Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to “Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted,” a documentary about singer, songwriter and record producer Jerry Williams, aka Swamp Dogg, following the film’s world premiere at SXSW. The movie, which examines one of the major cult figures of 20th-century American music, was directed by Isaac Gale and Ryan Olson. It will be released in theaters on May 2.

After more than a decade of inspiring feature films, documentaries, books and podcasts, Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht will tell his story in an upcoming documentary he participated in from prison.
The project arrives as Ulbricht enjoys an improbable Hollywood ending. He was freed from federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, on Tuesday after receiving a pardon from President Donald Trump, a pledge Trump made in May at the Libertarian National Convention.
Ulbricht was sentenced to two life sentences, plus 40 years, after creating the illegal online drug market Silk Road, which was described as “the Amazon for Drugs.” According to the FBI, the site generated hundreds of millions in sales and made Ulbricht the subject of a dramatic manhunt, culminating in his arrest at a San Francisco library in 2013.
Despite the intense interest in his case, Ulbricht granted no interviews to the press following his 2015 conviction (he did send in a...

There are many Stephen King books for which the legendary author has written follow-ups, but some of his most notable titles, surprisingly, have yet to get sequels. Several of King's books have been expanded upon before, but their continuation may not necessarily count as a traditional sequel. For example, King's The Dark Tower books continue certain parts of 'Salem's Lot's narrative, but this series isn't technically a sequel.
Because there are numerous upcoming Stephen King movie and TV show adaptations, many avid readers are revisiting the King of Horror's bibliography. While some titles don't warrant a sequel, there are still plenty of others that deserve an extension and could benefit from elaboration upon the original story. Readers are keen to find out what happens to the characters next, and several King books could absolutely use a sequel.

The highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King's iconic horror novel, Salem's Lot, has finally landed on Max. Originally set for a theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the film was subjected to numerous delays due to Covid-related issues, which eventually led Warner Bros. to opt for an Ott release. The decision was also influenced by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which affected distribution, but fans nonetheless remained eager to see how the latest horror adaptation would turn out. However, the film proved to be a letdown for those who read the novel or watched the previous adaptations of the franchise.
Certainly, a Salem's Lot film can never achieve what the original novel could, but the most recent adaptation falls short in many aspects, making it one of the weakest entries in the franchise. So, what exactly went wrong, and why is it considered a flawed take on Stephen King's renowned horror story?

The following reveals spoilers for Salem's Lot, now streaming on Max.
Despite its brief running time, the new movie version of Stephen Kings Salems Lot pays huge attention to detail. That includes schoolteacher Matt Burke one of the storys most important figures who spends most of the film wearing a Boston Red Sox jacket. Its a common enough feature in New England, no matter what the era, and rooting for the Red Sox is as much a part of the region as lobster and harsh winters.
It goes deeper than that, however, and demonstrates how carefully the new movie recreates the original 1975 setting of the Salem's Lot. King himself ranks among the Red Soxs biggest boosters and has often included them in his work. To do otherwise would deny the regional culture for which his books are rightfully praised. Salems Lot doesnt want it to disrupt the story, but...

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Salem's Lot.The 2024 Salem's Lot adaptation takes a new approach to curing vampire bites with a rabies shot. While the Salem's Lot vampires can be killed, including when they are exposed to sunlight and when a wooden stake is thrust through their hearts, curing an individual who has already been bitten is another matter entirely. Danny Glick, Mike Ryerson, Matt Burke, and the other characters who are bitten become vampires and are unable to stop the infection from transforming them into deadly monsters.
The only exception to this is when Dr. Cody is bitten in the neck by the vampire Marjorie Glick, and she insists that Ben Mears and Susan Norton give her a rabies shot. The rabies shot surprisingly works, ensuring that Dr. Cody remains human, and alive and well, at least until she is shot and killed by Susan's mother,...

Warning: spoilers for 2024s Salems Lot.
After many delays and obstacles, the Salems Lot movie adaptation was finally released on Max, and it made a couple of changes to the book, including cutting one of the most disturbing deaths but replacing it with a brutal twist. Stephen Kings second published novel, Salems Lot, introduced readers to his type of vampires, becoming one of his most popular and beloved works. Salems Lot was adapted into two TV miniseries in 1979 and 2004, and it finally got a feature-length adaptation in 2024, directed by Gary Dauberman.

Rebooting classic horror movies has almost always invited extremely divisive reception, ranging from being appreciated like the Evil Dead reboots to getting hated on like the Halloween sequels. As a seminal piece of horror media, Salem’s Lot‘s TV series adaptation is still held in great regard, and as the recently released cinematic adaptation of the novel is streaming on Max, a comparative discussion involving these two ventures is inevitable. While the movie doesn’t hold a candle to the series, for better or worse, it follows the novel more closely. Both the adaptations take certain liberties when it comes to a number of crucial moments in the narrative, which either works or doesn’t, depending on the perspective of the viewers.

