Reel2Reel Films has confirmed the UK digital release of Year 10, Ben Goodger’s dialogue-free post-apocalyptic horror, arriving on 4 August. The announcement follows the film’s well-received debut at FrightFest last summer, where it drew praise for its stark vision of survival in a world overrun by violence and feral predators.
Set a decade after the collapse of civilisation, Year 10 depicts a grim wasteland where silence is vital to survival. Those who remain have formed violent factions, while packs of wild dogs roam the countryside. Against this backdrop, a young man, played by Toby Goodger, witnesses his father’s (Duncan Lacroix) savage murder at the hands of a gang of cannibals. When the killers steal the family’s medical supplies, leaving his gravely ill girlfriend (Hannah Khalique-Brown) at death’s door, he sets out on a relentless mission for revenge and recovery.

Riccardo Fusetti first hit our pages with his experimental short Generation – an innovative exploratory AI-generated story of human existence – and we’re delighted to welcome him back with his latest piece, Editorial. Working with the vibrant British-Bulgarian artist/actor Victoria Valcheva, Fusetti has crafted a visually dense, rapid fire short which moves from a frivolous, buoyant fashion editorial into something else entirely. The project emerged as an exploration of contrasting extremes of femininity, blending lo-fi aesthetics with high-end production values and Valcheva’s self-shot footage to create a disorienting yet cohesive narrative experience while adopting a visual language from a wide mix of formats, including AI-generated imagery. This technical diversity isn’t merely stylistic but thematically essential, and Fusetti’s approach allowed for the construction of a dense, multifaceted world far beyond the limitations of the project’s limited budget. Joining us for Editorial’s premiere, Fusetti tells Dn how...

Would you survive? Blue Fox Ent. has unveiled an official trailer for an indie survival thriller called Year 10, marking the feature directorial debut of British filmmaker Ben Goodger. It first premiered at FrightFest 2024 but it hasn't show up anywhere else. This will be on VOD in December if anyone thinks it looks good. 10 years after the fall of civilization, the few survivors have been driven to cannibalism. A young man must confront a violent tribe that has murdered his father and stolen the medicine that keeps his girlfriend alive. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic world, the film focuses on a man fighting wild dogs, nature, and other brutal humans in order to save his love. Starring Toby Goodger, Hannah Khalique-Brown, Duncan Lacroix, Alexander Anderson. I'm tired of these bland survival thrillers that are always "people will turn horrible and start eating each other!" Every time they all have the...

I first caught Rob Price’s tense short Strangers at the London Film Festival back in October where it stood out to me amongst the other shorts playing through its distinctively unnerving atmosphere. It follows a lonely dog walker as she ventures through a vast, open field. There she encounters a man who starts up a seemingly innocent conversation but as their chat unfolds, there may be more to him than meets the eye. What I really connected with in Price’s short is the dread-filled ambience he creates both through the dynamic between his characters and the darkened, disturbed cinematography he employs to display it. It really is a great example of how to create tension through each aspect of a film’s production. Directors Notes is stoked to present the premiere of Strangers in conjunction with a deep dive with director Price on the journey of making his short,...
