Image
Actor Jim Parsons, who rose to stardom while playing Sheldon Cooper in the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has found his next role. Per Deadline, Parsons has joined Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga for the project, which is currently in production. Nelson and Farmiga are set to play the cult's leaders, Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, while Parsons' role remains under wraps. The Leader: Jim Parsons joins Heaven’s Gate cult biopic
Tim Blake Nelson at an event for Leaves of Grass (2009)
Two years ago, we heard that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) would be starring in The Leader, a true crime biopic about a story that shocked the world back in 1997, the mass suicide of the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult. That project has finally made it into production, and Deadline reports that Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) has joined the cast. Details on the character he’ll be playing haven’t been revealed – but it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a member of the Heaven’s Gate cult.

Farmiga is playing cult leader Bonnie Nettles, a.k.a. Ti. Nelson’s character is the cult’s infamous frontman, Marshall Applewhite, a.k.a. Do. Also in the cast are Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Grace Caroline Currey (Fall), Matthew Glave (The Wedding Singer), William Mapother (In the Bedroom), Jb Yowell (A Jar Full of Christmas...

‘Laws of Man’ Review: U.S. Marshals Chase Their Tails in a Lukewarm Cold War Thriller
Image
Ambition outstrips expertise in writer-director Phil Blattenberger’s “Laws of Man,” whose serpentine plot winds up seeming a wild goose chase — one whose execution should have been, well, wilder. Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Set in 1963, it takes a big narrative leap toward the end that suggests an intent closer to such willfully over-the-top Cold War paranoia fantasias as “Dr. Strangelove” and “Winter Kills.” But the satirical edge which might’ve pulled off that gambit is absent throughout, making for a whole that’s peculiar without ever being very engaging. Saban is releasing the feature to U.S. theaters, digital and On Demand platforms Jan. 10.

Based in state capitol Carson City, Frank (Jacob Keohane) and Tommy (Jackson Rathbone) are U.S. marshals who’ve driven 15 hours into the remotest Nevada desert...

Stars: Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Stefan Kapicic, Grace Patterson, Olivia Rouyre, Kelly Lynn Reiter, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Tiff Stevenson | Written by Bradley Fowler, Cady Lanigan | Directed by Matthew Goodhue

What could possibly top the recent run of cocaine-fueled bears, sharks, and cougars? How about a cute, three-toed critter turning a sorority house into a Slotherhouse? Yes, the world’s slowest animal has turned homicidal and is carving up sorority girls like a seasoned slasher. Although, as the prologue that shows the critter getting bagged by poachers hints, this isn’t your typically chill furry tree hanger.

Emily wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become president of Sigma Lambda Theta, Slth for short. Unfortunately, she lacks the ruthlessness and social media presence of the current president Brianna. However, a chance meeting with Oliver, an exotic animal aficionado of dubious morality, changes everything. What better way to become the president...

Camp Pleasant Lake unfolds on the grounds of a revitalized campsite that a couple have transformed into an interactive horror experience.

The camp was previously the location of a young girl’s disappearance, which occurred at a similar time to her parent’s murders. This unfortunate event is a selling point for the horror camp, as its opening coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the mentioned tragedy. As a killer stalks the campgrounds to decimate all in their path, everyone at the camp...

Slotherhouse Trailer Unleashes a Killer Sloth in a Sorority House
Image
Many filmgoers probably figured they'd seen the wildest movie of the year to feature a killer animal when Cocaine Bear was released, but there's a new horror-comedy in town with a much more outlandish concept.

Set to release later this month via Gravitas Ventures, Slotherhouse is a new film that's just as it sounds. It's a horror film that sets loose a killer sloth in a sorority house, and given the cuddly nature of the animal, it's very unbefitting of what people think they might know about the creature. Filmgoers may forever see sloths differently after watching Slotherhouse when it hits theaters on Aug. 30, 2023. For now, a sneak peek can be seen by checking out the new trailer.

‘Maneater’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Nicky Whelan, Porscha Coleman, Shane West, Kelly Lynn Reiter, Ed Morrone, Kim DeLonghi, Trace Adkins, Jeff Fahey | Written and Directed by Justin Lee

Maneater is the twelfth feature film from writer/director Justin Lee since he came on the scene in 2018 with Big Legend. And it comes at an opportune time since it’s been a couple of months since we’ve reviewed an old-fashioned shark attack film. Shark Side of the Moon and Sharkula don’t count for obvious reasons.

Jessie got dumped just before her wedding. But since the honeymoon was already paid for, her friend Sunny convinced her to turn it into a vacation. So, along with Will, Brianna and the rest of the crew they set sail with Captain Wally and Beth.

As this is happening, Harlan is running around town demanding the police do something about the shark that killed his daughter. He also...

Project Legion trailer: UFC’s Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone takes on zombies in October release
Image
UFC fighter Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone stars in the upcoming zombie film Project Legion, which is set to receive a theatrical release on October 7th, with an Apple TV release following just four days later on October 11th. With those dates just a few weeks away, a trailer for Project Legion has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Lance Kawas (Good Thief) directed Project Legion from a screenplay he crafted with John Sullivan, Michael Pizzimenti, and James Raptoplous. Apparently they put together quite an epic, because Apple has the movie listed with a running time of 2 hours and 38 minutes. The story told over those 158 minutes has the following synopsis:

Feral creatures that prey on humans have descended upon the city. A furious fight for survival begins as the outside world descends into chaos and a former Marine (UFC superstar Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone), barricaded inside his apartment, prepares to come out fighting.
