‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Alum Jason Antoon Shares Clip Of Canceled Show’s Vacant Studio Lot
Image
A year after NCIS: Hawai’i ended its three-season run on CBS, the state’s film and TV industry continues to suffer a decline in business.

Jason Antoon, who played cyber intelligence specialist Ernie Malik on the police procedural spin-off, recently shared a video of the series’ vacant and overgrown Hollywood Film Studio, where shows like Lost (2004-’10), Hawaii Five-0 (2010-’20) and Magnum P.I. (2018-’24) also filmed.

“Hawaii Film Studios – Empty and full of weeds,” wrote Antoon, sharing the clip Friday on X.

Hawaii is an expensive location that is harder to fit into continuously trimmed TV budgets, especially in linear TV. Cost was among the factors for CBS’ decision to cancel NCIS: Hawai’i after three seasons, despite being the #12 most watched non-sports program on broadcast, averaging 7.8 million linear viewers and 10M multi-platform viewers (Live+35).

After the cancelation last April, Antoon wrote on Instagram, “This business is brutal and makes no sense.

6 broadcast TV cancellations in 2024 we're still salty about
Image
Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

The NCIS: Hawai’i fans still aren’t giving up.

Despite the show getting canceled midway through its third season, the fans want more.

As the season finale approached, the fans made a concerted effort to create online petitions and share their love of the show on social media.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work then, and CBS replaced NCIS: Hawai’i with NCIS: Origins in the same time slot.

NCIS: Origins is a new show set in 1991 that shows the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Mike Franks on the job.

But these NCIS: Hawai’i fans aren’t giving up yet.

#SaveNCISHawaii trends on social media

On Sunday, July 7, #SaveNCISHawaii was trending again on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Fans have shared notes, Gifs, images, and videos about their beloved show.

It’s amazing how dedicated this fan base has remained despite the road bumps they have experienced.

9 Reasons Why NCIS: Hawai'i's Season 3 Cancelation Was A Mistake
Image
NCIS: Hawai'i's cancelation broke a franchise record, making it the shortest-lived NCIS series ever. Special Agent Jane Tennant was the first female team lead, showcasing a unique and strong character. The loss of the relationship between Lucy Tara and Kate Whistler is a significant setback for the NCIS franchise.

While it's been over a month since the NCIS spinoff show was canceled, buzz continues to surround the cancelation of NCIS: Hawai'i before season 4. The island-based police procedural was a spinoff from the original NCIS show starring Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The flagship NCIS show has seen a lot of success with spinoffs throughout the years, beginning with the launch of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2009. Unfortunately, the cancelation of NCIS: Hawai'i has broken a franchise record, becoming the short-lived NCIS series ever.

The cast of NCIS: Hawai'i included Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills...

9 Network TV Shows That Are Ending For Good This Month
Image
Budget cuts led to the cancellation of beloved TV shows like NCIS: Hawai'i, leaving fans disappointed but understanding. The abrupt endings of shows like CSI: Vegas and Evil surprised audiences, highlighting the impact of scheduling conflicts on network TV. Despite cancellations, fans can explore new storylines in planned spinoffs like the one focusing on the character Georgie from Young Sheldon.

While cancellations are common on network television, these TV shows are unfortunately coming to an end this month. May 2024 marks the conclusion of several beloved series, some of which have been staples on our screens for years, while others are relatively new but have still managed to capture the hearts of many. The reasons behind these cancellations vary, from network budget cuts and scheduling conflicts to creative decisions and the natural progression of a show's storyline.

Regardless of the cause, saying goodbye to a favorite series can be an emotional experience,...

A Relationship For 1 NCIS Character Could Make Up For The Franchise's Massive NCIS: Hawai'i Loss
Image
A potential romance for Kasie in NCIS season 22 could fill the gap left by the canceled NCIS: Hawai'i, providing a fresh storyline. Kasie's character brings LGBTQ+ representation to the franchise and her love life is set to play a bigger role in future episodes. LGBTQ+ representation in the NCIS franchise has been lacking, but characters like Kasie can help provide a more inclusive portrayal.

Content Warning: the following article contains discussions of suicide and suicidal ideation

A relationship for one NCIS character could make up for the massive loss of NCIS: Hawai'i. The island-based spinoff was canceled last month just before the season 3 finale, leaving fans with a cliffhanger for Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J), Kai Holman (Alex Tarrant), Ernie Malik (Jason Antoon), and Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami). NCIS: Hawai'i Stars Have Emotional Farewell Reunion Following Season 4 Cancellation
Image
The NCIS: Hawai'i cast has already held a touching reunion. The cast met on a beach at sunset and proclaimed their love for each other and Hawai'i. The reunion comes shortly after CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai'i season 4.

While the story of NCIS: Hawai'i is over, its cast remains as close as ever. The show began in 2021 as an NCIS spin-off and starred Vanessa Lachey as NCIS' first female lead, Jane Tennant. As a procedural, Hawai'i followed a team of Naval Investigators solving crimes in Hawai'i. Unfortunately, CBS canceled the show after season 3, and Lachey has been campaigning for its return ever since.

