Ahead of Superman, audiences are revisiting, or perhaps watching for the first time, David Corenswet's previous big screen outing, 2024's Twisters. The disaster movie is currently climbing the charts on Prime Video.
Per FlixPatrol, Twisters is currently No. 5 on Prime Video's U.S. Top 10 Movies list, sitting just below The Accountant 2, The Accountant, Oblivion, and The Beekeeper, all of whom are making their debut on the list. Twisters has jumped up three spots from yesterday, where it was at No. 8. Coincidentally, No. 8 is where Twisters is currently sitting on Prime Video's Top 10 Overall list for the day, coming in under the series Clarkson's Farm, Motorheads, and The Better Sister and the aforementioned four movies.

After swirling through the box office and making an impact, Twisters spins its way onto a new streaming service. The long-awaited sequel to the award-winning original, Twister, debuts on Amazon Prime Video and finds instant success on the popular streamer.
Twisters debuted via Prime Video on Mar. 18, nearly eight months after its theatrical debut, and is already the top-ranked movie on the platform. The disaster film sequel's Prime Video success adds to its streaming prowess on Peacock, where it debuted last November and outperformed the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer with its early returns.
Coming nearly three decades after the Oscar-nominated Twister, Twisters is a standalone sequel to the original, not carrying over characters or storylines from the first film, though it maintains the movie's spirit. The film sees Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) return to storm chasing after a tragic event from her days as a meteorology student, looking to track a tornado...

Glen Powell has been just about everywhere lately, but chances are you might not recognize him in his latest role as Chad Powers. Hulu has dropped the first quick teaser for the upcoming half-hour comedy series, which is based on the character created by Eli Manning for his ESPN+ docuseries Eli’s Places. Powell looks damn near unrecognizable in the role, complete with a smattering of freckles and a wispy mustache.
The official description for the series reads: “When bad behavior nukes hotshot Qb Russ Holliday’s (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.” Production on the series has now officially started production.
Chad Powers comes from co-creators and executive producers Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, with Eli Manning serving as executive producer alongside Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, and ESPN. Powell also co-wrote the pilot episode with Waldron.

Billed as a standalone sequel, Twisters is set in the same universe as the 1996 blockbuster Twister, and the film features plenty of Easter eggs and references to the original franchise installment. Even though a cheap Helen Hunt cameo in Twisters isn't one of the many nods to the original film, director Lee Isaac Chung finds clever ways to pay homage to the iconic disaster movie. In Twister, Hunt plays Jo, a storm chaser who had a traumatic experience with a tornado as a child and, as a result, dedicates herself to studying the brutal (and terrifyingly random) storms.
Like its predecessor, Twisters' cast of characters is largely made up of storm chasers, including jaded meteorologist Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and thrill-seeking, social media-famous storm chaser Tyler Owens (Glenn Powell). Instead of trying to deploy a tornado research device like Jo, Bill (Bill Paxton), and the rest of Twister's storm chasers,...

After waiting nearly 30 years for a sequel, Twisters characters offer a fresh group of movie stars to the world of storm chasing. The original Twister follows a pair of married storm chasers who put themselves at the mercy of dust storms and tornadoes to implement a new weather alert system. The film was a box office triumph, grossing around $500 million, with much of this success attributed to Twisters memorable cast of Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, and Cary Elwes. Twisters seeks to match that effect with a cast of modern stars like Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos.
Twisters has been in development for a long time, with numerous writers and directors considered before landing on Minari director Lee Isaac Chung and The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith. Twisters star Glen Powell admits to being picky when a storm of movie role offers come his way. The acclaimed actor reveals that one of those roles was a spot in the upcoming Jurassic Park reboot, Jurassic World 4.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell explained why he opted against featuring in the Jurassic Park reboot film despite admiring the titular franchise. Though the screenplay enticed him, and he believes the reboot would "kill," Powell turned it down because he wanted to ensure any role he takes makes him and the audience "happy." Jurassic is one of my favorite movies. Its one of the things Ive wanted to do my whole life. Im not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesnt help it, he said. And the scripts great. The movies going to fucking kill. It's been nearly 30 years since tornadoes took the box office by storm with the arrival of the thrilling summer blockbuster "Twister," starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as a pair of estranged ex-lovers who also happen to be passionate storm chasers. Now, Universal Pictures is stirring the storms up yet again with "Twisters."
Though early reports indicated that "Twisters" would follow the daughter of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt's characters, it appears the movie is a stand-alone sequel without any characters from the original movie returning. There are plenty of ways to describe what happened at Caesars Palace on Wednesday when Universal Pictures delivered Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters to the Colosseum stage. Some examples: The film whipped up a frenzy; exclusive footage spun through Sin City; action scenes blew away theater owners, etc., etc.
All of the above work as Universal debuted never-before-seen scenes of the summer release courtesy of Chung and his castmembers Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, who turned up for an extended introduction.
Chung was first to walk out — an appearance that marked his first time at CinemaCon — and the director said that many in the audience might be wondering why he decided to jump into summer blockbuster tentpole territory after carving out a career in independent film. “I’ve been fascinated by tornadoes all my life,” he said, adding that he grew up in Arkansas, where tornadoes were just a way of life.

