Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman and Liana Liberato are back with more murder and mayhem in Based on a True Story season two. And this time, there’s a new pint-sized accessory in tow.

Based on a True Story is based on (or partly inspired by) a true story. The series, which satirizes true-crime tropes, introduced Cuoco and Messina as Ava and Nathan, a down-on-their-luck couple who crossed paths with an infamous serial killer, “The Westside Ripper,” in Los Angeles. Ava, a pregnant true-crime obsessive, suggested making a podcast with the killer as a way out of their marital rut.

Now, after the events of season one, season two opens with Ava and Nathan as new parents who attempt to now get out of the true-crime game — but, as the trailer shows, those aspirations are fleeting. The season opens on Ava and Nathan struggling to balance parenthood with waking away from their obsession.

The Tyler Perry series, Ruthless, includes a cast of talented actors, some of whom have been in Perry productions before and others new to the universe. Tyler Perry, creator of the Madea franchise of movies as well as many more TV shows and films, created Ruthless as a spinoff of The Oval, a BET political drama about the U.S. President and his family. Ruthless takes a much darker turn, starring Melissa Williams as Ruth Truesdale, a member of the dangerous and sexually exploitative Rakudushi cult.

When Ruth's daughter is also brought into the cult, Ruth comes to realize how awful it is and plans her escape. No lie: Peacock is ordering a second season of Based on a True Story.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has picked up the series, a comedic thriller from UCP and starring Kaley Cuoco (who also executive produces) and Chris Messina. The first season debuted in June and earned mostly favorable reviews; detailed viewing data is, per usual with streamers, not public, but the series did land in Nielsen’s top 10 rankings for the week of its premiere.

Book Club: The Next Chapter premiere

Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen and Don Johnson reunited at the premiere of the Book Club sequel on Monday in NYC.

Jennifer Lopez and the team behind “The Mother” are already thinking about a sequel.

“I think it would be ‘The Daughter,’” Lopez told me Wednesday night at the premiere of the new Netflix action thriller.

In the film, Lopez plays a former assassin who is pulled back into her deadly work when her 12-year-old daughter’s (Lucy Paez) life is put in danger.

Paez agreed. “The sequel will definitely be ‘The Daughter,’” the young actor said.

Not only does Lopez’s character kill at least a couple dozen men in the movie, but the actor’s impressive stunt work also includes motorcycle chases and gunfights while riding a snowmobile. “I was achy, but not hurt,” Lopez said. “I don’t think I’ve ever done an action movie like this. I do a lot of my own stunts because I’m athletic. But I have kids so I’m not going to risk anything.

Exclusive: Yvonne Senat Jones has been cast in a recurring role in the Disney+ Original series, The Crossover.

She will portray Janice, Filthy (Jalyn Hall) & Jb’s (Amir O’Neil) English teacher at Hughes Middle School. She’s a great teacher, and a close, supportive friend of their mom, Crystal (Sabrina Revelle).

The cast of Tyler Perry’s Ruthless on BET+ is growing and has set a date for the midseason premiere. Stevie Baggs, Jr., Colin McCalla, Samantha L. Thomas, Michelle Nunez, Alise Willis, and Jael Pettigrew are joining the drama as series regulars while three episodes will exclusively premiere on November 26 on the streaming platform with new episodes launching every Thursday.

As the season continues, many of the faithful followers have begun to uncover the evil that exists beneath the surface of the Rakudushis movement. Armed with this knowledge, Ruth and several new fearful cult members try to take control of their individual destinies. The attempts will prove to be almost impossible for anyone who does not have allies they think they can trust. Viewers will see more sex, lies, and murder in this cult that is living up to its fate. Ruth may be presumed dead on Tyler Perry’s The Oval, but that isn’t stopping the polarizing character from leading her own Bet+ spinoff — and soon.

Ruthless, which stars Melissa L. Williams in the title role, will kick off its 24-episode first season on Thursday, March 19, our sister site Deadline reports. Several episodes will be available to stream immediately, while subsequent installments will premiere on a weekly basis. This marks Perry’s first original series to stream on Bet+.

After just three airings, Tyler Perry‘s The Oval has proven such a success for Bet that the network has ordered a spinoff for its streaming service, our sister publication Variety reports — and even faithful fans of the over-the-top series may be surprised by which storyline the new show will focus on.

The spinoff, titled Ruthless, will follow the exploits of cult member Ruth (Melissa L. Williams), “as she’s forced to play nice with a scandalous religious cult of powerful sex-crazed fanatics in the hopes of freeing herself and her daughter,” according to the official logline.
