Olivia Rodrigo welcomed The Cure frontman Robert Smith onto the Pyramid Stage as she wrapped up a politically charged Glastonbury Festival on Sunday night.
The “Deja Vu” singer obliged with all of the fan favorites from her last two albums, Sour and Guts, including “Good 4 u,” “Jealousy, Jealousy” and “Traitor.”
“Holy fucking shit,” the U.S. star said from the fest’s iconic main stage, where thousands stood to see her perform. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in my life.”
She brought out Smith — “the greatest songwriter to come out of England” — nearly midway into the set. The pair played “Friday I’m in Love” and “Just Like Heaven” together.
A sweet moment occurred when Rodrigo dedicated the tune “so american” to Brit boyfriend and actor Louis Partridge, who was watching from backstage. “I fucking love England,” she began. “I love the culture. I...

Kneecap shocked exactly as expected at a raucous Glastonbury set on Saturday.
The Irish rap trio has drawn widespread criticism in recent months, with one of the members, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, charged with a terror offence last month. Glastonbury partner, the BBC, stood by their decision to air their set, despite U.K. culture secretary Lisa Nandy’s comments that the band “thrive on the oxygen of publicity.” Nandy said Thursday: “Personally, I don’t want to see that on TV screens.”
On Saturday afternoon at Glastonbury’s West Holts stage, which was fenced off as they came on due to overcrowding, Ó hAnnaidh told the 30,000-person crowd: “Glastonbury, I’m a free man!” Clips of newsreaders announcing his terror charge played before the band came on, as well as pro-Palestine messages and videos of various U.K. politicians criticizing the decision to have the band play at the festival.

Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, one-third of Irish rap group Kneecap, has been charged with a terror offense in the U.K.
Ó Hannaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara and was a star of Rich Peppiatt’s “print the legend” biopic on the Belfast, Ireland-based band, is accused of “displaying a flag in support of proscribed organization Hezbollah at a London gig,” according to the city’s Metropolitan Police, also known as Scotland Yard.
The 27-year-old was charged by the police after an incident on Nov. 21, 2024 at a venue in north London. He is due to appear in court on June 18.
The band took to social media after news of the charge. “We deny this ‘offense’ and will vehemently defend ourselves,” said Kneecap. “This is political policing. This is a carnival of distraction. 14,000 babies are about to die of starvation in Gaza, with food sent by the world sitting...

Liam O’Hanna ( Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh), a member of Irish-language rap group Kneecap, has been charged with a terror offense.
The charge is related to his reportedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a concert in London in November 2024.
The Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary group is proscribed as a terrorist organisation and banned under UK law.
The UK’s Metropolitan Polce said O’Hanna, whose stage name is Mo Chara, had been charged via postal requisition.
He has been summoned to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday June 18.
The charge follows the band running into the hot water at the Coachella in April after they projected “f*ck Israel,” “free Palestine” and other messages of protest against U.S. support of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza on the screen of the festival’s Sonora Stage. The messages were condemned by leading Jewish human rights organizations in the U.

Let’s be honest: Gender-based lists like THR‘s Most Powerful Women in International Film should be passé by now. It is 2025, after all. But the fight for equity in the global entertainment industry is anything but over. In some places, it’s barely begun. From the backlash against Dei initiatives in the U.S. to a blistering French report exposing systemic abuse across the arts, the message is clear: Progress is under threat. Which is why spotlighting these 45 global power players feels more vital than ever. “We need to fight back with all the tools and resources we have,” says Carole Scotta, co-founder of France’s production outfit Haut et Court. Or, as Nigeria’s EbonyLife CEO Mo Abudu puts it: “Until the industry makes room for authentic voices from different cultures and backgrounds — on a systemic level — we’ll continue to miss out on powerful, transformative storytelling.” In other words,...

Irish hip-hop band Kneecap have claimed that the pro-Palestine message they shared onstage during Coachella was cut from the festival’s livestream.
After the group made their Coachella debut on Friday, NME reported that the trio’s livestream was cut short when the band led an anti-Margaret Thatcher chant. The band re-tweeted the article and added that their support for the Palestinian people was also missing.
“Not the only thing that was cut – our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either,” the band wrote on X,...

Update: In the wake of the BBC acknowledging “serious flaws” in the production of its controversial documentary “Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone” and initiating a further review, Artists for Palestine UK, which had published a letter condemning the broadcaster’s decision to remove the film, have issued a statement.
Artists for Palestine UK said: “We are appalled that the BBC has chosen to give credence to a politicized campaign that sought to discredit a documentary about children’s experiences of unspeakable Israeli military violence, because one child’s father was deputy agriculture minister in Gaza. This disgraceful decision comes despite nearly 900 media figures having warned the BBC of the dangers of such an approach.
“Reports over the last week have detailed Israel’s detention and torture of hundreds of Gaza’s medical workers. The world has seen images of traumatized and emaciated Palestinian captives emerging from Israeli jails, some with limbs amputated.

