We're at the end of 2024, and you know what that means. It's time to look back at what all happened this year. We'll start off by saying that it's been a rollercoaster of a year for many of the streaming services, especially Netflix. While there were many renewals from the streamer, there were also some cancellations.

This year, the streaming powerhouse pulled the plug on 17 of its original series, and there's even a chance there will be more cancellations since 2024 isn't quite over yet. Obviously, a show getting canceled is never a good thing, and it sucks for the people who were hoping for additional installments. However, there's one Netflix show that got the boot this year that we're not exactly sad about.

In this article, we shared all the Netflix show cancellations from this year as well as discussed why we weren't necessarily hurt by one of the shows being axed.

News that Netflix canceled That 90s Show after its two-season run just dropped recently, but viewers may not have to give up hope that the show could land somewhere else. Per Deadline, producers of That 90s Show, a spinoff of That 70s Show, are contemplating shopping the series to other networks.

Deadline added that moving a show that is a Netflix original to another home can come with many limitations, which can make a traditional TV or cable network the most realistic option. For instance, when One Day at a Time was canceled by Netflix, it moved to the Pop network, which is a similar approach the That 90s Show producers could take.

After Kurtwood Smith announced that Netflix had canceled That ’90s Show after two seasons, his co-stars took to the comments to share their reactions.

Mace Coronel, who played Jay Kelso, said, “Such an honor to meet and work with you.”

It looks like the next generation of Forman and friends won’t get to experience Y2K as Netflix has decided not to continue with episodes of That 90s Show. Netflix is not proceeding with more installments of That ’90s Show, Deadline has learned. The news was confirmed on Instagram by star Kurtwood Smith who indicated that the comedy will be shopped elsewhere.

The cancellation comes a little over a month after Part 3 of the That ’70s Show sequel was released Aug. 22. That translates to a two-season run as Netflix releases multi-cam comedies in Parts (aka half-seasons) after their initial run.

The 10-episode first season of That ’90s Show (aka Part 1), which featured appearances by several That ’70s Show stars, including Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama, was followed by a Season 2 renewal for 16 episodes, split into two parts, Part 2 and 3.

The announcement was made in a video shared via the official Netflix Instagram account. The clip sees various members of That '90s Show cast (along with guest stars Seth Green and Kevin Smit) "throwing the phone" to their counterparts before Kurtwood Smith, who plays Red Forman in the show, reveals that Part 3 will be dropping in less than a month. The actor signs off by telling fans to catch up on Part 2 in the meantime.

Season 2 of the “That ’70s Show” spinoff was divided into multiple parts, an increasingly common trend for the streamer. The first half premiered in June. Netflix announced the news on X via its Netflix Is a Joke account on Tuesday.

“That ’90s Show” first premiered in January 2023. During its first season, all 10 episodes were released at once.

Exclusive: Don Stark is returning to Netflix’s That ’90s Show for Season 2 in a heavy recurring role reprising the character Bob Pinciotti, an Og That ’70s Show character who appeared in one episode of the sequel series last season.

Regarding Bob’s expanded role, we hear he returns to town where he reconnects with Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and Red (Kurtwood Smith). Part 1 of the new season premieres on June 27 with the season conclusion dropping on October 24.

Laura Prepon, who reprised the role of Donna Pinciotti (daughter of Bob) from That ’70s Show in Season 1 of the Netflix comedy, is the only member of the younger leading original cast who will return for Season 2 of That ’90s Show, sources close to production tell Deadline. Mila Kunis has previously confirmed she and Ashton Kutcher will not be back reprising the roles of Jackie and Kelso, respectively, for the show’s sophomore season.

New episodes of That ‘90s Show are coming to Netflix next month. The streaming service has announced that season two of the comedy series will return later this year, with episodes airing in two parts. Each part will consist of eight episodes.

Not surprisingly, the sitcom has been renewed for more groovy (or would it be phat?) times.
