Marion Cotillard Set for Bertrand Mandico’s Italian Cinema Homage ‘Roma Elastica’ to Be Shot at Cinecittà
Image
Marion Cotillard is set to star in French director Bertrand Mandico’s “Roma Elastica,” a homage to the glory days of Italian cinema that will soon shoot at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios.

The Oscar-winning star of “La Vie en Rose,” and more recently “The Ice Tower” – whose other standout roles titles include “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Inception” – will be appearing in “Roma Elastica” alongside Noémie Merlant (“The Innocent”) and Maurizio Lombardi (“The New Pope”), according to the website of Italy’s promotional film body Filmitalia. Rounding out the “Roma Elastica” cast are vintage Cinema Italiano icons Ornella Muti and Franco Nero (“Django”).

Mandico is an eclectic cult director known for a gender-bending body of work that comprises his debut feature “The Wild Boys,” about five wealthy adolescent boys sent to a tropical island, all played by actresses, which premiered in Venice and topped Cahiers du Cinéma’s 2018 list of Top 10 films.

Amazon Cancels ‘Citadel’ Spinoffs ‘Honey Bunny’ and ‘Diana’
Image
“Citadel” spinoffs “Honey Bunny” and “Diana” have been canceled after one season each at Amazon MGM Studios.

Rather than continuing as individual series, the shows, which are based in India and Italy, respectively, will be woven into the mothership series’ upcoming second season, which will premiere in the second quarter of 2026.

Per its logline, Season 2 of “Citadel” will take place one month after the events of Season 1, following the spies underground as they’re being hunted by Manticore agents around the world. They’re pulled out of hiding to join forces with a new team of unconventional spies when Manticore’s Brazilian billionaire Paulo Braga threatens to unleash a cataclysmic piece of technology, built by Citadel’s own Bernard Orlick, into the world.

“While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of ‘Citadel’ will be our most exhilarating yet,” Amazon MGM Studios television...

Amazon's 'Blade Runner 2099' Starring Michelle Yeoh Finishes Production
Image
The Blade Runner franchise received a long-awaited sequel in 2017 from Denis Villeneuve, and although it was hailed by many as another masterpiece, the film failed to make a splash at the box office. Since then, another big-screen installment has been out of the conversation, but audiences will be re-entering the futuristic neo-noir world soon enough. Amazon is currently developing Blade Runner 2099, a television series starring Michelle Yeoh that will serve as the latest sequel to Ridley Scott's original 1982 classic.

According to Discussing Film, Blade Runner 2099 has officially wrapped production, which took place in the Czech Republic. Alongside the 2023 Best Actress Oscar winner, Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is set as the co-lead for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. Due to the union strikes in 2023, the show's production was delayed several times before finally finishing filming late this year. As one could assume, plot details have remained scarce at best,...

Michelle Yeoh's Blade Runner Series Gets Exciting Filming Update
Image
The next installment in the Blade Runner franchise is almost ready. Blade Runner 2099 has just received a massive production update.

Per DiscussingFilm, Blade Runner 2099 has wrapped filming. Production on the limited sci-fi series began in Prague in May 2024, with filming kicking off the following month. Rob Hardy and Ula Pontikos served as cinematographers. This production update comes roughly 18 months after the Prime Video series was originally set to begin filming. However, Prime Video froze production on Blade Runner 2099 until May 2024 due to the then-ongoing writers' strike. This delay resulted in the production leaving Northern Ireland's Belfast Harbour Studios once the strike had concluded for Prague, Czech Republic.

Blade Runner 2099: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Image
The Blade Runner 2049 sequel is arriving in the form of a Prime Video series, and here's all the Blade Runner 2099 news. 1982's Blade Runner follows Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who is assigned to track down and kill replicants in the future. Replicants are a type of life-like androids that were designed to be laborers, but many rebel and decide to live their own lives. The movie examines humanity while being a visual neo-noir spectacle, and that theme continues in the legacy sequel Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner 2049 has a definitive ending, but it sets up a sequel in several different ways. Unfortunately, following the movie's huge underperformance at the box office, making just $267 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo) from a $150-185 million budget, it seemed like another sequel wasn't likely going to get greenlit. However, while it might not be a movie, a follow-up will be...

The Russo Bros.' Action Spy Franchise Finally Gaining Streaming Steam After 51% Rt Disappointment
Image
Citadel and Citadel: Diana are both charting simultaneousy. Prime Video's Citadel, a series about a spy syndicate that was executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci, premiered in April 2023 with a lukewarm reception. In addition to earning 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, it vanished from the platform's Top 10 chart relatively quickly. However, plans to expand it into an international franchise continued, with the Italian follow-up Citadel: Diana starring Matilda De Angelis launching in October 2024.

In the daily Prime Video Top 10, which tracks movies and shows simultaneously, both of the Russo Brothers' spy shows have climbed the chart in the wake of the Diana premiere. The new series is charting at No. 1 while the original show is close behind at No. 2. They are the most-watched series on the platform at the time of writing, original or otherwise, ranking above The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

Citadel: Diana Review — Matilda De Angelis Stars in a Revamped Spy Series Dripping with Stunning Twists, Turns, and Deception!
Image
Citadel: Diana is here. It’s hard to fathom how Prime Video’s massive, bloated disappointment Citadel inspired enough confidence to warrant several spinoffs in the coming months. The original series dropped with much buzz and fanfare, mainly due to the “from the Russo Brothers” stamp of approval and the presence of two attractive megastars.

However, as much as you might want to get lost in the eye candy of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden (and join Stanley Tucci in the “bald brotherhood”), everything about Citadel was overblown, overwrought, and overdone—yet undercooked, like that gorgeous holiday goose that never thaws.

