. It's the kind of world that was built to inspire a deep passion — it's wide enough to get lost in, deep enough to continuously fascinate, and inconsistent enough to keep everyone complaining and nitpicking as only true lovers could.
The beautiful and inspiring thing about "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is how it threads the needle. Yes, it's a prequel series that's set in a specific time and place and has to continuously bend over backwards to fit established canon, but it does so with such gentle, easygoing grace that newcomers can enjoy it without issue. At no point does it it seem to be trying too hard to appeal...

When Paramount+ launched in the U.S. and territories around the globe, it seemed the Star Trek franchise would thrive for the years to come.
But after the end of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, the more likely scenario is that these shows are too expensive in the current TV climate.
The streaming platform made the controversial announcement Thursday that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also be decommissioned.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Trailer Takes the Crew on 'Whatever Kind of Adventure We Want to Take’
Ahead of the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a brand-new trailer clocking in at just over a minute-and-a-half dropped via IGN. Strange New Worlds debuts its third season on July 17. The third season of the series, following Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his faithful crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, will consist of 10 episodes.
The action-packed trailer starts calmly with Rebecca Romijn’s Commander Una Chin-Riley, Aka Number One, saying, “Someone once said space is dark and cold. Our job is to bring light, bring warmth, bring life wherever we go.”
Chin-Riley is then seen with Captain Pike asking him, “Is this a ‘hit it’ situation?” referring to Pike’s catchphrase when the ship goes to warp. Pike replies, “It’s whatever kind of adventure we want it to be.” Also spotted in the new trailer is Carol Kane’s Pelia offering what seems...

It looks like we didn't need to worry too much over that 2-year cliffhanger from Season 2, as the entire Enterprise crew is all smiles in the latest trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. While the new footage certainly features its fair share of action, it primarily emphasizes the lighter, more hopeful aspects of the series with an opening voiceover from Rebecca Romijn's Number One, promising to bring "light,...
