Even President Donald Trump is weighing in on the new Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ads that have taken the internet by storm.
Sweeney and American Eagle recently launched a partnership that includes a slew of advertisements featuring the actress. These ads have caught lots of people’s attention, including the president.
Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz weighed in, saying, “Wow. The crazy left has come out against beautiful women.”
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘Hottest’ ad out there,” President Trump said. “It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em, Sydney!”
The president went on to describe how “woke” ads are foolish and don’t appeal to the masses.
While many fans love the new ad campaign, it has its fair share of critics.
In the ad, Sweeney says, “My jeans are blue” as the camera pans to her blue eyes.

Actor, film producer, and singer Kelsey Grammer has had a lot of fans questioning one major thing about his political stance: Is he a Republican? Turns out, he is, considering how the 70-year-old star has been a longtime supporter of the right-wing US Republican Party.
Back in 2011, he endorsed the Tea Party movement on economic issues like small government and lower taxes while talking to Piers Morgan, saying (via CNN):
I’m sympathetic to some of the principles,” he said of the tea party. “I’m not sure they would say anything I object to. I’ve just been told they’re lunatics…I think smaller government is a good idea, always have. I think lower taxes is a good idea.
Not to mention, even City A.M. described the Frasier star as “one of Hollywood’s best-known Republicans, a rare spark of red in a blue sea of Democrats.

Few picture books capture the essence of childhood quite like Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham. With less than 65 pages, the iconic story repeats one phrase throughout — “I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them, Sam-i-Am.”
If you remember flipping through it at school, hearing it read aloud at bedtime, or even discovering it as your first real introduction to literature, you’re not alone.

Keeping a straight face has been perhaps the greatest achievement of Mark Carney’s brief tenure as the prime minister of Canada. For months, Donald Trump has railed against Canada, threatening to turn America’s ungrateful northern neighbor into the 51st state, come what may, an achievement worthy of his visage gracing Mount Rushmore — in the same way Trump will annex Greenland, reclaim the Panama Canal, free Brazil’s corrupt former President Jair Bolsonaro, repeal the laws of climate change and gravity, and then impose tariffs on all of America’s nefarious trading partners,...

After staying notably silent about her highly controversial ad campaign for American Eagle, Sydney Sweeney has returned to the public eye, making her first appearance since the avalanche of backlash she received.
In Los Angeles on Sunday, Sweeney stepped out for a red carpet screening of her film, Americana. The actress donned a champagne-colored corset gown, complemented by a flowing tulle skirt and a lemon-yellow headband.
Social media fans were quick to voice their dislike for the outfit, joking that Sweeney’s stylist had a vendetta against her after finding out that Sweeney is a registered Republican in Florida, or that the actress has “bad fashion genes.”
Distaste for Sweeney’s fashion statement follows mounting backlash for her recent ad campaign with American Eagle, which many have branded as “nazi propaganda”. One person yelled at Sweeney as she entered the event, “Stop the ad, that is being racist!”

Sydney Sweeney is facing immense backlash for her recent ad campaign with American Eagle, drawing criticism so wide that even White House representatives have weighed in.
In 2023, Sweeney sparked a debate when she posted photos of her family members wearing Maga hats.
One part of the campaign features Sweeney posing in American Eagle apparel while making a pun that plays on the words “jeans” and “genes.”
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring,” Sweeney began the American Eagle ad in a sultry voice.
“Often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color,” she continued while zipping up her pair of jeans.
She concluded the ad with “My jeans are blue,” which could also be interpreted as “genes.”
Many users on social media have pointed out that the ad resembles Brooke Shields’ controversial 80s Calvin Klein ads, which she has openly regretted making at the age of 15.

Senators could vote on a bill as soon as today to allow members of Congress and their staff to demand that websites take down information about their houses and details about their travel.
Watchdogs and media advocates have objected to the member security legislation and similar measures in the past, arguing the provisions would block reporters from doing their jobs and prevent necessary accountability.
The legislation was introduced by Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Republican and Democratic congressional leaders are fast-tracking the bill, according to an internal Senate communication transmitted Wednesday.

