Exclusive: Deleted Scene From David Chase's Feature Debut 'Not Fade Away' Featuring James Gandolfini
In the crush of releases late in the year, it's bound to happen that one or two might miss your attention, so if you didn't get a chance to catch up with "The Sopranos" creator David Chase's feature directorial "Not Fade Away" last December, now's your shot to give it another go. Rock 'n roll comes front and center in the movie that follows four young New Jersey men -- John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, Brahm Vaccarella -- who are inspired by the rising sounds of the 1960s and set out to form a band. But of course, their wild hair, loud sounds, and a generational clash of cultures don't make things easy. And in this exclusive scene, we see how that battle plays out as James Gandolfini warns his young son to show up for a dinner date at a restaurant looking presentable. "Not Fade Away" is...

Not Fade Away, David Chase.s deeply felt love letter to the music of the Sixties, is a film about dreams that come true — and the ones that never do. For Chase, .It.s about anybody who has ever had a dream and about what it takes to actually realize that dream. Rock & roll is at the heart of the movie because for some of the characters, rock music is the gateway to transcendence, but it doesn.t end there..
Traditionally, most rock & roll movies have focused on the agony and ecstasy of .making it. on a grand scale, usually with thousands of fans screaming in the background. As a rule, we witness some band of brothers. rise and fall, then their crash and burn, and perhaps the eventual resurrection. As one might expect from a man best known as the creator of the groundbreaking television series The Sopranos, Not Fade Away...

When you give the world a show like "The Sopranos," your move to the big screen is going to be met with plenty of attention, and let's face it, expectation.
But David Chase, the laconic, taciturn show creator and writer, seems entirely unconcerned by what other people are expecting of him and tapped into his past aspirations of rock and roll stardom for his directorial debut, Not Fade Away.
The movie takes place in Chase's old stomping grounds - '60s New Jersey - where a group of young men (John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, Brahm Vaccarella) decide to form a band, influenced by the attitudes and styles of The Rolling Stones and the Beatles, and figure out how to forge their identities and personal politics while navigating the generation gap between them and their parents.

With all the big movies swinging their dicks as December winds down, we nearly forgot about David Chase's "Not Fade Away." The feature debut from "The Sopranos" creator hasn't been making many waves, but it's still coming to theaters, hoping some of that old time rock 'n roll will find an audience. The the film centers on a quartet of young lads -- played by John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, Brahm Vaccarella) -- who are inspired by the rising sounds of rock in 1960s New Jersey, and set out to form a band. As is usually the case when you're young and still living at home, a clash of cultures emerges, along with bracing reality of trying to make your dreams come true. But try they will and in this scene, the band -- named The Twylight Zones -- plays out a full song as part of an audition.

For a film that’s ostensibly set to the vibrant pulse of early ‘60s rock 'n' roll and blues -- The Rolling Stones, the early Beatles, Bo Diddley, etc. -- David Chase’s directorial debut, “Not Fade Away,” sure has a curious, circuitous and eventually long-winded tempo. Set in 1964, just a few months after the Kennedy assassination with Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement and the sexual revolution in the air, “The Sopranos” creator’s ambitions are decidedly simpler and much more small scale. The set up is simple: The Rolling Stones make their U.S. television premiere on “The Hollywood Palace” in the summer of 1964 and three best friends from the suburbs of New Jersey -- Douglas (John Magaro), Eugene (Jack Huston from “Boardwalk Empire”) and Wells (Will Brill) -- enthralled with their swaggery blues beat, are compelled to form a rock band (Joe Patuto, played by Brahm Vaccarella joins...

Recently announced as the Centerpiece Gala selection for the 50th New York Film Festival, today we have the first two pictures from David Chase's (creator of "The Sopranos") feature directorial debut Not Fade Away. The film is described as a coming-of-age story, set in New Jersey in 1964 where a group of friends are inspired to form their own rock band fronted by a gifted singer-songwriter (played by newcomer John Magaro, pictured above).
