‘American Ninja Warrior’ Vance Walker on his historic and ‘absolutely terrifying’ second win [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
History was made on NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” Monday night when 19-year-old Vance Walker became the first back-to-back winner of the $1 million prize. The fierce competitor who trains in Tampa, Florida advanced through all four stages of the national finals, culminating in a 75-foot rope climb up Mount Midoriyama in a time of 27.60 seconds. He edged out his training partner, Caleb Bergstrom, who finished second with a time of 28.90 seconds. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“It could never be as emotional as the first time, but it was still awesome,” the Season 16 champ tells Gold Derby. “It was absolutely terrifying going third, and I had two people after me with Caleb getting up the rope. I assumed that since last season he didn’t get up the rope that he wouldn’t that time either. When I did hit the buzzer I was like, ‘Okay, I’m pretty sure I won.

American Ninja Warrior Flip Rodriguez Dropped His Ego And Became A Hero
Image
Celebrities like Tony Danza, Cher, and Joe Jonas faced accusations of ego, along with claims about Taylor Swifts rule. Flip Rodriguez initially came off as egotistical on American Ninja Warrior, but later transformed into an inspirational figure. Rodriguezs journey from egotism to philanthropy and growth showcases the power of dropping ones ego for personal development.

As anyone who follows pop culture will know, many celebrities have been accused of being egotistical. For example, Tony Danza got flack for his red carpet behavior, Cher called David Letterman a jerk, and Joe Jonas' ego may have led to the Jonas Brothers split. On top of that, some fans claimed Taylor Swift had an egotistical rule.

On the bright side, anyone can get over their ego. A perfect example of that is Flip Rodriguez from American Ninja Warrior, since he dropped his ego and became a hero.

‘As Neves’ Director Sonia Mendez Discusses Hyper-Connected Youth, Shock of Adulthood, Working With Film Composer Andy Bell
Image
In her feature film debut, “As Neves,” writer-director Sonia Méndez follows a group of teenagers in a Galician village struggling with the disappearance of a friend following a drug-fueled party and heavy snowfall that has cut off Internet access, complicating the search.

Speaking to Variety, Méndez says she was eager to explore a number of elements in the film, namely the youth of today, which she describes as the most hyper-connected generation, and the often violent transition to adulthood.

“As Neves” screens in competition at the Malaga Film Festival.

Having experienced adolescence in the 1990s and belonging to the last generation caught between the analog and digital worlds, Méndez was fascinated by the “coexistence of both paradigms,” particularly among teenagers who live in such isolated areas as the mountain village of As Neves but are nevertheless always online, “which is very common in Galicia.”

Méndez points out, however, that the...

2022 Latin Grammy nominations list: Bad Bunny leads with 10, but can he finally win Album of the Year?
Image
Bad Bunny leads the 2022 Latin Grammy Award nominations with 10 bids including Album of the Year (“Un Verano Sin Ti“) and Record of the Year (“Ojitos Lindos”), but can he finally win top honors from the academy? Scroll down for the complete list of contenders in all categories.

SEEBillboard charts: Number-one albums of 2022

The Latin Recording Academy has been somewhat ambivalent about Bad Bunny, judging from his track record over the years. He has won four times, but only in urban genre categories. He lost his three previous Album of the Year bids (for “Yhlqmdlg” and “Oasis” in 2020 and “El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo” in 2021) and his previous Record of the Year nom (for “Vete” in 2020). However, Bad Bunny has emerged as the biggest crossover Latin star in the world. “Un Verano Sin Ti” has topped the all-genre, all-language Billboard 200 albums chart for 11 weeks, which is more than any album in six years.
