We're at the end of 2024, and you know what that means. It's time to look back at what all happened this year. We'll start off by saying that it's been a rollercoaster of a year for many of the streaming services, especially Netflix. While there were many renewals from the streamer, there were also some cancellations.
This year, the streaming powerhouse pulled the plug on 17 of its original series, and there's even a chance there will be more cancellations since 2024 isn't quite over yet. Obviously, a show getting canceled is never a good thing, and it sucks for the people who were hoping for additional installments. However, there's one Netflix show that got the boot this year that we're not exactly sad about.
In this article, we shared all the Netflix show cancellations from this year as well as discussed why we weren't necessarily hurt by one of the shows being axed.

News that Netflix canceled That 90s Show after its two-season run just dropped recently, but viewers may not have to give up hope that the show could land somewhere else. Per Deadline, producers of That 90s Show, a spinoff of That 70s Show, are contemplating shopping the series to other networks.
Deadline added that moving a show that is a Netflix original to another home can come with many limitations, which can make a traditional TV or cable network the most realistic option. For instance, when One Day at a Time was canceled by Netflix, it moved to the Pop network, which is a similar approach the That 90s Show producers could take.

After Kurtwood Smith announced that Netflix had canceled That ’90s Show after two seasons, his co-stars took to the comments to share their reactions.
Mace Coronel, who played Jay Kelso, said, “Such an honor to meet and work with you.”
Smith replied, “Mace, you’re a wonderful young man with a ton of talent to go along with it… it was [a] pleasure every day to see and work with you! Thanks for all those good days!”
Coronel’s character was the son of Ashton Kutcher’s Michael Kelso and Mila Kunis’ Jackie Burkhart.
Callie Haverda, who played Leia Forman, the daughter of Topher Grace’s Eric Forman and Laura Prepon’s Donna Pinciotti, also had some kind words for Smith, who played her grandfather Red Forman.
“The best TV grandpa I could’ve asked for,” Haverda said.

It looks like the next generation of Forman and friends won’t get to experience Y2K as Netflix has decided not to continue with episodes of That 90s Show. The sitcom was a legacy continuation of the popular Fox series That 70s Show, which ironically started a couple of years after when this last season of That 90s Show takes place. The news of Netflix’s cancellation was confirmed by one of the show’s stars, Kurtwood Smith, who portrays Red Forman, as he posted on his Instagram about the news.
This decision comes after the second season had released its part 3 batch of episodes on the streamer. It was a decision that seemed to be coming as, according to Deadline, part 2, which debuted on June 27, only cracked the Netflix Top 10 list once in its first full week of release, with 1.8 million views. Netflix is not proceeding with more installments of That ’90s Show, Deadline has learned. The news was confirmed on Instagram by star Kurtwood Smith who indicated that the comedy will be shopped elsewhere.
The cancellation comes a little over a month after Part 3 of the That ’70s Show sequel was released Aug. 22. That translates to a two-season run as Netflix releases multi-cam comedies in Parts (aka half-seasons) after their initial run.
The 10-episode first season of That ’90s Show (aka Part 1), which featured appearances by several That ’70s Show stars, including Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama, was followed by a Season 2 renewal for 16 episodes, split into two parts, Part 2 and 3.

Ashley Aufderheide is an up-and-coming actress who has gotten her career off to an impressive start with even her first roles being big parts of the shows and movies they appear in. Born on November 20, 2004, Aufderheide began her career at the young age of three, appearing in Ralph Lauren, Saks, and Juicy Couture advertisements (via MofflyLifestyleMedia). After a few years of modeling, Aufderheide managed to pivot her career into an acting one, first appearing in the 2014 comedy-drama, Infinitely Polar Bear, in a critical role for such a green actor.
Her performance in that film was enough for the young actress to earn a small role in the series, Unforgettable, that same year. From there on out, Aufderheide has been a part of some major TV shows and popular movies, almost always in memorable parts. Quick Links The Setup in That '90s Show Season 1 That '90s Show Found Its Voice in Season 2 That '90s Show Can Stand on Its Own
Hello Wisconsin! The second half of That '90s Show Season 2 was recently released on Netflix. The newest batch of episodes continued to follow the teenage adventures of Eric and Donna's daughter Leia and her group of friends in Point Place. That '90s Show has had a difficult task in its two seasons on air. It has to stay faithful to the original series while setting itself apart with a new identity (and living up to its decade). While the first season consisted primarily of Leia finding her place within the new circle of friends, the second outing built and expanded on the established character dynamics.

