Fund This: ‘Spanglish’ Plans To Be A Bilingual Sketch Comedy Adventure
Project Name: Spanglish

Asking For: $8,450 on Kickstarter

Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $1,361

Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 22

Description: Spanglish is not a web series adaptation of a middling Adam Sandler movie from 2004. Rather, it is a sketch show that looks to bring its viewers a Hispanic point of view, a bilingual sensibility, and, of course, plenty of laughs. Its star, Mariola Figueroa, is a Puerto Rican actress who is looking to put her own spin on the sketch comedy format. In a series of videos, she and her co-creators will create ridiculous, multicultural scenes set in New York City. Judging by the project's pitch video, there will also be blood, robot eyes, and Shining references.

Creator Bio: Figueroa is one of four comedians involved in the Spanglish Kickstarter. The series' creators are all veterans of the New York comedy scene; out of all of them,...

Above Average’s ‘One Take Movies’ Are Pretty Great
The latest miniseries from Broadway Video's Above Average Network takes on the world of archetypes. It's called One Take Movies, and it features generic versions of specific genres, all filmed without any cuts. As with previous Above Average series, there are plenty of eye-winking nods to the ridiculous movie conventions for which viewers willingly suspend disbelief. The first episode takes on the world of superhero films: One Take Movies has a considerable amount of comedy talent behind it. It is co-created by Avery Monsen, who has an incredible, surreal Vine account, and Jon Bershad, who has a hilarious turn in the web series Nepotism. Ryan Hunter, who directed Poykpac's brilliant "Movie Title Breakup", is the series' director. Their combined effort is funny, but it suffers from the same problem as other Above Average series: It's too short

Indie Spotlight: ‘Nepotism’ Features A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Winners are no fun. I'd much rather watch characters who screw up in a myriad hilarious ways then follow cheery protagonists as they overcome trials and make something of their lives. Nepotism is the latest web series to understand this appeal. Nothing ever goes according to plan, and that makes for big laughs. Nepotism is a sketch series created by Macarony Productions, a New Jersey-based studio that has released everything from drama to comedy to commercial work. Nepotism, however, is Macarony's crown jewel: It spans more than 40 episodes and counting, with each one running around two minutes. Macarony calls Nepotism "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" (no, not that one), and that's a fairly accurate description; whether they are falling for scams, getting pickpocketed, or initiating undesirable threesomes, the series' characters can never catch a break. The cast rotates, but Nepotism's clear star is Jon Bershad, who recurs as a screenwriter named Dan Maddox.
