One of the best things about film festivals is arguably the pre-festival programming website. They often don't have a lot of details about what you can expect from a certain movie, which can sometimes be used to a film's advantage. A movie's description can be the most thread-bare description possible, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's all it has to offer. What lies beyond those two or three sentences could be something that shouldn't be relegated to tiny theaters and hushed whispers.

When you look at the SXSW Film & TV Festival program, you'll find the description of "Only The Good Survive" only really describes part of the movie. Sure, it does center around a back-and-forth confrontation between a young drifter (Sidney Flanigan) and a lots-of-nonsense sheriff (Frederick Weller). That might not be the most original of ideas, but the way that writer-director Dutch Southern portrays this twisty crime caper certainly is.

“Green Book” director Peter Farrelly returns after his film won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2019 for a new adventure: “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” starring Zac Efron and Russell Crowe. Farrelly recently sat down with TheWrap in its Toronto International Film Festival Studio with Shutterstock to talk about the true story at the heart of his upcoming film.

“Somebody sent me a 12-minute documentary that Andrew Muscato did about the greatest beer run ever, and I just couldn’t believe what I was looking at, that this guy actually went to Vietnam during the war, somehow found his way around the country and dropped off beers with people and happened to get there right before the Tet Offensive. I was like, ‘That’s unbelievable,’” he told TheWrap’s Brian Welk after the movie’s world premiere on Sept. 13.

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for its upcoming true-life war comedy starring Efron, Russell Crowe and Bill Murray. The film, which is based on a true story, follows Efron as John “Chickie” Donohue. Set in 1967, Donohue leaves New York to track down his army friends in Vietnam and share a few beers with them to show that they have support from the American people. The first trailer for Peter Farrelly’s “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” proudly proclaims that the guy in the film played by Zac Efron “actually did this” as he sprints through an active war zone in Vietnam carrying a sack of cold brews and cheap American lagers.

“The Greatest Beer Run” ever is based on the true story of a man named Chickie Donohue, who felt burned by the protests at home over the Vietnam War and decided he wanted to show his support to his buddies and neighbors overseas by tracking each of them down in Vietnam and bringing them each a beer. And yes, you can tell he’s serious about that plan.

“The man’s stoned sober. That’s maybe his fifth beer, tops,” a bartender played by Bill Murray says in the trailer.

Exclusive: Sidney Flanigan (Never Rarely Sometimes Always), Frederick Weller (BlacKkKlansman), D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai (Reservation Doggs) and Will Ropp (The Greatest Beer Run Ever) will topline the indie thriller Only the Good Survive, from writer-director Dutch Southern, which has wrapped production.

The film picks up with Brea Dunlee (Flanigan) following a heist gone wrong resulting in the deaths of three of her friends, as she finds herself in the custody of the small-town sheriff Cole Mack (Weller), who may be hiding just as many secrets as her. The only thing for certain is only one of them will survive. Darius Fraser (The Chair), Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Jon Gries (The White Lotus) also star in the film being eyed for a 2023 release.

This first premiered at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival last year, and will be debuting streaming on HBO Max later this month. The film deals with the "fallout" of a school shooting - focusing on one young student named Vada who struggles with all the overwhelming emotions afterwards. Relationships with her family, friends and view of the world are forever altered. In the process, she befriends another student named Mia, who she had never been friends with before. Jenna Ortega co-stars with Maddie Ziegler, and a cast including Niles Fitch, Will Ropp, John Ortiz, Julie Bowen, and Shailene Woodley. This and Mass are the only films so far that honestly and appropriately deal with the crisis of school shootings in America.

Steven Soderbergh’s original thriller Kimi, starring Zoë Kravitz (The Batman), will stream exclusively on HBO Max beginning February 10, Warner Bros. Pictures announced today.

“The Fallout” is director Megan Park’s debut film and follows a high school girl’s journey after the emotional fallout of a school shooting forever alters her worldview and her relationships with family and friends.

The film will be released exclusively through HBO Max where available globally, and distributed by Warner Bros. internationally. No release date has been set.

Silk Road tells the story of the alleged founder of the titular website, Ross Ulbricht, and is based on the 2014 Rolling Stone story, “Dead End on Silk Road: Internet Crime Kingpin Ross Ulbricht’s Big Fall.” The film stars Nick Robinson as Ulbricht, and follows him as he turns his ingenious — if not also incredibly illegal — idea into a multi-million dollar underground marketplace.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures Content Group is close to acquiring all international distribution rights to U.S. high school drama The Fallout, starring Jenna Ortega (You), Maddie Ziegler (West Side Story), Niles Fitch (This is Us), Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island) and Will Ropp (The Way Back).

It centers on a man (Vack) who is imprisoned and impregnated by a group of cult members with an archaic belief system. It is an examination of gender, flipping conventional stereotypes. Mahendru will play twins Kitty and Locasta Larkin. Gottlieb, Bryson Pintard and Michael Tipps are producing while Louie Gibson will serve as executive producers. Lexy Kolker is joining the cast of the drama Manifest West. The Freaks actress joins Milo Gibson and Annet Mahendru in the indie from Wolf Haus Productions. Production is slated for early summer 2020 in Southern California.

Written and directed by Joe Dietsch and Louie Gibson, Manifest West drama follows a family who moves off the grid into untamed North American wilderness where they come apart at the seams. The film is told through the perspective of Kolker’s Riley Hayes, the young tomboy who has a keen sense of adventure. She possesses social intelligence beyond her years and is tuned in to the very adult problems that plague her household.