Season 2 of the “That ’70s Show” spinoff was divided into multiple parts, an increasingly common trend for the streamer. The first half premiered in June. Netflix announced the news on X via its Netflix Is a Joke account on Tuesday.
“That ’90s Show” first premiered in January 2023. During its first season, all 10 episodes were released at once.
Set during the summer of 1995 and ’96, the comedy revolves around Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). 15 years after the events of “That ’70s Show,” Leia spends the summer in Point Place, Wis., with her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and finds her own group of misfit friends.

Quick Links Who Is Matt Rife? What Is Matt Rifes Role in That 90s Show? The Odd Cameo Remains a Mystery
That 90s Show is shaping up to be a worthy sequel series to That 70s Show. From the return of Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) and their iconic basement to the protagonist Leia (Callie Haverda) as the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), its a fresh new take on the story for a new generation.
Given the time period of the 90s in which the show takes place, its no surprise that That '90s Show has welcomed a long list of guest stars who were popular in that decade. But current-day celebrities with guest starring roles like Matt Rife seem slightly out of place. Not only is Rife's inclusion on the show odd, so is the nature of his character and how he plays into the story.

The lighthearted nostalgia of That ’90s Show transports viewers back two decades to a simpler time. Set in the summer of 1996 in Point Place, Wisconsin, the Netflix sitcom follows teenager Leia Forman as she spends her vacation with her grandparents, Red and Kitty. Leia and her friends pass their days relaxing by the pool, hitting the local arcade, and getting into the usual scrapes one expects from restless youth.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for That '90s Show season 2!
Fez doesn't appear in That '90s Show season 2 due to Wilmer Valderrama's busy schedule filming NCIS. Fez's relationship with Sherri is seemingly abandoned in season 2 despite their season 1 fate. Sherri is also underutilized in That '90s Show season 2 despite being a comedic highlight in season 1.
Wilmer Valderrama's Fez doesn't appear in That '90s Show season 2, but his absence is made stranger when remembering the character's season 1 arc. Fez was one of the original That '70s Show characters to appear in the Netflix sequel series. Whereas Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) have a more prominent role within That '90s Show's cast, major characters like Eric (Topher Grace), Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), and Jackie (Mila Kunis) have popped in as guest stars. That said, Fez's storyline in That '90s Show season 1 was an important aspect of another new character.

The following contains spoilers from That 90s Show Part 2, Episodes 1 and 2, "You Oughta Know" and "Something to Talk About," now streaming on Netflix. It also contains discussion of sexual content.
When Netflix announced That '90s Show, the appeal came from getting to revisit the beloved That '90s Show characters. Obviously the sequel would have to include a new generation -- it wouldn't have made much sense if the original gang hadn't moved on with their lives. But viewers showed up to check in with Red and Kitty Forman, and then became interested in Red's granddaughter Leia Forman and her friends. In That '90s Show Season 2 -- which is referred to as "Part 2" -- that same idea still holds. The teenage characters have gotten better, but it's the adults who make this an entertaining sitcom.

That ’90s Show boss Gregg Mettler is keenly aware of just how long it has been since the Netflix comedy’s freshman run. Due in part to Hollywood’s dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the That ’70s Show sequel series has been off the air for nearly 18 months, and the kids were all considerably older once production got underway on Part 2.
“We didn’t return after a few months, we returned after a long time. There was no point in ignoring that,” the showrunner tells TVLine. “The idea in my mind was, ‘Hey, these kids are getting older in real life.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher will not be returning as Jackie and Kelso for That '90s Show season 2. Original star Wilmer Valderrama has also cast doubts on Fez's return for the next season. The show features the next generation led by Leia Forman and the first season did include several cameos from That '70s Show regulars.
One That '70s Show star has ruled out an appearance in That '90s Show season 2. Mila Kunis starred in the original sitcom as Jackie Burkhart, the somewhat immature daughter of a wealthy family who found herself as part of the core group, growing closer to them as the series progressed. That '90's show revealed that her relationship with Ashton Kutcher's Kelso would exist beyond the series finale, resulting in the pair becoming parents to Mace Coronel's Jay.
With Wilmer Valderrama casting doubt on Fez's return for That '90s Show season 2, another original star confirms their absence.

Wilmer Valderrama is unsure about Fez's return in That '90s Show season 2, emphasizing it is "really the kids’ show." Original cast members like Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith are expected to return, though it's unclear if Fez and others will be back. Season 2 is set to focus on Leia's summer adventures and romantic dilemmas, with a potential new stepfather role for Fez.
Wilmer Valderrama provides an uncertain update on Fez's return in That '90s Show season 2. Serving as a sequel to That '70s Show, the new Netflix sitcom centers on Leia Forman, Eric and Donna's teenage daughter, who spends the summer of 1995 with her grandparents, Red and Kitty, in Wisconsin and forms bonds with a new group of friends. The show stars newcomers such as Callie Haverda as Leia and also sees the return of the original That '70s Show cast, including Wilmer Valderrama as Fez.
