‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ Star Alycia Debnam-Carey Sounds the Alarm on Wellness Influence
Image
Alycia Debnam-Carey has always had a profound love of the arts. Though she’d been sharpening her acting skills since the age of 8 and landed roles in short films in Australia as a teen, Debnam-Carey found herself drawn to the “consistency and security” of music, so much so that the classical percussionist and jazz drummer nearly auditioned for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music ahead of her high school graduation.

“I was in my tutoring, getting ready for all the pieces that we were going to play and sitting there suddenly having the audition scheduled and going, ‘Actually, I don’t think I want to do this,’ ” recalls Debnam-Carey, 31. “I remember being like, ‘I’ve actually booked a flight to Hollywood’ — which was so chaotic — but I just inherently knew that acting was always something that I wanted to be doing.”

Debnam-Carey’s latest role in Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar...

How Agatha All Along cleverly avoids the Bury Your Gays trap
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe came back in a big way in 2024, and after complaints that superhero fatigue was tanking the world’s highest-grossing franchise, it seems all we needed was a bit of camp to bring things back around. Despite the lauded legacy of Jac Schaeffer’s WandaVision, the idea of focusing an entire spinoff on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness seemed like a gamble. Boasting a diverse cast of LGBTQ+ actors and promises from Aubrey Plaza (Aubrey Plaza) that it would be a "gay explosion" meant that fans had to deal with the usual cries that the MCU has gone ‘woke.’

Thankfully, while The Marvels felt the wrath of those unable to handle a movie led by women, Agatha All Along has defied expectations. From debuting one of the most important gay characters from Marvel Comics to giving us the MCU’s first lesbian kiss, Agatha All Along did...

Alycia Debnam-Carey Says Directing 'Fear the Walking Dead' Helped Establish Her Creativity
Image
Though she has credits dating as far back as 2003, Alycia Debnam-Carey is only just beginning to have her voice heard on-set as a creative force. Her influence was already felt on The 100, where she enjoyed a recurring role as Lexa and was able to help decide her character's appearance based on the lore of the show. However, nothing compares thus far to her long-running stint on Fear the Walking Dead, which earned her the chance to jump behind the camera and direct an episode in 2022 after being a main cast member throughout most of the first seven seasons. With her new horror sensation It's What's Inside hitting Netflix recently, Debnam-Carey appeared on the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff for a wide-ranging conversation in which the actress recalled how helming Season 7's "Ofelia" helped her establish her creativity in a new way.

10 Times a Walking Dead Character Shouldve Died (But Didnt)

The Walking Dead is known for savagely killing off its main characters. But its also known for teasing the death of characters in such a way that makes fans believe they certainly should have died, only to find out later that they didnt. In many of these cases, the character never ended up dying throughout the entire shows run. A few, however, eventually met their ends.

Often, fans were sure a character was done for only for them to be miraculously saved. The most notable was in Rick Grimes final episode when he was saved in the nick of time by Jadis. But there are other moments that gave fans the same fright.

The Halloween collab embraces nostalgia this year, resurrecting characters from classic horror titles.

An image of the upcoming collab, teased by Shiina on X, shows that Leatherface and Billy the Puppet from Saw will be coming to Fortnite this season. The image also shows a pumpkin-themed reskin of the Ultima Knight holding what looks like the Wood Stake Shotgun from last year's Fortnitemares.

Fear The Walking Dead: Cast & Character Guide
Image
Fear the Walking Dead is a standalone spin-off that serves as a better starting point for new viewers of The Walking Dead franchise. With a rotating cast of characters, Fear the Walking Dead offers a true ensemble effort that is well worth watching for fans. The show's resurgence in popularity on Netflix has brought attention to its debut in a Walker-infested Los Angeles setting.

A spin-off of AMC's ultra-popular The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead boasts a completely new cast of characters and a few notable crossovers and cameos. Created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the post-apocalyptic horror series was the franchise's first-ever spin-off. Instead of being set near to its parent show's Atlanta setting, the series began in a Walker-infested Los Angeles, California. The first few seasons follow a dysfunctional, blended family, led by Kim Dickens' Madison Clark, but, as time goes on, more characters join the show's ever-expanding roster.

Why Was The 100 Cancelled?
Image
The main message of The 100's final season highlighted the need for peace to end humanity's conflicts. The showrunner ended The 100 in its seventh season to avoid overstaying its welcome and to provide a satisfying conclusion. Despite a dedicated following, The 100's declining viewership and CW's focus on other genres led to its cancelation.

CW's The 100 became one of the network's most talked about shows when it first aired in 2014. The sci-fi drama series is set in a post-apocalyptic world. A Counsel of what's left of the human race sends a group of delinquents to Earth to test its habitability after a nuclear explosion destroyed it. While the series focuses on teens, it covers mature themes like equality, morality, sacrifice, and sexuality.

With the main message echoing strongly in its final season, The 100 made it clear that peace will be unattainable until humanity stops fighting.

