Every Wu-Tang Clan Members' Real Name (& How The Legendary Hip-Hop Group Got Their Title)
Image
The Wu-Tang Clan members' real names are much less known than the exciting and themed titles they dubbed themselves when they formed the influential hip-hop group. In the 1980s, on Staten Island, New York, cousins Robert Diggs, Gary Grice, and Russell Jones began rapping together and soon caught the attention of larger labels and recognized rappers. After some time apart, the three men came back together in 1992 and formed the Wu-Tang Clan, eventually bringing in seven more members to fill out the ranks of the group.

Those who have seen Wu-Tang: An American Saga may have a sense of the history of the group, but the pop culture and musical impact of the Wu-Tang extends far beyond any biography. The early heroes of East Coast hip hop, Grandmaster Flash, the Sugar Hill Gang, and Run-dmc gave way to a hardcore variety of gangster rap that proved even more influential, and...

Super Cute Trailer for Amazon Freevee Doggie RomCom 'Puppy Love'
Image
"One bone can change everything." I wonder if they realize that tagline has multiple meanings? Especially for a romcom. Amazon debuted a trailer for a super cheesy, extra cute Hallmark Channel-esque romantic comedy film titled Puppy Love. It's being released on Amazon's "Freevee" service, "a free streaming video service from Amazon" kind of like Tubi. After a disastrous first date, Nicole & Max vow to lose each other's numbers until their dogs find a love match. Hilariously mismatched Nicole and Max are forced to become responsible co-parents, but end up finding love themselves. So their dogs end up hooking up and they end up together, too? What an original plot. Lucy Hale and Grant Gustin stars as Nicole and Max, with Jane Seymour, Michael Hitchcock, Corey Woods, Sarah Peguero, Al Miro, and Rachel Risen. At least the dogs are adorable, as for their chemistry? Funny that the guy has Star...

Police Investigating Burning Of LGBT Pride Flag In Tempe, Arizona
Image
The Tempe, Arizona Police Department is investigating the burning of an LGBTQ Pride flag last week.

The flag hung with the U.S. and Arizona flags before it was taken down and burned.

The Pride flag has since been replaced.

Tempe Mayor Corey Woods issued a statement, ensuring members of the LGBTQ community that “threatening, bullying and intimidating” members of the community will not be tolerated.

“We will continue our efforts to make our city stronger, even more welcoming, and even more inclusive,” he said. “We support our LGBTQ+ community. We stand with them.”

In February, a bomb threat was reported to target an LGBTQ-friendly coffee shop.

Arizona is one of the 19 states that have passed anti-lgbtq+ bills in recent years.

The first bill to pass prohibits school personnel from referring to minor students by a pronoun that matches their biological sex without written permission. The second and third allow...

Grant Vlahovic and Alexander J. Baxter in Jikirag (2022)
New US Trailer for Pagan Folk Horror Film 'Jikirag' Made in Canada
Grant Vlahovic and Alexander J. Baxter in Jikirag (2022)
"We struck an oath. Why has she abandoned the words." Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official US trailer for an indie horror film from Canada titled Jikirag, the feature directorial debut of the film's three directors. This "Pagan folk horror" film is getting a US release in September, though it hasn't shown up at any fests. A pagan village, founded on the bones of both innocent and foul, is deeply rooted within the heart of an ancient Eden. When a balance of flesh and soil decays, the last surviving village elder battles madness and the macabre to save her people from not only themselves but the monstrous judgment that burrows up from below. Starring Tracey Roath, Alexander J Baxter, Roy Campsall, Josefin Jönsson Tysén, Jenna Hill, and Corey Woods. Unfortunately this doesn't look great - underlit cinematography, campy dialogue, convoluted threats. No wonder all the festivals rejected this - we should all probably skip it,...

‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Review: Hulu’s Scripted Series Is a Slow Burn Origin Story
Following Showtime’s exceptional four-hour “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men” documentary, RZA teamed up with creator Alex Tse for “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” a 10-episode scripted series that serves as more than an origin story of the Staten Island crew that changed hip-hop forever. It captures the group’s early polychromatic points of view and emerging creative brilliance, and like the best origin stories, “Saga” tries to be a series that both Wu-Tang newcomers and Wu-Tang fanatics can grasp and enjoy.

However, the earlier documentary did a more thorough job of capturing the music and the personalities in the group, and, more importantly, it told the story with much more clarity, making “Of Mics and Men” required introductory viewing – especially for Wu neophytes – before watching “Saga” in order to be able fully appreciate the series.

Set in early 1990s New York City at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic,...