As awards season rumbles ever onwards, Edward Berger’s Conclave takes the top prize at this year’s BAFTA ceremony.
It was the 2025 BAFTA cermony last night and this rather strange awards season continued with Edward Berger’s Conclave taking home the Best Film prize in a category that has been largely dominated by speculation about its rivals. However, the papal election drama landed Best Film, Best British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing gongs.
Also enjoying a good night at the ceremony was The Brutalist with the film scoring four awards – Best Director for Brady Corbet, Best Actor for Adrien Brody, not to mention Best Score (and what a score it is!) and Best Cinematography.
Sean Baker’s Anora landed Best Actress for Mikey Madison and Best Casting too. Dune: Part Two was awarded Best VFX and Best Sound, two prizes to honour what was an incredible technical achievement.

The Ee BAFTA Film Awards happened this evening at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted once more by David Tennant.
Poking fun at Trump during his monologue, Tennant also offered the usual celebrity gags and had several stars singing part of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)".
Cautioning audience members that there would not be an intermission as with nominated epic The Brutalist, Tennant also admonished winners to "keep your speeches the opposite of your films: nice and short."
A somewhat surprising addition to the night (though perhaps not given their presence on the soundtracks for both Better Man and Anora) was a performance of "Greatest Day" by Take That.
As for the winners, it was a good night for Conclave, which won Best Film, another Adapted Screenplay trophy for writer Peter Straughan, Best British Film and Editing and A Real Pain, which went home with Original Screenplay for...

Jeff Goldblum brought his special touch to the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony’s In Memoriam segment in London on Sunday, performing “As Time Goes By” on the piano while the names and faces of beloved industry figures who died over the past year were shown on a screen. The actor, who played The Wizard of Oz in the BAFTA-nominated Jon M. Chu-directed blockbuster Wicked, which stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Michelle Yeoh, added to the star power of the event held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in the British capital.
The jazz song was written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931. It became famous after it was featured in the 1942 film classic Casablanca, performed by Sam, played by Dooley Wilson.
“Goldblum’s soulful style will provide a moving and personal tribute,” BAFTA organizers had said when they unveiled his on-stage appearance during the biggest night in British film.

“Conclave” won Best Film at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards, leading the pack with four BAFTAs overall. The British equivalent of the Oscars took place February 16 from the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in central London, honoring the best in film for its 78th annual edition.
Edward Berger’s “Conclave” led all films with 12 BAFTA nominations, and it won Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay for Peter Straughan, and Best Editing. It’s an upset after “Anora” swept all three of the DGAs, PGAs, and WGAs. The last film to win those three prizes, but not Best Picture at the Oscars was “Brokeback Mountain,” but then again, it did win the BAFTA for Best Film.

Take That took over the BAFTA Film Awards stage in London on Sunday with a rendition of their hit song “Greatest Day,” featured in Sean Baker‘s awards season darling Anora.
The famed boy band performed in its current lineup of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen, but Robbie Williams and Jason Orange didn’t join them for the performance on the biggest night in British film.
The clearly excited audience at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in the British capital showered the band with much applause, loud cheers and many screams.

U.S. President Donald Trump got a bit of a roasting during the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony in London on Sunday, courtesy of host David Tennant.
The Scottish star (Doctor Who, Inside Man) during his opening monologue mentioned The Brutalist, lauding it as “as film of incredible architecture, the boldest architecture in film this year” with the exception of the hairdo of Donald Trump, played by Sebastian Stan, for The Apprentice.
“Donald Trump said he hasn’t seen The Apprentice — because it’s a 15 [British film rating]. It’s not on Nickelodeon,” Tennant continued before joking he had said Trump’s name three times. “It’s like Beetlejuice – I’ve summoned him.”
He followed up with: “Speaking of villains…” which drew much laughter and applause from the crowd.
The BBC broadcast of the ceremony later in the evening, which is always a shorter, edited version of the BAFTAs, included the hair and villains...

“When they asked me back, I thought, ‘Really? Are you sure?'” David Tennant jokes about returning to host the BAFTA Film Awards.
He is known around the world as Doctor Who, but the Scottish star is beloved in the U.K. in other roles such as in Broadchurch, Harry Potter and, most recently, Disney+’s Jilly Cooper adaptation Rivals.
Tennant took the same BAFTA gig in 2024 and found the entire experience relatively liberating, he reveals to The Hollywood Reporter. “You do learn in the midst of it that everyone who’s there has an agenda, absolutely understandably,” he says. “The people up for awards have an agenda, the people who are presenting awards have an agenda…. [As host], you’ve just got to keep it smooth. You quite quickly realize this must not be about me.”
“That was quite liberating, once I realized, ‘You know what? It doesn’t matter what I do.
