Fans Cannot Decide if Superman Broke His "No Kill" Rule With Ultraman
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Superman

James Gunn’s Superman has instigated several heated debates online, including several around the old argument centered on Superman’s no-kill rule. For those who haven’t seen the movie yet, this is your last chance to avoid spoilers.

There is ongoing discussion regarding whether David Corenswet's portrayal of Superman goes against his regular rule of not using lethal force against his enemies and actually kills Ultraman. In the movie, the Man of Steel defeats Ultraman by sending him into a black hole, which many have said means he knowingly sent his evil clone to its death. However, others have argued that the character is not confirmed to have died, and could quite easily return.

Opinions on the scene have varied, with some pointing out that Superman said that going into the black hole in the pocket dimension would kill him, therefore...

Ahead of James Gunn's 'Superman', The Man of Steel Gets a Wild Comic Figure From McFarlane Toys
Image
James Gunn's Superman is right around the corner. The first Dcu film in the franchise’s new shared continuity is hitting theaters in July and will see Pearl’s David Corenswet portray the iconic comic book superhero. Merchandise for the epic adventure is starting to hit store shelves with one of the biggest contributors being McFarlane Toys. Now the famous toy company has debuted their latest comic book Superman figure based on one of the character's wildest stories.

Based on the “Strange Lives of Superman", this McFarlane Toys figure is a part of their popular seven-inch-scale DC Multiverse line. Specifically, this will be #39 in the company's DC Collector's Edition subseries. While Superman is featured in his classic red and blue comic suit with the yellow “S” emblem on the back of the cape, the figure comes with three interchangeable heads. There’s a normal heroic look, a lion head and big skull head.

Image
While the live-action Justice League movie is divisive, the animated escapades of DC's premier hero team have always enjoyed a much more positive reception among both fans and critics. They're thrilling, bold, fun, and everything an animated superhero movie should be.

Over the years, DC Comics has produced a massive library of animated films. Some feature the Justice League in cameos or as part of a larger ensemble, while others throw the heroic team into the spotlight. From fun Lego adventures and alternate universes to space conflicts and nail-biting thrillers, the Justice League makes any DC animated film feel epic.

Updated on January 28, 2025, by Jordan Iacobucci: The DC Animated Movie Universe has seemingly come to a permanent end with the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths event. This ends an era of DC films leading up to the birth of James Gunn's new Dcu. While not every animated Justice League movie was well-received,...

New ‘Superman’ Set Video Shows Superman Is Getting Ready for a Fierce Battle Against an Unknown Foe
Image
As everyone knows, one of the greatest, most well-liked, and most powerful comic book characters ever is Superman. He is one of the most valuable properties of DC Comics and has been around since 1938. Superman has, for the most part, lived up to the heroic principles throughout his career, and his name has somewhat become a synonym for superheroism in general.

His on-screen interpretations have been numerous and they vary in format as well. Superman has been a part of contemporary American pop culture for decades, appearing in both live-action and animated forms. James Gunn’s upcoming Superman feature will be another contribution to an already extensive canon of movies.

We have recently reported on Gunn’s take and how different it might be from Snyder’s darker take, as set photos and videos from the filming process are being leaked and/or released online. In this report, we are...

Superman: New Set Photos Reveal Much Closer Look At The Engineer, [Spoiler] And [Spoiler]
Image
Following last night's big reveal that the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) will be facing a formidable new foe in James Gunn's Superman reboot, we have another batch of photos from the Cleveland, Ohio set which give us a much closer look at this mysterious villain.

We're still not exactly sure who this is (Ultraman? Midnighter? Bizarro? Ulysses?), but whoever it turns out to be, he is clearly powerful enough to pose a physical threat to the Man of Tomorrow and keep him pinned to the ground.

Scooper Mttsh is adamant that it is Ultraman, anyway.

