Stars: Marie Everett, Chynna Walker, Amanda Michaud, Julia Haworth, Tegan Mordt | Written and Directed by Nicholas Winter
Nicholas Winter’s The Imposters is a psychological thriller that takes the viewer on a suspense-filled journey through deception, identity, and fractured relationships. The film intrigued me with its layered narrative and strong performances, even as it occasionally stumbled over its ambitions.
The story centres on Maya, played with quiet intensity by Marie Everett. A high-end tutor recovering from a traumatic car accident, Maya is a woman untethered, and emotionally distanced from those around her. After a painful breakup with her long-term partner Anna (Tegan Mordt), she is drawn into a whirlwind romance with the enigmatic Hattie, brought to life by Chynna Walker. Their relationship takes them to Spain, where the vibrant landscapes starkly contrast the dark truths Maya begins to uncover.
Winter’s direction is confident, weaving a narrative that keeps the audience guessing.

It’s commonly known that it’s not a good idea to get romantically involved with somebody who’s just been through a break-up. The panic of instability combined with the sudden thrill of freedom – whether wanted or not – can make a person in that situation do crazy things. It can also make people willing to countenance ideas which, on later inspection, don’t make a lot of sense. Maya (Marie Everett) has, however, a history of making unwise decisions.
Did she sleep with one of her students? It’s an allegation to that effect that is that final straw for Anna (Tegan Mordt). Maya insists it’s untrue, that the teenager was just infatuated, and clips of the girl talking to camera certainly support that impression – but the fact that a different student is flirting with Maya when Anna enters the room suggests that, at the very least, Maya is letting them get.

After Maid Marian is kidnapped by the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood must get a band of men together in order to save her. Many are reluctant, given that they are massively outnumbered by the Sheriff’s forces – but those that do join Robin will stop at nothing to defeat the bloodthirsty tyrant. Together, they hatch an audacious plan to penetrate the depths of the Sheriff’s castle and reclaim Robin’s true love.
The first thing that springs to mind, literally, when Robin Hood: The Rebellion starts is do we really need that much on-screen exposition for a film about Robin Hood? After all, we seem to get a new story of this English folklore legend...

To celebrate the home entertainment release of Robin Hood: The Rebellion, available on DVD and Digital HD 5th November, we have a copy of the DVD up for grabs, courtesy of Signature Entertainment! Thrilling swordplay, brutal action and gripping intrigue make this fresh take on Robin Hood a must-watch for fans of Game of Thrones and Vikings, as well as those with a taste for action classics like Die Hard and The Raid.
Ben Freeman (a favourite of Emmerdale fans) makes a terrific Robin Hood – a reckless, brave hero going up against insurmountable odds. James Oliver Wheatley, soon be seen in the smash hit TV series Vikings, is a standout as the villainous and eminently hissable Sheriff of Nottingham, while screen legend and star of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Brian Blessed steals the show in the role of Friar Tuck.
