Atala Arce

Chop Chop - Jennie Kermode - 16307
A young couple enjoying a night alone together. Dinner, romance, the promise of good times. A knock at the door. It's a man who claims that he has pizza to deliver. Liv (Atala Arce) is alone when she answers the door, boyfriend Chuck (Jake Taylor) in another room and unable to hear her. We've already seen the pizza delivery man walking along carrying a bag of severed heads so we know how this is going to end, don't we? No. We really don't.

Chop Chop is one of those film that presents a real challenge to reviewers because of its multiple twists, with a narrative that is dramatically restructured more than once. It slips between the horror and crime genres with ease but also has elements of comedy and romance. Throughout, it is very much its own creature. The tricks it plays never destroy the mood and director Rony Patel never.

Film Review: Chop Chop (2020) by Rony Patel
Image
Numerous genre films over the years have taken advantage of the trope involving a psychopath out on a rampage meeting up with someone or something far deadlier and more dangerous than they are. These have ranged from efforts like “Don’t Breathe to Bone Sickness” and even this year’s British home invasion effort “The Owners”. Now, newcomer Rony Patel puts his own spin on the formula with the new cross-genre effort Chop Chop, arriving on VOD platforms for rent or own October 20th through Gravitas Ventures.

Settling in for a home-cooked meal, Chuck (Jake Taylor) and his girlfriend Liv (Atala Arce) are unaware of what lies ahead for them until a bizarre pizza delivery-man arrives at their house. Having to kill the stranger to prevent him from killing them, they promptly set out to get rid of him by dismembering and scattering his body. After trying to discard the remains,...

A Psychopath vs Young Lovers in Trailer for Horror Film 'Chop Chop'
"We need to go... Now." Gravitas + Kamikaze Dogfight have released an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Chop Chop, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Rony Patel. The film is hitting VOD next month just before Halloween, for anyone interested. Chaos ensues when a serial killer psychopath targets a loving young couple who might be harboring a secret of their own. An innocent night at home is ruined when he shows up, but there might be more to the lovers than meets the eye. The cast includes Atala Arce, Jake Taylor, David Harper, Mikael Mattsson, Jeremy Jordan, Mike Thompson, & James McCabe. This looks extra bloody and extra brutal, and made with a very low budget. Check this out below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Rony Patel's Chop Chop, direct from YouTube: An innocent night between a young couple takes a very bizarre turn when...