Walking Dead: Rick, Michonne, and the Allure of Post-Apocalyptic Love Stories
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 1 and The Last of Us episode 3.

There’s no dating in the apocalypse … at least not for the first few years. It’s all raw survival, never-ending panic, and flashes of joy and ingenuity that keep humanity going just enough to persevere. At least that’s what all the end-of-the-world tales tell us.

In recent years, stories like Station Eleven and The Last of Us have depicted various permutations of disrepair that society might fall into after a deadly global pandemic. When a large portion of the population is just gone and every day is a fight to stay alive, standards and realities change. Instead of meeting by the bar, two lovers might meet staging a coup against a rogue government agency, falling into a booby trap, or perhaps even during a delivery of infant formula to a prison gate.

9 TV Couples Who Got Together Way Too Fast
Image
Getting together too soon can lead to a lack of development and storylines for TV couples, as seen with Andy and April from Parks and Recreation and Nick and Jess from New Girl. Rushed relationships can result in awkward tension and instability, like Clarke and Lexa from The 100 and Chuck and Blair from Gossip Girl. The Big Bang Theory's Leonard and Penny could have had a more satisfying payoff if their relationship had been delayed to allow for personal growth and self-discovery.

When it comes to romance in TV shows, characters need to work up to a relationship, and if it happens too soon, it could cause problems down the line. A long-running series nearly always includes characters that fans of the show will ship, who have natural chemistry and audiences expect them to end up together. However, the creatives navigating these relationships have a difficult task with...

Showrunners have had to publicly apologize for mistakes made on popular TV shows, whether they are professional errors or personal choices. Apologies from showrunners have varied in their effectiveness, and controversies have often lingered over their series even after apologizing. 10 Ridiculous TV Character Exits That Shows Handled Very Badly
Image
From South Park’s Chef to Two and a Half Men’s Charlie Harper, some iconic TV characters have been written out of their show in really silly ways. Whether a cast member has chosen to depart from the series or they’ve been fired by the network, TV writers are often required to write certain actors' characters out of their shows. This might mean an off-screen death, a move to a new city, or something else entirely. Since these character exits are often due to contractual complications and not a creative decision, it can be tricky to figure out an organic way to work it into the story.

The Simpsons famously satirized TV character departures when Poochie was written out of The Itchy & Scratchy Show with the explanation that “Poochie died on the way back to his home planet.” That’s an exaggeration of the lazy ways writers remove...

Shows Like The 100 That Are Worth Your Time
Image
Although it treads well-worn territory, "The 100" is a unique show. The series aired on The CW from 2014 to 2020, receiving critical acclaim -- especially in its early seasons. While it ran on a network known for airing soapy teen dramas, "The 100" is tonally and thematically distinct from its contemporaries. There isn't much typical high school drama, and when there are teenage relationship troubles, it's more "my new love interest is forcing me to execute my ex" than "the popular girl stole my boyfriend."

"The 100" isn't afraid to go there, and go there it does throughout seven seasons. While Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) starts the series as a rebellious teenager, she becomes the de-facto leader of her people. Before leaving her teenhood, she made harrowing decisions. During its first few seasons, "The 100" was extremely popular with the lesbian and queer community, who obsessed over the relationship between Clarke...

10 Most Heartbreaking Deaths In Fantasy TV Shows
Image
The article contains discussions about death and the process of grieving.

Many people expected King Viserys' death to come soon in House Of The Dragon as the catalyst for the Dance of the Dragons, and it finally happened in "The Lord of the Tides." But no one envisioned his death to be this heartbreaking, as the king not only wanted his family to unify in a final dinner, but his final words were about his first love Aemma.

A character's demise on the small screen causes a sting in many people's hearts, but unfortunately, this is very common in most fantasy shows. Though deaths mark a shift in the overall story, fans were still teary-eyed watching gut-wrenching deaths in shows like The Walking Dead and Supernatural.

10 Worst Character Exits On TV, According To Reddit
Image
Chicago Pd's beloved Jay Halstead said goodbye in a recent episode, and fans were not at all content with his exit. They even went as far as calling it rushed and insulting to his character.

Writers will often do character exits in a surprising or brutal way as if they want to capitalize on the actor leaving as much as they can. But they will also often times exact their revenge towards the actors for leaving, and make their characters suffer unnecessarily or ruin their character beyond repair.

Lexa (The 100)

"Lexa getting killed in The 100. The writers really couldn't think of any other way to kill her besides getting hit with a stray bullet that was meant for Clarke?" said Reddit user MercilessShadow. This will sometimes happen when fans would be willing to accept an exit, except it's done in such a way it's wrong for the character.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of the March 3 episode of the CW’s The 100.

Right from the start, today’s The 100 panel at Wondercon 2016 addressed the still-lingering elephant in the room: the death of lesbian character Lexa, played by Alycia Debnam-Carey, that enraged fans of the CW’s hit series three weeks ago.