Just days after publicly debunking the idea that “Parks and Recreation” character Ron Swanson would have voted for Donald Trump, Nick Offerman channeled his old character once more on Tuesday night, hitting up “The Daily Show” to call out the president’s continued defunding of national parks.
“I have several undeniable loves in my life,” Offerman prefaced. “The oaky notes of a barrel-aged whiskey, an old-fashioned plumb bob dangling over a red cedar plank, my blushing bride’s hoo-ha, and of course, America’s national parks.”
That’s why, he explained, it pains him to see those parks having their staffs and funding cut. According to one news clip, scientists now have to help clean toilets at said parks.
“This is a huge mistake. No scientist has the strength to clean the skid marks of a man who’s been eating beans and campfire hot dogs for the past three days!

The tragedy in Texas in the aftermath of recent floods was a discussion during Hot Topics on the Tuesday, July 8, episode of The View. The conversation began with moderator Whoopi Goldberg pointing out, “The flood doesn’t care who you voted for. Floods don’t care. They take your house, they take your family. This is what we’ve seen. Questions are growing about what we could’ve done to prevent this tragedy.” She then played a clip of Senator Ted Cruz saying, “There have been some eager to point at the National Weather Service and say cuts there led to lack of warning. I think that’s contradicted by facts. For either side to attack political opponents, I think that’s cynical and not the right approach when we’re dealing with crisis and grief.” Goldberg then opened the discussion up to her cohosts by asking, “These safety concerns...

The Senate struck a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that would have prohibited states from regulating AI for the next decade.
Lawmakers voted 99-1 early Tuesday morning to strike the provision, with Sen. Thom Tillis (R-Nc) the only senator voting no.
The provision would have prevented states from passing new AI laws or enforcing those on the books. That included the Elvis Act, a Tennessee law passed last year to give individuals a right of publicity to control the use of their voice and likeness.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-tn) has said that she opposed the AI moratorium, warning it would hobble its state’s efforts to protect the creative community and other steps aimed at children and families. A compromise with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) carved out exceptions and reduced the moratorium to five years, but it still raised concerns that state laws could still be restricted.

Update: Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-tn) backed away from a compromise on a key provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that restricts states from regulating Al.
Blackburn and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) had reached on a compromise on the AI moratorium that reduced its length from 10 to five years, and allowed for state laws and regulations that have to do with “unfair or deceptive acts or practices, child online safety, child sexual abuse material, rights of publicity, protection of a person’s name, image, voice, or likeness.”
But after the new language was unveiled, it was met with some skepticism, with some opponents of the moratorium pointing to a provision that it would still restrict state laws that place “undue or disproportionate burden” on AI.

Donald Trump’s signature piece of legislation, the One Beautiful Bill Act, will be able to retain a provision that prohibits states from regulating artificial intelligence over the next 10 years.
Under the current language in the bill, states would lose out on federal broadband funding if they enforce such laws.
The Senate parliamentarian ruled last week that the AI provision in the Senate version of the legislation does not have to be subject to a rule that otherwise would require a 60-vote threshold.
Republicans are going through a process called reconciliation in order to pass the massive tax and funding package by a simply majority in the Senate, or without any Democratic votes. But the provisions in the legislation has to do with spending and revenue, so the Senate’s parliamentarian issues guidance on what can and cannot be included.
Even though the provision remains in the legislation, some GOP senators are opposed to it.

As most of us are aware of by now, Texas Senator Ted Cruz recently sat for a combative interview with performance artist Tucker Carlson. In an exchange that no doubt sparked countless uses of the ClickHole-inspired “Worst Person You Know Just Made a Great Point” meme, Carlson got Cruz to admit that he doesn’t know the population of Iran, despite hawkishly suggesting that the U.S. government should bomb the country and spearhead a regime change.
After being publicly embarrassed by the guy who once complained that cartoon M&Ms don’t give him boners anymore, Cruz fought back by posting an image from Monty Python and the Holy Grail on his social media account. Specifically, it's from the scene where the Bridgekeeper, played by Terry Gilliam, asks King Arthur to name “the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.”

