In the mid-1980s, Rupert Murdoch had just purchased 20th Century Fox and Metromedia’s TV stations in the top U.S. markets, giving him the means to launch a fourth broadcast network. He strung together a patchwork of low-rated Uhf affiliates across the rest of the country, and the Fox network launched in 1986 with “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers.”

Scripted fare followed, including “Married with Children” and “The Tracey Ullman Show” (which, of course, would beget the still-running “The Simpsons”). But much of the industry guffawed: NBC boss Brandon Tartikoff even dubbed it the “coat hanger network.” Early ratings were slow, and affiliates threatened to revolt (indeed, some dropped out).

But Fox eventually found a lifeline in 1994, when it nabbed NFL broadcast rights. From there, it upgraded affiliates and graduated into a seven-night-a-week programmer boasting a younger, more desirable demographic for advertisers. By the 2000s, “American Idol” made Fox the No.

Marvel's Iron Fist arrives on Netflix on March the 17th, and they just released a few minutes of brand new footage to hold you over...

Back in October, Netflix revealed the first bit of footage from Marvel's Iron Fist series. It was a nice taste of what's to come. But with just over a month until the series makes its March 17th debut on Netflix, we finally have a proper trailer to go along with it, and this one gives us a much better idea of what this one is all about.

Our Us chums took a frame-by-frame look at Marvel's Iron Fist trailer and found all kinds of cool bits and pieces...

As is their annual tradition, Marvel dropped a trailer for their next Netflix series at New York Comic Con. This year, it's Iron Fist, a story about an orphan trained in martial arts in a hidden city who returns to fight crime in New York City and be besties with Luke Cage.

Harmonix dropped an interesting tidbit of news for Rock Band 4 at E3 last month with the announcement of Rock Band Rivals, the first full-fledged expansion pack for the latest in their iconic rhythm game series. Unfortunately, they didn’t provide details beyond pricing and a revamped guitar controller, with employees later saying they’d ultimately chosen to pull back the curtain after a little more development time.

This is exactly what happened last week, when Harmonix provided me and several others with a presentation in New York City, giving us some hands-on time with Rock Band Rivals. Based on what I saw and played, Rivals looks to give the presentation of the series a real shot in the arm with one of its two new primary modes, and should also increase the game’s longevity with the other one.

Adam Brill, Ben Buchanan, and Brian Hill have joined the music department at CAA, where they’ll be based out of the agency’s Los Angeles, Toronto, and Nashville offices, respectively. “Adam, Ben, and Brian are proven successes in discovering and nurturing the careers of emerging artists. They will thrive within CAA’s collaborative model of client service,” said Rob Light, managing partner and head of CAA Music. Brill comes to CAA from Apa, where he was an agent for the past six years. Among the clients joining Brill are Awolnation, Capital Cities, Finish Ticket and Alec Benjamin, among others.

Marvel's Daredevil debuted at 2am Thursday night on the West Coast, and fans have been hungrily scarfing down all 13 episodes ever since. “Harry Potter,” “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games.” These franchises make up the Mount Rushmore of Ya adaptations and studios are falling over themselves to pick up the rights to any Ya novel they can get their hands on. It’s therefore surprising that it’s taken this long for Lois Lowry’s “The Giver” to finally get the big screen treatment, so The Weinstein Company is making up time by putting the marketing machine into overdrive ahead of the film adaptation’s release next month. The “Harry Potter” series notwithstanding, every Ya franchise worth its salt has a curated soundtrack meant to whip the kids into an iTunes buying frenzy, and “The Giver” is no different. Set for release on August 5th, the soundtrack, The Giver: Music Collection, will span 10 songs with offerings from Capital Cities, Jake Bugg, Aloe Blacc and OneRepublic, which is the band behind the soundtrack’s first single.

Kanye West, Kings of Leon, Pharrell Williams, and Tiesto will headline Budweiser Made in America festival at Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Parkway, Aug. 30-31. The festival, curated by Jay Z, will also feature The National, Steve Aoki, J. Cole, Girl Talk, Spoon, Chromeo, City and Colour, Grimes, Awolnation, R3HAB, Gareth Emery, De La Soul, Baauer, Tommy Trash, Mayer Hawthorne, Kongos, 3Lau, The Neighborhood, Danny Brown, Yg, Holy Ghost, Penguin Prison, Destructo, Bleachers, DJ Cassidy, Cherub, Will Sparks, Young & Sick, Vacationer, Cut Snake, Kaneholler. It's one of the biggest nights in music and the 2014 Billboard Music Awards went off without a hitch on Sunday night (May 18).

Featuring performances by Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Shakira and a hologram version of Michael Jackson, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was definitely filled with plenty of energy.

Ludacris hosted the star-studded event and celebrated with winners including Lorde who took home Top New Artist and Top Rock Artist.

Meanwhile, the Top Artist prize went home to Justin Timberlake, who scored the win with singles including "Mirrors" and "Suit and Tie."

Alternative rock quartet Imagine Dragons and New Zealand-born teen singer-songwriter Lorde lead the finalists announced Wednesday morning for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, which honor musical artists across 40 categories. Both earned nods in 12 categories for breakthrough records, including Imagine Dragons's Night Visions record and Lorde's album Pure Heroine. San Francisco's Outside Lands festival has announced its lineup, which includes headliners Kanye West, the Killers and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Check out the complete lineup below. The nominees are in, and the final showdown for the iHeart Radio awards will be between the suave Justin Timberlake, and the sassy Rihanna!

Rihanna was nominated seven times in five categories, as both "Stay" and "The Monster," performed in collaborations with Eminem are up for Song of the Year and Best collaboration, and Justin was nominated in four categories, with "Suit & Tie" and "Holy Grail" in the running for Best Collaboration.

Imagine Dragons also leads nominees with four awards, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have three and Lorde has two.

Coldplay kicked off the iTunes Festival at SXSW on Tuesday, March 11, performing an hour-long set mixing old hits with brand new songs from their new album Ghost Stories.

“We’ve been away a long time, and I can’t think of a better place to come back into the world,” frontman Chris Martin told the crowd before launching into their first song.

Over the course of their set, Coldplay debuted four new songs off their upcoming album: “Always In My Mind,” “Another’s Arms,” “Midnight” and “Magic.” Ghost Stories will be released May 19.

Lady Gaga just announced her first SXSW performance on March 13, the Born This Way Foundation night on Doritos’ #BoldStage. To win tickets, fans must prove their boldness. Gaga and Doritos have created a list of “Bold” challenges, called “Bold Missions,” which give fans opportunities to prove themselves and win tickets.

“I hope everyday to inspire my fans to follow their dreams, hold their talents precious and go for it. Doritos is supporting this same message. Kicking off on June 22nd, the expansive schedule will take the “Roar” songstress all over North America with support acts such as Tegan and Sara, Capital Cities, and Kacey Musgraves.

Katy declared, “The Prismatic World Tour is coming to light up some of my favorite North American cities this summer, as well as some new cities that you introduced me to through your video requests.”

ABC is ringing in 2014 with Billy Joel, who will perform the first song of the new year after the clock strikes midnight on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest." The singer will perform one of his classic hits live from Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, according to ABC.

Seacrest is hosting the annual show alongside "The View" co-host Jenny McCarthy, while Fergie will host the Los Angeles side of the celebration.
