John Goodman has been injured during the production of Warner Bros and Legendary’s Alejandro González Iñárritu movie, which is filming in the UK.
A Warner Bros Pictures spokesperson told us: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
We understand Goodman slipped during the past week while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand it led to filming being stopped for two days. It is described to us by sources as a relatively “minor injury” and the 72-year-old actor is expected back on set Monday.

The father-son relationship is a uniquely complex one, often fraught with unspoken expectations and shifting power dynamics. While ideally a source of encouragement and support, it is often a battleground of conflicting emotions. The Mehta Boys, directed by Boman Irani, offers an amusing perspective on this intricate dynamic, exploring their relationship with nuance. The film delves into the delicate and often fraught dynamics of their bond, showcasing the bitter-sweet push and pull of love and resentment that fuels powerful drama.

The Mehta Boys
Starring Boman Irani and Avinash Tiwari
Directed by Boman Irani
I was amused and exasperated to wake up to see a review claiming that a ‘brilliant’ Avinash Tiwari ‘outshines’ Boman Irani in The Mehta Boys (now streaming on Amazon Prime Video).
Firstly, this is quite untrue, and secondly, this is not a kabaddi match. But a delicately poised father-son mellow drama, where any effort by the two principal actors to outshine each other would have landed the film flat on its face.
Irani and Tiwari, as father and son Shiv and Amay playing a hostile pair on screen, are fulsomely aligned as actors, so much so that I wondered how much they must have worked towards achieving this level of compatibility on screen.
Boman Irani’s first stab at direction stabs you in the heart. The father-son conflict is as old as Ramesh Sippy’s Shakti and...

“Anora,” the free-wheeling tale of a sex worker who becomes entangled with the family of a Russian oligarch, and “I Saw the TV Glow,” a horror film about two teenagers whose obsession with a show causes them to lose grip on reality, dominated the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards nominations on Wednesday, picking up six nods apiece. Both movies are up for best feature, competing against the body horror film, “The Substance,” as well as “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing,” dramas that deal with different aspects of the criminal justice system.

Those budgetary caps don’t apply to the shows that the Spirits recognized, such as “Shōgun,” a lavish historical epic that topped all series with five nominations, including one for best new scripted series. With six nominations apiece, “Anora” and “I Saw the TV Glow” led all nominees in the film categories for the 40th Anniversary Film Independent Awards, which were announced on Wednesday morning. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025. As previously announced, Aidy Bryant will return as host.
Directed by Sean Baker, “Anora” has been on a winning streak since it premiered in Cannes in May, where it won the Palme d’Or. Jane Schoenbrun’s less well known horror movie “I Saw the TV Glow” gave it some stiff competition, tying it for the most nominations among film entries. “Didi” got four nods, while “Sing Sing” and “Janet Planet” tied with three nominations each.
Because the Indie Spirit Awards use different nominating committees for different categories, it’s usual for the choices to be inconsistent. That was certainly the case this year, with “Anora” and “I Saw the TV Glow...

Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons and Sophie Wilde are all on board The Revenant director’s new film. Riz Ahmed is also in the final stages of negotiations to join the cast. That’s a lot of star power and it has certainly caught our attention.
Hüller’s career has really taken off since her Oscar nomination for the tremendous Anatomy Of A Fall and it’s great to see a young star such as Wilde in the cast. Wilde was seen in Talk To Me, one of last year’s finest horror films.