Warning! This article contains major Spoilers for Salem's Lot (2024)!Maxs new movie adaptation of Salems Lot is largely faithful to Stephen Kings 1975 book of the same name, but happens to leave out the most shocking reveals from the novels epilogue. Following the 1979 miniseries, 1987 film sequel, and 2004 miniseries, the cast of the 2024 Salems Lot movie reintroduces the classic Stephen King vampire story and characters on-screen to a new generation. However, with only a two-hour movie instead of a miniseries to tackle the harrowing tale of the titular town, it was inevitable that some key details would be cut or changed from the original book.
The 2024 Salems Lot movie ends with Mark Petrie and Ben Mears killing Kurt Barlow, the lead vampire who turned the majority of Jerusalems Lot into creatures of the night. After the deaths of Susan, Father Callahan, Marks parents, and Matt Burke, Ben and Mark are forced to...

The newest adaptation of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot has dropped on Max, and it's chock-full of Easter eggs and nods, both to the King of Horror and to the horror genre in general. The long-gestating adaptation was a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic and then the writer's strike, taking years to get to the screen. It adapts one of Stephen King's most beloved novels, and his first foray into the vampire genre, telling his own version of the Dracula story. The 2024 'Salem's Lot movie changes the book in significant ways but remains faithful to the spirit of the story.
Written and directed by Gary Dauberman, the new movie assembles a strong cast of character actors: Lewis Pullman (Ben Mears), Makenzie Leigh (Susan Norton), Jordan Preston Carter (Mark Petrie), Alfre Woodard (Dr. Cody), Bill Camp (Matt Burke), John Benjamin Hickey (Father Callahan), Nicholas Crovetti (Danny Glick), Spencer Treat Clark...

For horror fans, writer Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot and its 1979 TV series adaptation will always have a special place as one of the most influential pieces of modern-day vampire fiction, so naturally, a brand new cinematic entry based on the story seemed like the best way to kick off Spooktober this year. To my utter disappointment, not only did the cinematic adaptation turn out to be extremely generic, rushed, and all over the place, but it was extremely tough to keep track of events, as though the movie had been hacked to pieces while getting edited. The characters don’t gel with the audience, the dialogue feels less natural and more expository in nature, and even with contemporary CGI advancements, the horror vibe is nowhere near as good as the first TV series. While this adaptation of Salem’s Lot remains faithful to its source material in most cases, sometimes...

Released in 2024, Gary Dauberman’s Salem’s Lot presents a new cinematic telling of Stephen King’s legendary 1975 vampire novel. As a story exploring the sinister forces threatening a small Maine town, the source material has spawned multiple screen adaptations over the decades, most notably Tobe Hooper’s acclaimed 1979 TV miniseries.
In this latest film version, Dauberman—known for his work on horror films like Annabelle and It—aims to balance faithfulness to King’s chilling tale with enjoyable scares for modern audiences.

At this moment, it's hard to disconnect the new Salem's Lot from its nearly two-year release delay, during which many feared the film would never, ahem, see the light of day. That's an unfortunate situation. On the one hand, it clearly didn't deserve to sit on the shelf for so long, caught up in the leadership change at Warner Bros. On the other, it doesn't quite live up to the expectations that inevitably built as Stephen King pressured the studio to release it.

Gary Dauberman's "Salem's Lot" has had a bumpy ride. The Stephen King adaptation was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2022. Then it got delayed to 2023. Then it got pulled from the release calendar entirely. Since "Salem's Lot" is a Warner Bros. production, there was a growing fear that this vampire movie would go the way of WB's "Batgirl" and "Coyote vs. Acme" and never see the light of day. King got involved, taking to Twitter and pondering why the studio was sitting on the flick. "Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it's embarrassing, or anything," the master of horror said. Rumors eventually began to swirl that "Salem's Lot" might skip theaters entirely and go directly to WB's streaming service, Max. Sure enough, the studio finally announced that was the case: "Salem's Lot" is destined to stream on Max this October, just in time for Halloween season.

Revisiting an iconic work by Stephen King takes guts. It’s especially tough when the property has already been adapted by a fan-favorite director. Yet Salem’s Lot looks to do exactly that, reviving the vampire franchise for the first time in nearly twenty years. This time, the King property gets the feature film treatment, hoping to differentiate itself from the 1979 Tobe Hooper and 2004 Mikael Salomon mini-series events. While this Salem’s Lot looks great, the shorter runtime leaves it sprinting through the exposition. It becomes a problem despite moments of brilliance.

