It's finally here! October, the best month of the year, especially if you're a horror movie fan. Any time of year is the right time to watch a horror movie, but there's something extra special about watching horror movies as we draw closer and closer to Halloween. And to help you get into the spirit of the season, this month's horror streaming roundup is all about ghost movies! Not just haunted house movies, mind you — but movies about ghosts and all their spooky antics. I like all horror subgenres. Vampires? Hell yes. Slashers? Absolutely. Monsters? Yep! But of all the various types of horror movies, movies about ghosts are my personal favorite. I can't say that I believe in ghosts, but like Fox Mulder, I want to believe. Annabelle! She's everyone's favorite hideous terror doll! The ugly porcelain figure has appeared in several "Conjuring" movies, first popping up in the original "The Conjuring" before starring in her own film series. And, just to make things extra scary, she's real. Sort of. The "real" Annabelle is actually a rather harmless-looking Raggedy Ann doll, but that wouldn't fly for the movies. So when it came time for Annabelle to make her big screen debut, she was redesigned into the grinning ghoul we all know and love/loathe. In honor of Annabelle and all her horrific mayhem, we've decided to go ahead and rank all of the "Annabelle" movies. For the sake of brevity, we'll only be counting the three films with "Annabelle" in the title, since those are officially her films. So let's get to it! Great movie villains that never killed anyone remind viewers that villainy goes beyond murder, as the threat of death can be just as powerful. These villains, such as Phil Burbank and Annabelle, may not physically harm or kill anyone, but their actions and behavior still make them memorable and worthy adversaries. Some villains, like Dolores Umbridge and Mrs. Danvers, may not directly kill anyone, but they are responsible for other deaths and exhibit manipulation and cruelty in their own ways.

Great movie villains that never actually killed anyone are cut from a different cloth. They remind viewers that killing is just one aspect of the wide spectrum of villainy. Indeed, just the threat of death can be powerful enough to create a worthwhile and memorable villain for audiences. Even if people actually died because of the movie's antagonist, their choice of avoiding any actual wetwork gives the viewer more insight into the villain's motivations.

Exclusive: Jack Black has boarded Gianna, a horror comedy short written, produced by and starring his School of Rock co-star Rivkah Reyes, as an associate producer.

Also starring Emmy nominee Margaret Cho (Fire Island) and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow (Peacemaker), the film follows the newly sober and recently single Gina (Reyes), who is faced with the literal devil herself, after her sliding-scale therapist (Cho) suggests spending time with her inner demons. Kait Schuster served as director, with Jarad Schwartz and Brando Crawford among the EPs on the short, which premieres at Inside Out Festival and will also play the Palm Springs Shorts Festival.

“I loved the perfectly twisted queerness of the story and script and I had to get involved,” said Cho of the project. “Rivkah is The Gay Future!!!!!”

So Cold the River opens with former hotshot documentary director Erica Shaw making a slideshow for someone’s funeral. It’s about all the work she can get since one of her films proved a convicted killer’s innocence. Only for him to slaughter his entire family as soon as he was released.

Saban Films has acquired North American and South African rights to “So Cold The River,” a new thriller from Paul Shoulberg. The deal, which was forged with UK-based distribution and sales company Blue Finch Films, also includes rights to distribute the film in Australia and New Zealand rights via Saban’s partners at Defiant Screen Entertainment.

Shoulberg, best known for “The Good Catholic,” also wrote the script, an adaptation of the novel by Michael Koryta (“Those Who Wish Me Dead”). The film stars Bethany Joy Lenz as a documentary filmmaker who soon realizes her subject isn’t who he claims to be.

The film also stars Andrew J. Film is a dark supernatural thriller following an ex-documentary filmmaker, Erica Shaw, who is hired to make a documentary about a dying multi-millionaire, Campbell Bradford. However, Campbell’s past is shrouded in mystery, leading Shaw to make shocking discoveries when her hunt for the truth leads her to his childhood hometown.

Warner Bros. has set the Denzel Washington-Rami Malek police thriller “The Little Things” for a Jan. 29, 2021, release.

John Lee Hancock is directing from his own script in which Washington portrays a burnt-out deputy sheriff from the Bakersfield area who teams with Malek’s crack Lasd detective in pursuit of a serial killer. Washington’s nose for the titular “little things” proves accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules place’s Malek’s character in a dilemma.

Jared Leto and Natalie Morales also star. Hancock and Mark Johnson are producing “The Little Things” and Mike Drake is executive producing.

The demonic doll Annabelle returns to cinemas in Annabelle Comes Home, the third movie centered on the titular doll and the latest entry into the growing Conjuring Universe. After Daniela (Katie Sarife) accidentally unleashes all of the spirits locked away in the Warrens’ basement, she and Mary (Madison Iseman) and Judy Warren (Mckenna Grace) have to work together to survive the night.

As simple as this premise is, there are some connections to the previous movies and real-life facts in relation to the Warrens (and their long history in the occult) that flew under the radar. Here are 10 things you may have missed in Annabelle Comes Home.

