When Ghost of Yotei was unveiled at September’s PlayStation State of Play, the internet predictably exploded over Sucker Punch’s decision to replace Jin Sakai with a new female protagonist, Atsu, voiced by Erika Ishii. But while keyboard warriors were busy typing out their “get woke, go broke” manifestos, some astute observers noticed something far more concerning.

The game’s 1603 Hokkaido setting isn’t just historically inaccurate—it’s potentially problematic in ways that could make or break this highly anticipated sequel. And no, we’re not talking about whether women could be warriors in feudal Japan.
A ghost in more ways than one
The concerns about Ghost of Yotei extend far beyond its deliberately anachronistic title or casting choices. In 1603, Mount Yotei wasn’t even called Yotei—the local Ainu people knew it as Machineshiri.

As the internet continues its meltdown over Atsu taking up Jin Sakai’s mantle in Ghost of Yotei, there’s a more pressing concern that Sucker Punch needs to address in their upcoming sequel. Ghost of Tsushima, for all its stunning visuals and innovative features, had one particularly annoying thorn in its side that many players would rather forget.

And no, we’re not talking about the endless debates around honor versus necessity, or even the controversial casting choices. We’re talking about something far more fundamental to the gameplay experience itself—something that’s been haunting open-world games since the dawn of time, refusing to die like a particularly stubborn oni.

Ghost of Yōtei Female Lead Atsu is getting unjust hate due to their personal life. Erika Ishii, who plays the lead in the next game by Sucker Punch, is a big advocate for calling out the unjust actions of those holding an office of power by openly criticizing their suppressive actions against the LGBTQ community.

Erika Ishii’s bold step against toxic fans has led many toxic fans of the game to the brink of frustration. Their decision to shut toxic people off is completely justified and should not be seen as a threat, nor should it affect the game since their personal lives and the game exist independently of each other.

The recent reveal of Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated sequel to Sucker Punch’s 2020 hit Ghost of Tsushima, has been met with excitement from fans eager to return to the beautifully designed world of feudal Japan.
However, amidst the hype, a vocal minority has emerged, criticizing the game for its decision to introduce a new female protagonist, Atsu, instead of continuing Jin Sakai’s story.

Ghost of Yōtei protagonist is being criticized for their personal life decisions, which seem to be getting out of hand. Judging an actor by not their performance but their personal life is not a fair metric to criticize their work. The work of any individual exists out of their personal lives, and people’s should respect their personal boundaries.

It is not fair to hate on the game based on your disagreement with the actor’s personal belief’s. The actor portrays a character that you see and relate to. Ghost of Yotei will take place roughly 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima which would suggest that Jin Sakai is no longer in the picture. The announcement trailer introduced a new heroine named Atsu, and some fans have noticed a peculiar detail about the young samurai as she embarks on a journey that one might assume is another quest for vengeance. In the voiceover, Mount Yotei is where people flee to hide and disappear which could be the perfect place for criminals and traitors to hide and for Atsu to hunt.

Conan the Barbarian will soon enough get the chance to once again crush his enemies and hear the lamentations of their women, as the character – as depicted by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 movie – will be part of an upcoming Dlc pack in Mortal Kombat 1. He will be joined by Scream’s Ghostface and Terminator 2: Judgment Day’s T-1000. Sorry, still no John Wick…
The Khaos Reigns expansion pack, which is set to debut on September 24th, is part of tradition in bringing non-Mortal Kombat characters into that universe. "Misfits and Magic" features a compelling reimagining of Voldemort with a more complex character arc than in Harry Potter. Evan Kelmp's story subverts Voldemort's one-dimensional villainy, showing genuine growth and self-acceptance. The humorous and critical contrast to Harry Potter in "Misfits and Magic" highlights the potential for more nuanced character arcs.
Dimension 20's comedic riff on Harry Potter has a Dark Lord plot that's far more compelling than the storyline for Voldemort. Dropout's Ttrpg series, Dimension 20 largely functions as an anthology that hops around between stories from season to season. While some revisit characters and settings from previous parts of the series, with a rotating cast joining the one-off "Side Quests" that typically are expansions on previous seasons or well-known media archetypes. Among the best seasons of Dimension 20 is "Misfits and Magic," which dives into a world clearly designed to resemble the wizarding world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter.

The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).
With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.
In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!
The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

The twentieth season of Dimension 20, Burrow's End, concludes with the stoats facing their biggest threat to Last Bast in a final showdown. Aabria Iyengar crafted a horror-filled season with less silliness compared to previous seasons, exploring themes and using the 5e system to enhance the storytelling. The First Stoats were a contentious topic, with Aabria defending their actions, but ultimately they would have aligned against Phoebe if they had survived.

A brand new scripted audio series that just launched this year, NPRmageddon is “what National Public Radio will sound like after the apocalypse,” the team explains.
NPRmageddon is a ten-part post-apocalyptic sci-fi arthouse radio show audio drama adjective-rich podcast in the style of public radio, broadcast from the United States of “Lost” Angeles.
Creators Bryan Keithley and Peter Podgursky tell Save the Cat, “We based our storytelling on how modern media operates and what National Public Radio sounds like now.
“Our approach with NPRmageddon was to give our listeners the good stuff—to lean on one-off stories heavy on science fiction and horror tropes, but to push those tropes through the lens of public media journalism. Step through a typical episode of NPRmageddon, and you’ll find a delicious selection of news-y mayhem worthy of any headline-grabbing lineup from the real world—from marauding mutants to rogue AI’s to parasitic pulsating brains.

Let me stipulate upfront that I have never played a Lara Croft game or saw the first film adaptation of the Tomb Raider franchise. I have a passing familiarity with her thanks to the virtue of Lara being the first major adventure video game female star (where are the others?). As a result, I approached the Blu-ray release of the March Tomb Raider film, out tomorrow from Warner Home Entertainment, with an open mind.
While Angelina Jolie seemed picture perfect in her turn, the slightly smaller, more athletic Alicia Vikander has made the part her own. It helps that the film is effectively her origin story and for 118 fun minutes, we watch her go from clueless Millennial to adventurer after being told she has to claim dad’s inheritance or lose it all…now. She is 21, aimless, and seeking a purpose when life hands it to her and she decides to grab it.
