There has been renewed interest in Dexter thanks to streaming on Netflix along with spin-offs like Dexter: New Blood and, more notably, the recently released prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Fans who watched the original back when it first debuted on Showtime might be floored to learn that it has been almost 20 years since Dexter premiered back in 2006 and became one of the most popular shows of the 2000s.

In those two decades, it’s easy to forget a lot of small details about the show. There are pivotal plot points, of course, that no one can forget. Jennifer Carpenter has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Debra Morgan in the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection. The actress, who played the character in the original Dexter series and later returned in Dexter: New Blood, addressed the speculation while attending the premiere of 1923 Season 2.

Dexter is getting another sequel series, and several familiar characters from the original series will be joining Michael C. Hall in the new show. However, fans shouldn't count on seeing Jennifer Carpenter making her return as Dexter's late sister, Debra Morgan.

After Carpenter's Deb was killed off in the original Dexter, she returned in the show's first sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, when her brother continued to have visions of her as his moral guide. That left the door open for a way to bring Carpenter back for Resurrection as well, even with her character deceased. However, per People, Carpenter has suggested that her run playing Deb in the Dexter universe has come to an end. While she feels like she's "completed that box" personally, she also wished the Resurrection team well, happy that the franchise continues to live on.

Young Dexter Morgan will experience a “defining moment” during the season finale of Dexter: Original Sin, teases Patrick Gibson, adding that “something will shape him into the Dexter that fans know.”

The Irish actor plays the titular character in the prequel series. Set in 1991 Miami, Original Sin follows the 20-year-old version of Michael C. Hall‘s iconic serial killer as he begins working at the Miami Metro Police Department as a forensic intern. With the help of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter begins to direct his bloodthirsty urges toward those who deserve to be eliminated from society.

Hall serves as the inner voice of Dexter’s younger self. Other cast members include Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, Christina Milian as María Laguerta, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya Martin.

Rlje Films' new comedy slasher film Bloody Axe Wound is heading to Shudder, the horror-focused streaming platform. This follows the theatrical release of the movie in December 2024.

Shudder has announced that Bloody Axe Wound is set to start streaming exclusively on the platform on March 21, 2025. Written and directed by Matthew John Lawrence, the film features a special appearance from The Walking Dead: Dead City star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It's a role that the actor was all too happy to take on, as it gave him another opportunity to get violent — something he's proven himself to be quite capable of on-screen.

News that the next chapter in the Dexter franchise is coming just dropped earlier this month, and now an Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning actress is being added to the cast. Per Deadline, Uma Thurman will join Dexter: Resurrection as a series regular. Dexter: Resurrection will air on Paramount+ with Showtime plan.

The new sequel series, which is set in the present day, is a follow-up to Dexter: New Blood, and started filming in New York in January.