Citadel: Diana, however, is different. Prime Video’s attempt to expand its reach into other markets—à la Netflix—benefits from scaling down the cast, giving characters more engaging arcs, and using special effects in small, effective doses. It also helps to have a breakout star like Matilda De Angelis.

Citadel: Diana Star Matilda de Angelis & Showrunner Gina Gardini Talk Bringing Citadel To Italy
Image
Citadel: Diana is the first of several planned spinoffs meant to make Prime Videos Citadel a truly international franchise. Set in 2030 Milan, the 6-episode Italian-language series tells the story of Diana Cavalieri, an undercover Citadel agent trapped as a mole within the Manticore syndicate in a post-Citadel world. To survive, Diana has no choice but to trust the heir of Manticores Italian branch.

As seen in this Citadel: Diana clip, the series is a tense, stylish thriller in a fittingly similar vein to Citadel. For this, viewers have showrunner and executive producer Gina Gardini, among others like creator Alessandro Fabbri, to thank. The show is led by Italian actor and singer Matilda de Angelis in its titular role, and also stars Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardi, and Julia Piaton.

Prime Video has released a high-octane trailer for its spy series “Citadel: Diana,” starring Italy’s Matilda De Angelis (“The Undoing”) as Diana Cavalieri, an undercover Citadel agent fighting against an enemy syndicate set in a near-future Milan.

The six-episode show – which marks the streamer’s most ambitious Italian original to date – is the country’s installment of Prime Video’s high-concept “Citadel” franchise that debuted in April 2023. The series is meant to serve as a launch pad for multiple shows set in different countries that are all connected via plot and characters.

De Angelis, a rising Italian star, made her international breakthrough in Susanne Bier’s “The Undoing,” alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. She also appeared with Liev Schrieber in the Ernest Hemingway adaptation “Across the River and Into the Trees,” directed by Paula Ortiz.

Deadline notes that Burke and Lombardi will both have recurring roles on the show, but details on their characters have not been revealed.

We’ve previously heard that Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) are set to star in the series alongside Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy), Katelyn Rose Downey...

Jude Law Says Netflix's Ripley 'Couldn't Be Further' from His Version
Image
Jude Law praises Netflix's Ripley adaptation, appreciating the new perspective and angle it brings to the iconic character. Despite vast differences from the original, Law enjoys the cold, black and white tone of Ripley, finding it rewarding and interesting. The new Ripley invoked emotional memories for Law, taking him back to his younger years and highlighting the evolution of cinema.

Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley character Tom Ripley has been adapted many times, from Purple Noon in 1960 to Ripley's Game in 2002. Perhaps the most famous Ripley adaptation starred Matt Damon as the titular con artist and Jude Law as his friend/victim, Dickie Greenleaf. 25 years later, Netflix has released a television adaptation from Schindler's List writer Steve Zaillian, simply titled Ripley. While it was praised by critics, Ripley hasn't been too popular with audiences, but Jude Law certainly liked it, even if he thinks it's completely different from his The Talented Mr.

New Netflix Thriller Wins Critics But Struggles to Draw Viewers
Image
Ripley's impressive critical reception on Rotten Tomatoes didn't translate to high viewer numbers on Netflix. Despite a strong cast and interesting narrative, Ripley struggled to engage audiences with its artistic choices. The decision to film Ripley in black and white added depth but may have alienated viewers seeking more vibrant visuals.

Netflix's latest offering, Ripley, a thriller based on Patricia Highsmith's acclaimed novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, has set a dubious record for the streaming giant. Despite garnering an impressive 86% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the series struggled to pull in viewers, according to What's on Netflix.

Despite its strong cast and solid critical reception, Ripley encountered tepid viewer numbers. Over its first four days, the series amassed only 2.3 million CVEs, a metric that reflects the number of times viewers watched the series from start to finish. This figure represents the lowest opening for a limited...

Ripley stands out for its bold choices like the black and white aesthetic, but some critics have disagreed with these choices. The slow pace of Ripley may disappoint thriller fans, as the show focuses more on Tom's psyche and decisions instead. Is Netflix's Ripley Based on The Talented Mr Ripley?
Image
'Ripley' hits Netflix with Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley in the newest adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's classic crime novel. While staying true to the novel, the ending of 'Ripley' on Netflix differs from the 1999 movie in key details and final moments. Season 2 of 'Ripley' leaves viewers hanging on a cliffhanger, with Inspector Ravini potentially continuing the pursuit of Tom Ripley.

New to Netflix on April 4, 2024, Ripley is the third adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's acclaimed 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. The story concerns Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott), a wily forger and con man who steals the identity of the wealthy European playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) and lives a life of luxury. Although it's the first TV translation of the classic crime story, the Netflix original series joins the 1960 French film Purple Noon and the 1999 American movie The Talented Mr. Ripley as fictional adaptations.

Ripley Review: New Adaptation is Dark and Stormy and Not Always in a Good Way
Image
When we meet Tom Ripley at the start of Steve Zallian’s eight part adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s celebrated novel The Talented Mr Ripley, he’s not the fresh faced chancer of Matt Damon’s Ripley in Anthony Minghella’s 1999 version. Andrew Scott’s Ripley is a grifter in his 40s, a jaded low-level fraudster living in New York. He’s not even especially talented – or not at this point anyway.

An encounter with shipping magnate Herbert Greenleaf sees Ripley heading to Italy on Greenleaf’s dime to lure back his errant son Dickie (Johnny Flynn) who is living in the idyllic city of Atrani on the Amalfi coast. Here Dickie paints, hangs out on his yacht, flirts with the locals and lives in a beautiful home with his girlfriend Marge (Dakota Fanning). Ripley insinuates himself into Dickie’s life but soon grows obsessed, not just with the lifestyle but with Dickie himself.