Jimmy Fallon is totally, completely, 100% Ok with President Trump taking two weeks to decide if the U.S. will attack Iran.
“All good, no rush, just take your time,” Fallon sarcastically said on Thursday night while hosting “The Tonight Show.” “If Trump thinks about this decision for two weeks, it’ll beat his previous thinking record by two weeks.”
Last week, Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran, targeting the country’s military and nuclear facilities. This attack came as Iran and the U.S. were in the middle of negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Iran has already retaliated to the attack, launching a series of missiles at Israeli military centers and cities. It’s still unclear what involvement the U.S. will have in this escalating war.
On Thursday, Fallon had several more jokes about the escalation between the two countries. “Summer is here, and the heat is already brutal.

It’s rare to witness a political exchange so strikingly unguarded that it feels more like an unscripted confrontation than a calculated debate. If political discourse were a boxing ring, then the slugfest between Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz would be the kind of match that leaves you breathless, bewildered, and vaguely ashamed for watching it ten times.
During an interview on Carlson’s podcast, Cruz was met with a series of basic yet unanswerable questions about the very nation he wishes to confront. Carlson’s interrogation was relentless, and Cruz’s faltering responses were startling in their emptiness. The fallout rippled across the media landscape, with NBC’s Seth Meyers offering perhaps the most cutting commentary: a mock sequel to Alien vs. Predator.

The confrontation stunned many, but “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin was largely unmoved by it on Wednesday morning’s episode.
The contentious clip led the ABC talk show’s Hot Topics for the day, with moderator Whoopi Goldberg immediately tossing the discussion to Alyssa. And for her part, she mostly just gave Carlson the equivalent of a “whoop-de-doo.”
“Listen, I have to say, I’m not gonna cheer Tucker Carlson because, [for] the first time in 10 years, he made one good point,” she said. “This is one of the most malignant forces in our political discourse.”
“He might as well be the spokesperson for Moscow,” she continued. “He’s a stooge for Vladimir Putin who does not exist in facts,...

Stephen A. Smith has become the latest target of “The Daily Show,” with the late night program releasing a new biofilm mocking the sports television personality for his various on-air takes.
The nearly 7-minute video, titled “Stephen A. Smith: Greatest of All Take-Havers,” starts with a look at his childhood, with Smith saying he was born in the Bronx and raised in Queens with the “greatest mom in the world.”
“That’s right, every other mom in the world is a scrub. I don’t care if your mother, Theresa, or that hot mom from The Brady Bunch,” Craig Kilborn says in a voice narration. “Those moms should be riding the bench behind Janet Smith.”
It proceeds to jump forward Smith’s enrollment at the Fashion Institute of Technology, which Kilborn said “might not have greatest tradition of sports” but “definitely had a playoff.”

Jon Stewart weighed in on the Los Angeles protests in opposition to Donald Trump’s escalation of Ice deportations, saying the tactic is to distract from the tit-for-tat feud between him and Elon Musk, in which the tech titan accused him of being in the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Is your city ever not on fire? Whether you win a basketball championship, a World Series championship, whether you have an exploding piñata gender reveal gone wrong — congratulations, it’s a boy and an evacuation — or you’re just protesting the Trump administration’s expanded deportation raids, L.A. continues to be our most flammable city,” Stewart began during tonight’s installment of The Daily Show.
Commenting specifically on the autonomous vehicles that were set on fire during some of the demonstrations, Stewart quipped: “Took five of them before you were like, ‘Should we stop sending the Waymos?'” He added jokingly,...

Elon Musk’s insults toward Donald Trump left the president “dejected” and “rattled,” The Washington Post reported today. Now it’s apparently Trump’s turn to trash his former ally, saying he will not make amends.
Musk’s departure from the Trump administration was announced last week after Trump pulled his nomination for Musk’s ally, Jared Isaacman, to lead NASA. Musk then made the feud public when he began dumping on Trump’s tax bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” A Trump administration official said they are “taking away Elon’s friends,...

A jury convicted a former Republican political strategist on two counts of stalking Friday after prosecutors alleged that Daniel Duffey sent harassing text messages and letters to the victim and his family, the Montana Free Press reported. In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s morbidly authoritarian return to the White House, several members of the Democratic Party elite have been pitching plans and multimillion-dollar ideas for how to win back young male voters, many of whom spurned Democrats last fall.

