Ryan Murphy‘s “The Shards,” based on the 2023 prep school thriller novel by American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, has officially been ordered to series at FX.
What’s more is that Deadline reports that Igby Rigney (“The Fall of the House of Usher”), Homer Gere (“The Agency”), and Graham Campbell will join previously announced lead Kaia Gerber (Shell) on the series.
Set in 1981 Los Angeles, the semi-autobiographical, dark coming-of-age tale follows a 17-year-old Ellis during his final year at the elite Buckley prep school. Upending the character’s world is the arrival of a mysterious new student, Robert Mallory, whose unsettling presence coincides with the activities of a serial killer known as The Trawler.
In the series, Rigney will portray Ellis, and Campbell will play Thom. Gere, son of actor Richard Gere, has been cast as Robert Mallory. Frequent Murphy collaborator Max Winkler is attached to direct.

A fact often gone unacknowledged is that, as we age, our desires unwittingly change. When it does, the terms we used to define ourselves and those around us must undergo a process of deconstruction, after which one can fashion a new vocabulary. At the start of Norwegian novelist-turned-filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud’s Sex, the first installment in his Oslo Trilogy––followed by Love and concluding with Dreams, which won the Golden Bear at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival––we encounter two middle-aged chimney sweeps in the middle of confessing their respective crises of identity, which has left them bewildered and distraught.
The first, Avdelingsleder (Thorbjørn Harr), is concerned with a dream where David Bowie appears and looks at him like he’s a woman, instilling in him a mollifying feeling that remains in waking life. The other, Feier (Jan Gunnar Røise), unpacks a recent, unexpected, rather pleasant sexual encounter with a...

Kelly Reichardt’s latest film “The Mastermind,” starring Josh O’Connor as an art thief on the run, earned a 5.5-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere on Friday night.
Reichardt’s subdued, ‘70s-set movie was essentially a one-man show for O’Connor, with him appearing in nearly every scene. Haim plays his quiet wife, who is aware of his husband’s schemes but leaves with their twin boys once the cops start tracking him down.
In tears, Reichardt humbly accepted the applause, but as the standing and clapping went on and on, she seemed eager to take the mic and get on with her remarks. She poignantly told the crowd, “America’s in a ditch right now, but maybe we’ll get out of it. But in the meantime we have the movies.”

Buyers and sellers in Cannes have reported a steady flow of business in a market that threatened to be upended before it began by Donald Trump’s nebulous pre-Cannes tariff threat.

Ryan Murphy in Development on Bret Easton Ellis’ ‘The Shards’ Adaptation for FX and Star Kaia Gerber
After spending months in development for an HBO series that ultimately fell apart, FX and one of the biggest TV producers around in Ryan Murphy are in early development on an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ semi-autobiographical book, “The Shards,” an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.
While it’s early days and there’s no writer attached just yet, the series adaptation does have Kaia Gerber meant to star and Max Winkler, who has worked on Murphy’s “American Horror Story,” “Monster,” and “Feud,” set to direct the pilot episode of the series.
20th Century Television is producing the series alongside Ryan Murphy Television. Executive producers are Murphy, Ellis, Winkler, Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young.
FX and 20th Century TV had no comment.

Netflix has assembled an exciting cast for a heist thriller from “City of God” and “The Two Popes” director Fernando Meirelles. Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones will all star in “Here Comes the Flood” for the streaming service.
Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria announced the news during the streamer’s Upfronts presentation on Wednesday. The film hails from writer Simon Kinberg, who is also producing the film alongside Audrey Chon for his Genre Films banner, as is Meirelles. Samson Mucke is executive producing.
“Here Comes the Flood” is an unconventional heist movie about a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses.
Kinberg’s script dates as far back as 2020, when Netflix first won the spec script from Kinberg and later when Jason Bateman was in talks to direct the film. Now though, Pattinson has just closed his deal to star.

Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones will star in Here Comes the Flood, a Simon Kinberg-penned crime thriller that Fernando Meirelles will direct for Netflix.
Meirelles is also producing the feature with Oscar nominee Kinberg and Audrey Chon, the latter two via their Genre Films banner.
Netflix picked up the original screenplay in 2020, making a splashy seven-figure deal to win a heated spec script auction. It was a markedly different era, with the streaming wars in full swing and the streamer’s film unit being run by Scott Stuber, who always had Netflix’s wallet open. Still, the project survived (at one point Jason Bateman was in talks to direct an iteration but a deal never took), and now five years later has attracted top-shelf talent.

Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves shut down many haters with their film The Batman, which raked in both positive reviews and millions of dollars. A sequel was immediately announced, and fans have been eagerly waiting for it ever since 2022. However, The Batman 2 faced significant delay due to the unavailability of both Reeves and Pattinson.
As for Reeves, he shifted his focus to another project in the Batman universe, focusing on Colin Farrell’s villain, The Penguin. Reeves’ HBO series was a huge hit with critics and viewers. He is set to produce other DC projects, including Mike Flanagan’s standalone film, Clayface.

Before he heads back to Gotham City, it sounds like Robert Pattinson might be heading to Arrakis!
According to Deadline, Pattinson (The Batman; Mickey 17; Tenet) is being eyed for the primary antagonist role in Dune: Messiah, the third and final installment of director Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed Dune trilogy.
No formal offer has been presented to Pattinson's team just yet as both sides will likely have to first figure out his busy shooting schedule, since he's already scheduled to film both Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Matt Reeves' long-awaited The Batman Part II later this year.
If a deal closes, it's expected that Pattinson will portray the film's lead villain, Scytale.

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are, arguably, two of the biggest stars on the planet right now. The former is DC's Batman, Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 (and all the other Mickeys too), and Edward frickin' Cullen for crying out loud; the latter is the McU's own Mj, Luca Guadagnino's Challengers muse, and soon to be seen alongside R-Pattz in Christopher Nolan's currently shooting latest epic The Odyssey. And, if Deadline's sources are accurate, it looks like the in-demand duo may be shooting another blockbuster epic for a beloved auteur together before the year is through. Acclaimed filmmaker Barry Jenkins didn't take long to find his next project after Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King. Jenkins has come on board to direct A24's upcoming biopic about the life of singer Ronnie Spector.

It's safe to say that, throughout Hulu's new original series "Paradise", a lot of stuff happens in the show's first season, which spans eight episodes and imagines a world where a private community lives in a Colorado bunker after an apocalyptic event. We spend the majority of our time with Brown's Secret Service agent Xavier Collins, who discovers that his boss, President Cal Bradford (James Marsden), has been murdered in the very first episode ... but Samantha Redmond, a woman who goes by the name "Sinatra" and runs the bunker largely because she's the richest person who lives there, is also a very important character.

Robert Pattinson is starring opposite Zendaya in A24’s “The Drama,” and if it wasn’t for her then he might’ve lost his mind over one particular scene. Speaking to French publication Premiere (via IndieWire), Pattinson said that Zendaya helped him get out of his head by telling him to just say a line and to stop obsessing over what the hidden meaning of their scene might be.
“We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson said. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis. I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene. I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning. And there I was going crazy for three days.

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are two of the best young actors in the business, and they recently teamed up for a new A24 movie. After rising to fame as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, Pattinson has completely reinvented himself with an array of independent dramas. This includes several collaborations with the indie studio A24, starring in the Safdie brothers' Good Time, Claire Denis' High Life, and Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse in consecutive years from 2017 to 2019, though he has also starred in other well-regarded movies including Tenet, The Batman, and the Boy and the Heron English dub.
Similarly, Zendaya started her career on the Disney Channel sitcoms Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, but has also completely redefined herself as a dramatic actor. Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will co-star in A24's upcoming rom-com The Drama. Pattinson recently recalled being so committed to the story that he obsessed over a particular scene, until Zendaya calmly explained its meaning.
Speaking to French outlet Premiere (via IndieWire), Pattinson recalled obsessing over the scene's context, so much that he called Zendaya, who convinced him not to read too much into the script. "We had a scene together that was driving me crazy," he said. "I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis. I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene."
"I shared my doubts with her. I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning. And there I was going crazy for three days," Pattinson elaborated.

