On January 1, 2024, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. Within the first three days of the year, we saw the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie, a trailer for the slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and an announcement that Terrifier 2 producers Steven Della Salla and Michael Leavy and director Steven Lamorte, who previously made the Grinch-inspired horror movie The Mean One, were teaming up for a Steamboat Willie-inspired horror flick that we now know as Screamboat. A horror reimagination of Aladdinis in the works. Disney's animated film, released in 1992, is based on the collection of Middle Eastern folktales, One Thousand and One Nights. Weaving magic and romance, the classic movie tells the tale of a young man who stumbles upon a magic oil lamp and unleashes a wish-granting genie, who assists him on a mission to protect the kingdom from being overthrown by an evil sorcerer.

According to Bloody Disgusting, B22 Films will bring a twisted version of Aladdin in two parts, featuring Aladdin and Aladdin's Revenge. The two-part saga, written and directed by Brett Bentman and produced by Tiffany McDonald, is expected to arrive in 2026, starring Devanny Pinn (Pretty Boy) and Billy Blair (One Day as a Lion), with production beginning in Oklahoma this month. A few months ago, we heard that director Bradley Stryker was about to go into production on a horror film called Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw – and now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that two more Aladdin horror films, completely separate from Stryker’s project, are in the works! Bloody Disgusting has learned that B22 Films will be bringing Aladdin into the world of horror with a two-part twisted take featuring upcoming films Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge.

We’re told that cameras start rolling in Oklahoma this month, with a 2026 release planned.

The twisted horror trend of beloved childhood characters turning into murderous figures carries on. Minnie Mouse is the latest Disney icon to trade in spreading cheer for a thirst for blood, thanks to copyright law. She joins the likes of Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Peter Pan, Bambi, and others in a growing public-domain horror genre. Per Deadline, filming on the low-budget slasher Minnie's Midnight Massacre has wrapped.

Written and directed by Brett Bentman (90 Feet From Home), this feature sees Minnie embarking on a "killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager." Hannah Huston (Stiletto) stars in the feature, and a first-look image reveals someone (who may or may not be Huston) donning a Minnie mask, complete with a blood-splattered white tulle skirt, and clutching a knife. In 2023, Rhys Frake-Waterfield wrote, directed, and produced Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. The slasher horror took one of the most famous childhood characters and turned it into a vicious killer.

After its immense success, a sequel followed one year later, and it later turned into a franchise. The Twisted Childhood Universe film series is expected to feature many beloved characters as terrifying, blood-thirsty killers, and now a new favorite has received their turn: Minnie. PerDeadline, Steamboat Willie's mate, Minnie, will be the new star of a low-budget horror movie, Minnie's Midnight Massacre.

With Disney’s animated short Steamboat Willie now in the public domain, horror filmmakers are free to do whatever they want with the characters. The most notable film of the bunch thus far is Screamboat starring David Howard Thornton as a killer Steamboat Willie, but it’s certainly not the only Mickey Mouse-inspired horror movie to come along in recent months.

But this next horror project to spawn from the public domain status of Steamboat Willie is taking a different approach. Minnie Mouse becomes a slasher in Minnie’s Midnight Massacre.

Deadline brings us a first look image from Minnie’s Midnight Massacre this week, announcing that filming just wrapped up last week on the upcoming low budget indie horror effort.

Director Brett Bentman’s film sees Steamboat Willie’s first mate, Minnie, go on a killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager.

Exclusive: Filming wrapped in the U.S. last week on low-budget horror movie Minnie’s Midnight Massacre, exec-produced by Winnie The Pooh Blood and Honey exec-producers Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland.

The film sees Steamboat Willie’s first mate, Minnie, go on a killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager.

Airplane 25 and Stiletto actress Hannah Hueston leads the cast. Producers are Tiffany McDonald and Derrick Redford. Brett Bentman is writer-director (90 Feet From Home).

ITN Distribution is handling sales on the movie, of which you can see a first-look image below.

Bentman told us: “We wanted to bring the black and white sidekick to life. We’d see Willie in all these reimaginings, but what about Minnie? Why not give her some spotlight?”

Bull Shark begins with an alarm going off and the local game warden Spencer Timms (Thom Hallum) holding his head. The empty beer cans on his nightstand explaining why. He proceeds to make himself a thermos full of coffee and vodka and heads off to work several hours late.

He’s barely there when Nolan (Billy Blair) calls. He’s got something he wants his buddy Spencer to see, a dead shark he plans on making a fortune from selling the teeth etc. Instead, he’s told to get rid of it since people will think there are sharks in the lake. Since, as well as being none too bright, he’s too lazy to properly dispose of it he dumps it into the lake. Unfortunately...

Dustin Rhodes has made his jump from WWE to Aew, and now the wrestler formerly known as Goldust is saddling up in indie western “Cutter Bill.”

In the film, Rhodes plays Mitchell White, the wisecracking partner of down-on-his-luck gambler Jessup Cross (Thom Hallum) in a scheme to find $80 million in hidden Texas drug money. The fabled fortune is said to be hidden on a ranch owned by Cutter Bill, a member of a crime syndicate known as the Cowboy Mafia. With Cutter Bill dead and gone, the duo head out to strike it rich and, in Jessup’s case, pay off a vicious bookie named The Indian that wants his head.

There’s just one problem: Jessup and Mitchell aren’t the only ones who know about the treasure.

Shawn Michaels is many things: a WWE legend, an actor, and a devout Christian. At times, a couple of those may not seem to jive together, something we asked the wrestling icon about ahead of his latest movie premiere.

In “90 Feet From Home,” which debuts Thursday night at Hollywood’s TLC Chinese Theater, Michaels plays a physically and emotionally abusive step-dad to a promising young baseball player. It’s a very un-Christian role, and Michaels had his doubts about accepting such gigs. But a fellow WWE Hall of Famer, who happens to also be an ordained minister, gave the Heartbreak Kid his blessing — and the rock-solid reasoning behind it.

“I’ve always been intrigued that, for whatever reason, when your life changes because of your faith, somehow you’re not allowed to act in a different way,” Michaels told TheWrap. “When I first got saved, I did struggle with it.

Shawn Michaels had some iconic WWE matches with The Undertaker. In the new movie “90 Feet From Home,” the retired wrestler may end up on the gurney of an actual undertaker.

In the film’s teaser trailer, which is exclusive to TheWrap, Michaels stars as the abusive father to a retired Major League Baseball player (Adam Hampton). Hampton’s character (who is described as “troubled”) returns to rural Texas to confront — and ultimately plot to kill — his dad.

Eric Roberts, Dean Cain, Thom Hallum, Steven Michael Quezada and Alexandria DeBerry also star.

For its 22nd year, Dances With Films returns to Los Angeles this June with an eclectic lineup of films both feature-length and short-form that span a wide range of genres.

Wild Eye Releasing runs rings around Mad Max this December with director Brett Bentman’s post-apocalyptic thriller Apocalypse Road. Billed as a mix of The Road and Fury Road, Bentman’s film chronicles the tense journey of two sisters separated during a post-apocalyptic depression.