Country singer Martina McBride is the latest entertainer to testify on Capitol Hill on the need for proposed legislation to protect individuals voices and likenesses from unauthorized use, including in AI deepfakes.
A coalition of unions and guilds, studios and record labels are pushing for passage of the No Fakes Act, which gives individuals the right to authorize the use of their voice and likeness in digital replication.
At a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing this afternoon, McBride warned that without action, the livelihoods of younger artists could be at risk and established performers like her would face damage to their reputations.
In her own case, she pointed to her works that touch on problems like domestic violence.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is currently among the Republicans who are not supportive of President Donald Trump accepting a luxury jet from Qatar to serve as the new Air Force One. Although, Seth Meyers won’t be surprised if Cruz changes his tune — especially if Trump extends an invite onto the plane.
The NBC host devoted his entire “A Closer Look” segment on Wednesday to Trump’s latest move, once again playing several supercuts of both Republicans and the president himself previously raging about the idea of Democrats taking money from foreign governments.
But, now that it’s Trump accepting a major gift — one that he will get to continue using once he leaves office — they’re more Ok with it. Well, except for Ted Cruz.
“I also think the plane poses significant espionage and surveillance problems, so we’ll see how this issue plays out, but I certainly have concerns,...

Legislators think it’s getting too hard for audiences to watch games with the continued fragmentation of sports rights.
Tonight’s NBA playoff game is on Max, but what about tomorrow night? Is the opening NFL game of the season exclusive to Peacock or Prime Video? Increasingly, sports fans are being forced to ask these questions, as streaming services get more and more access to sports rights that were once exclusively available on linear TV. League executives from across the sports world were called in front of Congress this week to discuss the growing fragmentation of their rights, and senators made it clear that they were keeping an eye on the issue of fan access.
Key Details: What about the fans?: Sen. Ted Cruz pointed out that fans should get something in return for the special treatment sports leagues get. Lock it up: Sen. Bernie Moreno advised leagues to...

President Donald Trump is expected to sign a bill heading to his desk that bans the publication of non-consensual images, including revenge porn and AI deepfakes.
The Take It Down Act requires social media platforms to remove such images within 48 hours after getting notice. The bill makes it a crime to knowingly publish such non-consensual intimate visual depictions.
The legislation overwhelming passed the House on Monday in a 409-2 vote. It passed unanimously in the Senate in February.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Mn), lead sponsor of the Senate bill with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx), said in a statement, “We must provide victims of online abuse with the legal protections they need when intimate images are shared without their consent, especially now that deepfakes are creating horrifying new opportunities for abuse.” Cruz said. “By requiring social media companies to take down this abusive content quickly, we are sparing victims from repeated trauma and holding predators accountable.

Senate and House lawmakers Wednesday reintroduced legislation that will give individuals the right to control the use of their digital likeness, as part of an effort to limit the use of AI deepfakes and voice clones.
The No Fakes Act was introduced last year but failed to advance in Congress even with bipartisan support and changes that alleviated First Amendment worries.
The legislation gives individuals the right to authorize the use of their voice and likeness in digital replication. The digital replication right does not expire at a person’s death, and can be transferred and licensed by heirs, executors and others. That post-mortem right, though, terminates no longer than 70 years after an individual’s passing.
The legislation is sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tn), Sen. Chris Coons (D-de), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-Nc) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-mn). In the House, the sponsors are Rep.

President Donald Trump’s tariff regime goes into effect at midnight on Tuesday, and some Republican lawmakers can barely contain how much they hate it. As markets crater, and tensions escalate between the United States and its most important trade partners, elected Republicans must be realizing that they will be among the first to feel the backlash from voters.
Few have been as vocal about what they think of the president’s protectionist policies as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has already introduced legislation aiming to curb Trump’s tariff powers.

Republicans aren’t typically big fans of taking deliberate action to crash the stock market — but that’s what Donald Trump did on Wednesday, putting lawmakers who have fashioned their careers around fluffing the president in a tough spot.
There are, of course, plenty of Republicans who have given their full-throated support to Trump’s sweeping tariff agenda — a mind-blowingly dangerous economic maneuver that is expected to cause prices of everyday goods to skyrocket — but there are also plenty who haven’t been able to hide their unease over the move.