Over the weekend, Nicolas Cage won a Saturn Award for his work in A24’s “Dream Scenario,” a surrealist comedy that saw the performer playing a college professor whose dreams infect the masses. He used part of his acceptance speech to warn against the dangers of artificial intelligence.
“I say, protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions,” the actor warned.
After thanking his writer/director Kristoffer Borgli for dreaming up the imaginative world of “Dream Scenario,” he then turned his attention to the threat of AI.
“But there is another world that is also disturbing me. It’s happening right now around all of us: The new AI world. I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us,” Cage began. “That is a dead end if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or...

While some filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors are slowly embracing the AI revolution in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage has come out as a staunch supporter of the necessity of art made by real people. The actor, best known for his starring roles in hit films like Face/Off, Adaptation, The Rock, and, more recently, Dream Scenario, says that actors need to take a stand against the technology, and refuse to have their performances altered in the slightest by AI.
Over the weekend, Cage won the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Film for A24's Dream Scenario, directed by Kristoffer Borgli. During his acceptance speech (via Variety), the beloved actor used the platform to take a stand against AI in filmmaking. "I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us," said Cage. "Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us." Cage hopes more actors can rally behind him and defend the arts from AI.

Actor Nicolas Cage used his Best Actor acceptance speech at the 52nd Saturn Awards to deliver a passionate warning about artificial intelligence’s potential threat to artistic creativity in filmmaking. Speaking at the Hilton Universal City Hotel on Sunday, Cage argued strongly for preserving the human element in artistic expression.
Receiving the award for his role in “Dream Scenario,” the 61-year-old actor emphasized the critical importance of human emotional depth in performance. “The job of all art is to hold a mirror to the human condition,” Cage stated, cautioning that AI-generated performances would ultimately “lack heart and turn to mush.”
Cage’s concerns aren’t new. In October, he previously expressed worry about potential misuse of his digital body scans, fearing posthumous manipulation of his image through AI technology. Kristoffer Borgli is still in the process of lining up the cast for his next film, The Drama, following his acclaimed, surreal Nicolas Cage-led satire Dream Scenario in 2023. A star-studded trio of Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Alana Haim already committed to the director's next wild ride last year, but there's yet another big, Emmy-nominated name that's been reported in connection with the title — Mamoudou Athie. Coming off of roles in Yorgos Lanthimos's Kinds of Kindness and the Stephanie Hsu-led series Laid, he was said to be in final talks to join the feature back in October, though nothing was made official. During a conversation with Collider's Perri Nemiroff for his next movie, By Design, at our Sundance interview studio at the Rendezvous Cinema Center, he set the record straight and confirmed his involvement.

In a moment near the end of our interview at the IndieWire Studio at Sundance, presented by Dropbox, Callum Turner gets sheepish about dropping a certain four-letter word. The British actor asks if he’s going to be bleeped. When I say that he won’t — IndieWire is edgy and won’t tolerate censorship! — he says he actually really wants, perhaps desperately, to be bleeped.
Perhaps it’s the kind of American talk show convention the 34-year-old Londoner wants to embrace as he continues to make a mark in the U.S. The rising star has already been in “Green Room,” “Emma,” “The Boys in the Boat,” as well as “Masters of the Air,” but late night show ubiquity still lies ahead for him. And it’s gonna happen.
The frantic desire to be bleeped certainly captures the manic energy of his new, cockeyed rom-com, “Atropia,” directed by Hailey Gates and co-starring Alia Shawkat.

Robert Pattinson admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair that he nearly convinced himself that cinema was dying and it was time to maybe stop acting as Hollywood struggled in the wake of the Covid pandemic and two major labor strikes. But then came a few movies like Oscar contender “The Brutalist,” directed by his friend Brady Corbet, that made him excited about the movies again. Corbet directed Pattinson in the filmmaker’s debut feature “The Childhood of a Leader.”

Marvel used the same strategy with Sebastian Stan that they used with other actors in their roster. The studio hired relatively unknown actors, paid them cheap compared to industry standards, and they would receive a higher salary down the road if they delivered. According to this strategy, Stan was only paid breadcrumbs when he took on Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger.