The whole point of the movie is that Lex creates a Superman clone. Ulysses is not another version of Superman, while Ultraman Is. And in this movie he's a clone instead of a Superman from an alternate reality https://t.co/t2wJHpSVeD

Pro photographer, NYCosplayer, captures the intense rivalry between Nightwing and Red X in a cosplay photoshoot. Red X's mysterious origins make him a dangerous foe for Nightwing, with their epic battle continuing in DC Comics.

Nightwing fights his antithesis, Red X, in an incredible cosplay photoshoot. Like Batman with Prometheus and Superman with Bizzaro, the most dangerous enemies are the ones who reflect the hero they are trying to replace or destroy. Red X is a grim reminder of what Nightwing could become should he abandon the righteous path. This cosplay reminds fans of how dangerously similar the two vigilantes are.

Pro photographer, NYCosplayer, has cosplayers as Red X (Jo Jo Cruz) and Nightwing (Dr. Gerro) fighting in different locations in an Instagram post. The photoshoot consists of Nightwing poised and ready to fight with his Escrima sticks,...

James Gunn Might've Just Accidentally Revealed the Secret Villain of His Superman Movie
Image
The villain for James Gunn's Superman, releasing in 2025, has yet to be confirmed, but the director may have just spoiled who it will be.

The Dcu's Superman has announced a stacked cast including several major Justice League superheroes, but plot details, including the identity of the movie's main villain, remain vague at best.

Past live-action Superman movies have pitted the Man of Steel against General Zod, Doomsday, and Lex Luthor, while other iconic villains from his rogues gallery such as Brainiac, Bizzaro, Metallo, and Parasite have gone largely ignored.

“I believe in you. With all my heart”: DC Turns Joker Sane and He Reveals the Superhero He Respects the Most Was Never Batman
Image
Dcu’s Joker is by far the greatest antagonist and without a shadow of a doubt, he is the most popular negative character by a landslide. The character has existed in comic books for several years and has undergone a number of vital changes during this time. However, there is no denying that among a sea of villains, his face was the most iconic and it grabs one’s attention right off the bat.

Joker in Batman: The Animated Series

One of the key reasons that he remains popular is because he is driven by sheer chaos and madness, making him an intriguing and multifaceted character. Over the years, fans have seen The Clown Prince of Crime had immense respect for his arch-nemesis, Batman. However, the superhero franchise has done the impossible by making him sane in a recent arc, and interestingly enough, he respects Superman the most.

10 Times The Boys Roasted Marvel & DC (With Good Reason)
Image
The Boys unabashedly mocks and criticizes popular Marvel and DC characters, exposing their flaws and repetitive storylines. It parodies evil versions of Superman and Batman, highlighting the tired tropes and overuse of these storylines by the two publishers. The Boys challenges the resurrection of superheroes, showcasing the grotesque consequences of bringing characters back to life and rejecting the never-ending storylines of Marvel and DC.

While it’s true The Boys (by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson) is an established and widely successful series with its own rich lore and intriguing, original characters, its existence is also rooted in parody, as the comic series not-so-subtly insults and corrupts beloved DC and Marvel Comics characters in every one of its 72 issues and spin-off miniseries.

Not only are there a plethora of characters who are direct parodies of Marvel and DC superheroes, The Boys also finds ways to roast the two publishers in other,...

Smallville Is Better Than the Arrowverse Shows for One Simple Reason
Image
Smallville was a trendsetter for modern superhero TV shows. It went through phases of freak of the week to progressive, connected storytelling. Clark Kent battled villains like Brainiac, Bizzaro, Doomsday and the recurring fear of Lex Luthor finding out his secret. Smallville also acted as a blueprint for a live-action team-up of the Justice League, bringing in Justin Hartley's Green Arrow, Alan Ritchson's Aquaman and other League members. That set the stage for things like the Arrowverse, which took DC TV beyond what anyone could've imagined.

But Smallville is better than its successors, having valued character development more than crossovers. Of course, Smallville wasn't perfect, as it dealt with its fair share of issues, such as Lana Lang's character motivation. However, regardless of any issues, there's one aspect that Smallville nailed throughout -- it didn't rely on secondary characters to progress. Even after two decades, no other...