Vampires are a staple of Stephen King's books, not just in Salem's Lot but also in his broader universe, and the 2024 movie looks to expand on the lore. Salem's Lot tells the story of writer Ben Mears, who returns to his childhood hometown of Jerusalem's Lot to finish his novel, hoping that the old abandoned Marsten House that gave him nightmares as a child will help inspire him. However, he soon finds that the town he once knew is slowly being infiltrated by a creeping evil that is transforming the townspeople.

Salems Lot movie director Gary Dauberman shared his appreciation for Stephen Kings significant support towards New Line Cinemas upcoming supernatural horror adaptation. This marks the second time that Dauberman has adapted one of Kings acclaimed novels, after previously writing the screenplays for 2017s It movie and 2019s It Chapter Two.

"Im extremely thankful for Steves support," Dauberman said. "Lets just say it provided some shock support for some of the more bumpy portions of this journey and leave it at that." Before moving to Max, the film was originally meant to be released in theaters. However, due to multiple release delays, it was ultimately removed from Warner Bros. theatrical schedule. At last, Salem’s Lot is ready to rise again.
New Line Cinema remake of Stephen King’s classic 1975 vampire novel has been given a premiere date on Max.
The film from Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun) writes, directs and executive produces the film, which was originally intended for theaters and was given a 2022 release date. The film was then delayed to 2023, and then was taken off the schedule amid reports that Warner Bros. was looking to release the film on Max due to the streamer’s growing need for content.
In recent weeks, King has tweeted about the film’s mysterious delay “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new Salem’S Lot and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.

Being away from home allows room for perspective, and for a group of U.S.-based documentary experts who made the trip to Cannes, the glass remains half full, despite the headwinds. The closure of Participant, Showtime Docs, CNN Films scaling back and belt-tightening across the board have led many to posit that a Golden Age of documentary films has ended. A discussion in the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival begged the question: If the Golden Age is over, what comes next?
For the assembled speakers, there was an acceptance of the challenges, but also a desire to take a long view and to look to the future.
“With the market retracting and some distribution outlets not being replaced by others, we’re forced to be creative again about how we get these films out to market, how we find audiences,” said Cinetic Media’s Jason Ishikawa during the Deadline-hosted panel.

Kino Lorber has picked up U.S. rights to Johan Grimonprez’s Sundance-winning documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, which traces how the U.S. used “Jazz Ambassadors” like Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone and Duke Ellington, to build goodwill during the Cold War all while orchestrating clandestine operations to destabilize the Congo.

Stephen King fans, rejoice! The fate of the film adaptation of "Salem's Lot" has been up in the air over the past couple years, despite revealing footage from the project at CinemaCon back in 2022. Not even Stephen King himself knew what was going on with the film's potential release, though he wasn't shy about singing the praises of the movie from filmmaker Gary Dauberman, the director of "Annabelle Comes Home" and co-writer of "It" and sole writer of "It: Chapter Two." Thankfully, fans no longer have to ask when they'll be able to see the new "Salem's Lot" movie, because we finally have an idea of when it will be released. But it won't be in theaters.
Max has officially announced that "Salem's Lot" will debut on the streaming service sometime in 2024. They didn't give a specific release date or even a season of the release, but at least the...

Well, Mr. King, here’s your answer: the newest version of horror maestro Stephen King’s novel “Salem’s Lot” is coming out this year. Sometime. On streaming.
After initially being expected to hit theaters, New Line’s film adaptation of King’s 1975 bestselling novel “Salem’s Lot” will debut on Max in 2024, the streamer announced today. As for when in 2024, we still don’t know, and as for what this thing will even look like, still no answer there, as today’s announcement came without any sort of handy-dandy still to round out the news.
The film was first announced in 2019 and was shot way back in 2021. Last month, King himself took to Twitter (X?) to publicly wonder where the heck the film was. “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new ‘Salem’s Lot’ and it’s quite good,” King wrote on social media. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build,...

Some good news, ladies and gents – it appears as though the long-shelved big-screen adaption of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here) won’t be deleted after all. Variety just broke the news that New Line and Warner Bros will put the movie out on its Max streaming service this year. While this was widely anticipated, in recent months, the buzz had turned pretty dark, with it heavily rumored that WB would be taking a loss on the film and deleting it, which is what they did with Batgirl. The Looney Tunes/live-action mash-up Coyote vs Acme seems to be going that way as well (unless John Cena’s comic performance at the Oscar swayed anyone).
This is the third adaptation of Salem’s Lot. The previous two were both mini-series, which aired in 1979 and 2004. This new take on the concept is said to be set...
