‘And then somebody throws a piece of sh-t at you’: ‘The Diplomat’ star Ato Essandoh on Stuart getting honeytrapped
Image
One of the elements of Netflix's The Diplomat that lends itself to being an addictive drama is how the show juggles huge political turmoil alongside relationship drama and often comedic complications for the core characters. Case in point, Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh), the deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy in London. Besides his duties being the right hand for U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), Stuart had a tumultuous second season.

After surviving the Season 1 finale explosion, he recovered enough to return to work and randomly met a woman (Adrienne Warren) with whom he hooked up, only to find out there was nothing random about it all. His ex-girlfriend Eidra (Ali Ahn), the CIA station chief, set it all up to ensure he was ready to come back to his job.

Here, Essandoh tells us whether he likes to know what's coming on the hit drama,...

Inside Cynthia Erivo’s Tonys Afterparty: “I Think We Should All Dance Now”
Image
After hosting the Tony Awards, Cynthia Erivo and crew headed to the Russian Tea Room in New York, where award winners and celebrities decided to shed the formalities of the evening and skip to the celebration.

“I’m sick of talking. I think we should all dance now,” Erivo announced to the starry crowd, after being handed a mic while sitting on top of a banquette in a short black taffeta dress.

At the party, aptly named Cyn City, the Wicked star led a crowd up to the second floor of the famed New York venue, where a dance circle formed around her as Abba’s “Gimme Gimme” played. Dancers included Julianne Hough; Danielle Brooks, who starred in The Color Purple on Broadway with Erivo; Adrienne Warren, currently starring in The Last Five Years on Broadway; Dylan Mulvaney; and Lena Waithe, as the music transitioned to Beyoncé tunes and other pop hits.

No surprises in Late Night with Seth Meyers post-holiday schedule
Image
The news it covers may be unpredictable, but Late Night with Seth Meyers isn't surprising anyone with its schedule this week. Monday's holiday confirms what fans can expect from the NBC show this week.

That means there will not be a new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday night. In fact, the show is off for the remainder of the week.

NBC will still try to make the most of the show's timeslot. Repeat episodes are slated to run on the network at 12:35 a.m. Et.

Tuesday, May, 27 will feature John Krasinski, Reba McEntire, and Tony Gilroy from the May 13 episode. Wednesday night replays the...

The promotees are Jenny Tversky, Jessica Sze, Stephanie Kazanjian, and Larissa Saenz, who (with the exception of Saenz), worked alongside Shelter PR’s founding Partners — Marla Farrell, Cara Tripicchio and Christine Tripicchio — during their earlier tenure at Wkt Public Relations, the firm now known as Wolf Kasteler PR.

Named Executive Vice President, Tversky will oversee company and staff relations across both coasts. A founding member of Shelter PR, Sze has been promoted to Vice President within the company’s New York office, as has Kazanjian. And then there’s Saenz, who has been named a Vice President of Shelter PR’s Los Angeles office.

Tony Awards Nominations Snubs And Surprises: ‘Othello’, Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal And Kieran Culkin Don’t Make The Cut
Image
Well, big weekly grosses and even bigger stars can’t guarantee a Tony Awards nomination.

Broadway does what Broadway wants, so no Best Play nominations (or anything else) for huge moneymaker Othello, and no Best Play noms for Good Night, and Good Luck, Stranger Things: The First Shadow and The Picture of Dorian Gray. Same for the critical favorite Cult of Love.

While Good Night and Dorian Gray weren’t nominated for Best Play, their big stars — George Clooney and Sarah Snook, respectively — were nominated for their performances, as expected. In fact, Dorian Gray, in which Snook plays all the characters from the Oscar Wilde novel, has the distinction of being the most nominated solo show in Tony history, placing in six categories: Snook’s performance, Kip Williams’ direction, and nods for scenic, lighting, sound and costume design.

Tony Awards Nominations: Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Othello’ Shut Out Despite Strong Ticket Sales
Image
Othello, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington, was entirely shut out of the 2025 Tony Award nominations.

While the play received mostly mixed reviews, it has been drawing crowds on Broadway and has frequently had the most expensive average ticket price in the industry, at $374.17 last week.

The new musical Redwood, starring Idina Menzel, was also entirely shut out of the Tony nominations, as was the musical The Last Five Years, starring Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren. McNeal, led by Robert Downey Jr. in his Broadway debut, did not receive any Tony nominations.

Though George Clooney got his first Tony Award nomination for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck, the play, which he co-wrote, did not receive a nod for best play, even as it has also been the highest grossing production on Broadway for the past several weeks.

Similarly, the celebrity-driven Glengarry Glen Ross did not get a...

Tony Awards Nominations Predictions 2025: Will Hollywood Rule The Day?
Image
Forty-two productions are eligible for Tony Award nominations this year – the announcements come Thursday morning – making many of the categories very, very competitive. Will the movie and TV stars take over the awards just as they’ve done at the box office? Is there room in the major categories for the high-tech items like Stranger Things: The First Shadow and The Picture Of Dorian Gray? And can anything stop Cole Escola and Oh, Mary! I wouldn’t bet on it.