Jack Quaid Reveals My Adventures With Superman's Comic Inspiration
Image
My Adventures With Superman star Jack Quaid revealed which iconic DC Comics stories inspired his take on the Man of Steel.

Per Collider, the star noted that arguably the most popular Superman narrative is what largely influenced his portrayal. "I read All-Star Superman, was a big inspiration. I think with that one you really do get to see how absolutely genuine that character is. Superman For All Seasons does a similar thing," Quaid said. The actor goes on to say that an aspect of both comics that he wanted to capture was the emphasis on Clark Kent being Superman's "real" identity rather than the other way around. "He starts off like Clark isn’t a persona he puts on in order to be more appealing or to have people underestimate him. Like that’s who he is deep down, and he’s still figuring out who he is as Superman,...

That Villain Twist In Superman & Lois Season 3's Finale: All Setup & What It Means
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 13

Superman & Lois season 3’s finale saw Doomsday burst onto the scene in an epic twist that paid off the show’s biggest villain setup. The villain renowned for killing the Man of Steel in DC Comics made his debut in the Superman & Lois season 3 finale as the product of Lex Luthor’s plan to bring down his biggest enemy. His grand entrance in the episode came at the expense of Bizarro, who died over and over again before transforming from one comic villain into another.

Superman & Lois season 3, episode 13, titled “What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger,” amounted to an unexpected dilemma for the Kents. As if a months-long fight to stop Bruno Mannheim, Lois Lane’s cancer battle, the public’s growing interest in Jordan’s superhero activities, and Lex Luthor’s release from prison weren’t enough...

Superman's Villains Get New Powers in Huge Overhaul of DC Lore
Image
Warning! Contains spoilers For Superman #4!In order to contend with Superman's overwhelming power, two villains are giving the Man of Steel's enemies some long-overdue remixes to their own power sets.

This dramatic new direction for Superman's rogues takes place in Superman #4 by Joshua Williamson, Jamal Campbell, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin. Two of Lex Luthor's old enemies, Graf, and Doctor Pharm, are working to undermine both Lex and Superman's control of Metropolis. In order to achieve this, they've been transforming Superman's villains, granting them new powers that are wildly above what they're usually capable of. Parasite's power upgrade has made him a global threat, while Silver Banshee's upgrade seems to let her go up against Superman pretty evenly, at least for the moment.

James Gunn's Superman Needs To Ditch A Classic DC Villain
Image
James Gunn is writing a new, younger Superman film for Dcu, but it needs to ditch a classic DC villain to reach its full potential. Gunn announced that while he is writing a Superman movie, he is moving in a different direction without Henry Cavill. This is a big swing and the first indicator of just how different the new Dcu could be.

While it is clear a new Superman is coming, it is not yet clear who the villain of the film will be. The film is not an origin story, but it will focus on a younger Clark Kent which opens up different story potential. Superman has a variety of villains and while not quite the Batman rogues gallery, Gunn is spoiled for choice for the new movie. There is one villain that he should stay away from, and that is Lex Luthor.

Superman: The Animated Series Had A Problem That Introducing Darkseid Was Meant To Solve
Image
A hero is only as good as his villains, which helps explain why Batman has eclipsed Superman as DC Comics' trademark character. There are at least two dozen memorable villains in the Gotham City rogues gallery, while Metropolis has less than half that. Bruce Timm, an architect of both "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Superman: The Animated Series," is aware of this.

In a 2021 interview with Comic Book Resources, Timm said that, "Superman's rogues gallery was not as visually interesting as Batman's rogues gallery." At first glance, that's a blunt statement, but it's also quite revealing. For one, Timm's vocation as an artist means he prioritizes character design. Secondly, he's right — even the best Superman villains aren't as colorful as the best Batman ones. Lex Luthor is just a normal man in a business suit, and it's essential to his conflict with Superman that he be nothing more. Bizzaro's...