The NCIS: Hawai'i cast was surprised by the news of the show's cancelation, but that hasn't stopped the team from reuniting to celebrate the show's legacy. Lachey posted a now-expired Instagram story, which TVLine managed to capture, featuring the cast reuniting on a beach at sunset. Check...

NCIS: Hawai’i cast members gather to say goodbye

The NCIS: Hawai’i cast formed a strong bond while filming that they don’t want to let go.

Key cast members shared beautiful photos from a beach where they said goodbye to each other and the series.

CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai’i recently, ending the series after three strong seasons.

Despite a fan petition to save the series, the network pushed on with a Fall 2024 schedule that doesn’t include the NCIS spin-off.

Instead, NCIS: Origins takes over on Monday nights, with the prequel series set to debut after episodes from NCIS Season 22.

Vanessa Lachey recently returned to Hawai’i to ponder what had happened, and she even apologized to her cast and crew for not getting a proper goodbye.

‘NCIS: Hawaiʻi’ Series Finale Breakdown: [Spoiler] Shows Up, Leaving the Show Ending on a Major Cliffhanger
Image
The sun has set on “NCIS: Hawai’i,” leaving the show on a wild cliffhanger.

The series, which ran on CBS for three seasons, said its final aloha on Monday night with a season finale-turned-series finale.

At the end of last week’s episode, the Compound X bioweapon was in the hands of the nefarious Dr. Annalise Cruz (Rachel Mars), the late Alexi Volkoff’s assistant. She also aimed to take out the NCIS Elite team, to the horror of Sam Hanna (LL Cool J).

The episode opens with Sam risking exposing himself to Compound X in order to save his team — a heroic but potentially fatal move that his teammates stop him from doing.

From there, Jesse Boone (Noah Mills) and Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) work to find Cruz, also known as Tala Flores, and save the day. Sam is also chasing her but coughing a lot, eventually falling and confirming mild Compound X exposure.

NCIS' Rocky Carroll Is Right About Hawai'i Spinoff Cancellation & Actor's Return
Image
Characters from NCIS: Hawai'i could cross over to other NCIS shows following the show's cancelation. Jane Tennant's story should continue beyond Hawai'i's abrupt finale for a satisfying closure. CBS likely canceled NCIS: Hawai'i due to production costs and subaverage ratings.

NCIS: Hawai'i is coming to an end following its season 3 finale, but as one NCIS actor suggested, the last episode doesn't have to be the end for those characters. With only two episodes left in season 3, CBS abruptly announced that it had canceled the police procedural television series, meaning that the season finale doubles as the series finale. No one was prepared for the cancelation, so, Vanessa Lachey's Jane Tennant, Alex Tarrant's Kai Holman, Noah Mills' Jesse Boone, and more may not get the closure they deserve (and NCIS: Hawai'i's overarching story won't get a satisfying ending).

The series finale of NCIS: Hawai'i, "Divided We Conquer,...

NCIS: Hawai'i Just Broke An Unwanted Franchise Record
Image
NCIS: Hawai'i's cancellation sets a record as the shortest-lived franchise show, ending after just 3 seasons and 10 episodes. Despite mixed reviews, the Aloha State crime drama continues to follow the NCIS formula with a dedicated team led by Special Agent Jane Tennant. CBS decision to cancel NCIS: Hawai'i after season 3 remains a mystery, leaving fans disappointed and questioning the network's motives.

Before NCIS: Hawai'i's season 3 finale, CBS decided to cancel the series. As a result, the Aloha State-set police procedural has set a new NCIS franchise record. Much like its parent series, NCIS: Hawai'i follows a fictional team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents. Led by Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), the team operates out of the Pearl Harbor Field Office, often tackling investigations that relate to national security. The fourth series in the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Hawai'i was co-created by Christopher Silber, who also executive produced the 7-season NCIS: New Orleans.

Why I'm Disappointed NCIS: Hawai'i Was Canceled Before Season 4
Image
CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai'i after season 3, assumingly due to production costs, ratings, and competition within the NCIS franchise. The show ending prematurely will not provide fans with the closure they deserve. NCIS: Hawai'i offered a distinctive perspective as the first series in the franchise solely led by a female character and intriguing cases in a unique setting.

NCIS: Hawai'i will end following its season 3 finale, and its cancelation is upsetting due to several factors. The CBS police procedural television series, created by Christopher Silber, Jan Nash, and Matt Bosack, is the fourth installment in the NCIS franchise and the third NCIS spin-off overall. As the title suggests, the show takes place in Hawai'i, and it follows the Pearl Harbor Field Office branch of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey. Unfortunately, NCIS: Hawai'i's story was seemingly not meant to...

NCIS: Hawaii Season 4 Not Happening As CBS Cancels Spinoff
Image
CBS cancels NCIS: Hawai'i while season 3 is still airing. The series finale of the show will premiere on May 6. The NCIS franchise will still go on strong with the original show, two spinoffs, and a prequel still set to air.

NCIS: Hawai'i will be going off the air. The CBS show, which is currently airing season 3, was the third spinoff of the long-running procedural crime drama NCIS, which itself was a spinoff of Jag. Season 3 had a reduced count of 10 episodes, as production began late in the wake of the resolution of the 2023 writer and actor strikes.
