Sunrise Films and Vertigo Releasing will bring Samuel Clemens’ debut feature The Drowned to digital platforms this autumn, unleashing a seaside terror rooted in Greek mythology. The film follows three art thieves who, having stolen a priceless painting, retreat to a remote coastal safe house only to discover their fourth accomplice is nowhere to be found. As suspicions mount that one of them may be responsible, an unseen presence stirs beneath the waves, turning their refuge into a prison of dread.
The Drowned premiered at London’s FrightFest Halloween earlier this year under its original title The Waterhouse. It stars Alan Calton – fresh from Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning – as the heist’s ringleader, joined by Lara Lemon of War of the Worlds: The Attack and Lily Catalifo from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Dominic Vulliamy of BBC One’s Rules of the Game appears as a suspicious accomplice,...

"Got to hand it to her. It's remote. Creepy... but remote." Doesn't seem that creepy, does it? Sunrise Films & Vertigo Releasing have unveiled an official trailer for The Drowned, an indie UK horror film marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Samuel Clemens. The film, formerly known as The Waterhouse, first premiered in London at FrightFest Halloween in 2023 and will be out on VOD starting in October this fall (in the US & UK). After pulling off a major art heist, three men arrive at a secluded coastal safe house to discover their fourth accomplice is missing. Woven with references to Greek mythology, they must now figure out if the blame lies with a more sinister presence lurking in the deep water... Starring Alan Calton, Dominic Vulliamy, Lara Lemon, Lily Catalifo, and Corrinne Wicks.

There are plenty of reasons that murder mysteries are generally very popular. They can be made relatively cheaply, they can go straight to streaming/TV or on the big screen and a lot of people like watching them, whether it’s ‘background viewing’ or a more concentrated watch. Blackwater Lane ticks many of these boxes, both good and bad.
The murder mystery part seems pretty simple at first, as late one night a woman drives by a stranded motorist who is later revealed to be murdered. However a series of events lead the woman to believe that she might be the next victim.
At times, this does feel like a very run-of-the-mill, channel 5-style drama/murder mystery. It just runs through so many of the...

Minka Kelly leads the cast in Blackwater Lane, bringing to life Cass Anderson, a drama teacher struggling to understand disturbing events unfolding around her. Adapted from B.A. Paris’s novel The Breakdown, the film follows Cass down a twisting path of supernatural mysteries and unraveling mental health.
Dermot Mulroney and Maggie Grace co-star as Cass’s husband and best friend, their performances deepening the intricate narrative. Set in a sprawling English countryside manor, the film weaves psychological thrillers with supernatural elements.
Director Jeff Celentano builds tension through the lush yet unsettling backdrop. Viewers are drawn into Cass’s deteriorating mental state as uncanny occurrences disrupt her life. Meanwhile, Minka Kelly’s emotionally powerful portrayal anchors the movie in grounded psychological drama.
The film also probes timely themes of trauma and gaslighting through Cass’s experiences. While not without flaws, Blackwater Lane remains an engaging mystery that borders on horror. Overall,...

The shoreline – whether seen from land or sea – has always had a special status in the minds of storytellers. It’s a liminal space, full of unknown dangers, yet it’s also alluring, full of promise. It makes the perfect setting for an encounter between three men fleeing a complicated past in search of a more prosperous future, as they are forced to linger there in a safehouse which is anything but.
There is supposed to be a fourth person present – Denice, the mother of Matt (Dominic Vulliamy). Before Matt arrives, his older boyfriend, Eric (Alan Calton), explores the house and its surroundings, finding a bloodied bracelet which belonged to Denice – but perhaps because he is afraid of Matt freaking out and upsetting their carefully laid plans, he throws it into the sea. When the remaining member of the gang, Paul (Michelangelo Fortuzzi) arrives, the three of them begin...

When ex-soldier turned mercenary, John Gold (Bennett), learns of the murder of his best friend, he sets off on a mission to find out what happened. What he discovers is a sinister conspiracy and he sets about taking down those responsible one by one.
Since parting ways with the WWE, former superstar Stu Bennett (aka Wade Barrett) has turned his hand to a career as a movie hard man. First as the villain in the fantastic Scott Adkins movie Eliminators and now here in Vengeance – where he takes on a more heroic role. Well I say hero, but it’s more in the sense of a vengeful, single-minded anti-hero in the grand revenge-seeking tradition of Charles Bronson.