The nominations for The 78th Annual Tony Awards will be announced Thursday, May 1, live from Sofitel New York on the Tony Awards official YouTube page at 9 a.m. Et. A selection of categories will be revealed live on CBS Mornings at 8:30 a.m. Et. A complete list of nominees will be available at TonyAwards.com immediately following the announcement.

Broadway Box Office Smashes Records With $51M Gross As ‘Good Night, And Good Luck’, ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’, ‘Othello’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Stranger Things’ & Others Rake In The Springtime Cash
Image
Broadway had what appears to be its best non-holiday (Christmas and New Year) week ever last week, with major hits like Good Night, and Good Luck, Glengarry Glen Ross, Othello and longrunners The Lion King, Wicked and Aladdin helping push the total box office figure to $50,874,940 for the week ending April 20.

The figure, for 40 shows, is a huge 47% greater than this week last year. Total attendance of 357,319 was 19% more year-over-year.

Contributing to the big tally were special nine-performance weeks from The Lion King, Wicked and Aladdin.

Even more significantly, the gargantuan total was reached with major contributions from a raft of newly arrived star-packed sell-out productions such as Good Night, and Good Luck with George Clooney, Glengarry Glen Ross with Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, and Othello...

NBC has more bad news for Late Night with Seth Meyers fans
Image
Late Night with Seth Meyers fans have been patient through the middle of April. But a new schedule from NBC only delivers more bad news.

The late-night TV show was off the air last week, airing repeat episodes every night. It was a hard pill to swallow for Seth Meyers' fans who have become dependent on the comedian to give a closer look at the week's headlines.

But any hope that the week off was just a brief hiatus was dashed by NBC. The network's scheudle this week confirms Late Night with Seth Meyers remains off the air.

The Easter holiday on Sunday certainly didn't help the odds of Meyers returning to the air. Other late-night shows, like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, are also going dark this week.

George Clooney’s ‘Good Night, And Good Luck’ Breaks Own Record With $3.7 Million Weekly Gross – Broadway Box Office
Image
Good Night, and Good Luck, the play about Edward R. Murrow written by George Clooney and Grant Heslov adapted from their 2005 film, grossed $3,784,200 last week at Broadway’s 1,537-seat Winter Garden Theatre, breaking its own previous $3.3 million record as the highest grossing non-musical play in Broadway history.

With ticket prices also on the upswing – average cost last week for a seat to see Clooney in his Broadway debut was $303.40, with premium seats hitting $825 – the play, which stars the ER actor as Murrow and was directed by David Cromer, is taking in more money than any play in the Winter Garden’s hundred-plus years.

The previous record-setter was the 2022 musical revival of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman, which set the Winter Garden’s house record in March of that year with a $3.5 million regular eight-performance weekly gross (that revival still holds the house record for a special nine-performance week with...

Jonathan Groff’s Bobby Darin Musical Makes Big Splish-Splash In First Week Of Previews – Broadway Box Office
Image
With the insanely busy Broadway spring season nearing peak production – only one musical, Dead Outlaw, has yet to begin previews – most shows felt the heat of competition last week, with 29 of the 39 productions reporting slips in box office grosses from the previous week.

Even so, most of the productions, particularly the more recent arrivals, were enjoying the rising tide nonetheless, with Just In Time starring Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin selling out Circle in the Square and hitting a sweet high note of $901,973 for its first seven previews. Take that, all you Dream Lover naysayers. Who is Bobby Darin, indeed. He’s Jonathan Groff, that’s who. The musical officially opens April 26.

Let’s take a look at some other recent spring arrivals.

Glengarry Glen Ross, the well-received Mamet revival starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, took a dip but stayed strong overall with a $1,789,575 take in its...

Broadway Box Office: ‘Othello’ Tops Industry Gross Amid Flurry of Show Openings
Image
Othello regained the top spot in the industry last week, as the play, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, grossed $3.179 million and saw its average ticket price increase to $382.92.

The production, which is playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, slightly edged out its nearest competitor, Good Night and Good Luck, starring George Clooney. That play brought in $3.135 million, close to $150,000 less than the prior week, but the lowered grosses came during a week that included an entirely comped opening night for the production.

The show opened April 3 at the Winter Garden Theater to mixed to positive reviews, including from The New York Times, which gave it a critic’s pick. Good Night and Good Luck still had the second highest ticket price in the industry last week at $250.68.

Several shows had opening nights last week, including Glengarry Glen Ross, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, which opened to mixed to positive reviews,...

Is Jimmy Kimmel Live! new tonight, March 31? ABC's late-night plan this week
Image
Jimmy Kimmel Live! remains a go-to destination in late-night TV for A-list celebrity interviews and Jimmy Kimmel's take on D.C. So what should fans expect to see on ABC tonight?

Kimmel was kept busy last week, covering the fallout from the Signal text scandal as well as hosting some of the stars from The White Lotus. It's the kind of balance audiences have come to expect, and enjoy, from the show.

Unfortunately, they'll have to go without that entertainment on Monday. There will not be a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight.

Instead, ABC will reair the the March 6 episode. Tune in to see Kimmel chat with the original White Lotus star, Jennifer Coolidge. Plus, Sarah Bock and Coco Jones appear.

It looks like that will be the plan for the remainder of the week, too. Kimmel and his team will be off this week, but should return on Monday,...