An elderly man in Thailand purchased a ticket to see Annabelle Comes Home, only to later be found dead when the movie was over. Although the deceased man was first reported to be a foreigner, he has since been identified as a 77-year-old British national who was in Thailand on vacation. While it's not clear if he was alone on the trip, he had gone to the cinema by himself, purchasing only a single ticket. Sadly, this would turn out to be the last thing he would ever do.

During the movie, nobody had noticed anything amiss, so it's impossible to say how long the man's body had been sitting there following his sudden death. When the theater lights were turned on after the showing, another patron sitting next to him was shocked to discover he was apparently dead. She immediately called for emergency assistance, and a responding doctor declared him dead on the scene.

Everyone's favorite haunted doll is back! So let’s break down the unleashed ending to the latest The Conjuring film, Annabelle Comes Home.

The Conjuring universe may have started with a restrained haunted house story, but it’s since visited haunted monasteries, tapped into Mexican folklore, and teased a whole world of supernatural entities. The Conjuring universe shows no signs of slowing down, but undoubtedly one of the franchise’s most popular characters is the haunted doll, Annabelle. Annabelle Comes Home is the third film in the Annabelle saga and is easily the craziest offering from any of the Conjuring pictures. It even brings The Conjuring’s Ed and Lorraine Warren back into the mix.

This film tells a fairly self-contained story that's neatly sandwiched between other films in the series, but Annabelle Comes Home still throws a lot at its audience.

After an excitingly popular debut during The Conjuring‘s prologue, the creepily revamped Annabelle doll (its real-life counterpart was actually a Raggedy Anne) earned the title role in the first spin-off of this ever-growing horror universe. That installment left much to be desired with screenwriter Gary Dauberman eventually redeeming himself three years later with Annabelle: Creation, thanks in part to director David F. Sandberg. You might assume this demonic vessel would then be left alone since its tragic trajectory had now been fully drawn from the home of its maker to its ultimate resting place inside Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed Warren’s (Patrick Wilson) in-house museum of cursed objects. With a third Conjuring film still in production, however, producer James Wan and Dauberman hatched a plan to keep going instead.

The new film takes the story of the malevolent doll -- which acts less like a living entity herself and more as a conduit for all kinds of unearthly spirits and creatures -- back where it started, to the home museum of real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who we first met in 2013’s The Conjuring.

Horror fans’ favorite demonic diva hit theaters earlier than expected this week, as Annabelle Comes Home has already been unleashed everywhere on the big screen. The latest chapter in the ever-growing Conjuring universe is here and the verdict is in. Annabelle Comes Home, based on the early indication from Rotten Tomatoes, may not be at the top of the food chain with this franchise, but it's apparently not half bad! Granted, Rotten Tomatoes is just a general indicator. That said, as far as third entries in a horror spin-off franchise go, this doesn't seem to be a bad bet for those who are looking for a little bit of spooky business at the movies this weekend.

Annabelle Comes Home actually hits theaters today, as Warner Bros. and New Line are looking to get a jump on the competition this weekend. As such, we've already got a critic and audience score. On the critical side, the movie has a decent 64 percent approval rating, with 69 reviews counted. The audience rating is a bit better, currently sitting at 74 percent.

In 2014, if someone claimed Annabelle would spawn the ‘Conjurverse’s’ most successful spinoff sequels, I’d’ve gone blue in the face from laughter. Not even Nostradamus could prophesize the leap in quality from Annabelle to Annabelle: Creation, and now Annabelle to Annabelle Comes Home.

Frequent ‘Conjurverse’ screenwriter Gary Dauberman helms this third continuation in the Warrens’ fight against dolly-dearest damnation, which is an absolute monster mashin’ blast. It’s like walking through a high-concept Halloween Horror Nights maze at Universal, and I mean that in the best funhouse way. Dauberman’s screenplay answers that oft-pondered Cabin In The Woods question, as characters unwittingly choose their collective fate, of “What happens if *all* the monsters get loose?” Annabelle isn’t alone, and as depicted, there ain’t no party like an Annabelle party because an Annabelle party don’t stop (the screams).

Annabelle Comes Home is a lame rehash of tired horror movie tropes. Lower your expectations to the basement, where a third of the film takes place.

A priest blesses the porcelain terror before the Warrens' imprison it in a sacred glass cabinet. Annabelle is locked away in their basement, along with other dangerous artifacts the Warrens' have collected. Annabelle becomes an afterthought as time passes by.

Tales of spooky occurrences on the sets of horror movies like “The Exorcist” and “Poltergeist” have circulated for years, and it looks like “The Conjuring” franchise is following in their footsteps in that regard. The cast of “Annabelle Comes Home” shared their unnerving stories from set at the film’s premiere on Thursday night at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif., but “Conjuring” veteran Patrick Wilson is not afraid of ghosts… or Annabelle dolls.

“That’s because it’s their first movie,” Wilson cracked to Variety on the red carpet when asked if he’d had any freak occurrences on set like his co-stars.