This summer, the epic studio disaster movie returns with the adrenaline-pumping, seat-gripping, big-screen thrill ride Twisters, a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster Twister, that puts you in direct contact with one of nature’s most wondrous—and destructive—forces from the producers of the Jurassic, Bourne and Indiana Jones series.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar-nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters stars Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.
Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming...

“Don’t breathe. Don’t look back,” commanded the tagline for the movie Twister from 1996. Apparently, that’s not a warning that Universal Pictures wants to heed. Instead, they’re looking back to the ’90s with a new adventure about storm chasers and the flying cows in their wake with the upcoming sequel Twisters.
That said, first trailer for Twisters features no familiar faces. Not only do we see no characters played by actors who sadly passed in the interim, such as Bill Paxton’s Bill or Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Rusty, but also missing is Helen Hunt’s protagonist Jo.
In their place is a new cast, primarily Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) as Kate Cooper and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Tyler Owens. Based on the trailer, the script by Mark L. Smith focuses on the braggart Tyler luring Kate back into the world of stormchasing after an expedition gone wrong.

The Twisters trailer doesn’t kick off slowly and build to a big tornado reveal. No, it cuts straight to the action, with a devastating tornado filling the trailer’s opening seconds.

Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung broke out with 2020’s “Minari,” which landed multiple Oscar nominations including two for Chung (Best Director and Best Original Screenplay) and Best Picture. (The film won an Oscar for Yuh-Jung Youn in Best Supporting Actress.) Now, four years later, Chung is back and with an expected follow-up: “Twisters,” a sequel to 1996’s blockbuster hit “Twister.”
Universal debuted the first trailer for “Twisters” during Sunday’s Super Bowl, and the spot immediately spiked online interest in Chung’s first studio picture thanks to the way the spot teases the film’s massive set pieces and star appeal courtesy of Glen Powell. The actor, who helped “Anyone But You” become a sleeper hit and pops off the screen in Netflix’s “Hit Man” (out June 7), plays a storm chaser named Tyler Owens who helps “Twisters” protagonist Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) regain her mojo after a tragedy. You've got to feel a little sorry for Anthony Ramos, who had been presumably looking to ride his Hamilton time into a bigger film career, doing great work in In The Heights and paying his dues in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts. But here comes the first Twisters trailer, dropped during the Super Bowl, and it's (primarily) all about Glen Powell. See the windy new promo here:
Described as "a current-day chapter" that follows the 1996 disaster movie (no word on whether any of the original cast will cameo or otherwise show up), Twisters follows Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, who used to chase storms, but prefers to study their patterns from a screen in New York following a tragic twister encounter.
Yet – because watching her look at a computer wouldn't make for much of a movie — she's lured back to the open plains by pal Javi (Ramos), who has a...

Twisters pays homage to the groundbreaking technology created by Jo and Bill in the original Twister, showcasing their legacy in the field of storm chasing. While the original actors may not appear in the sequel, Twisters can still incorporate their characters in various ways, such as through cameos or references to their contributions to storm hunting. It is important for Twisters to honor the legacy of Jo and Bill Harding, not only for their scientific achievements but also for their significance to the franchise itself.
The first trailer for Twisters dropped during the Super Bowl and the sequel is already making it clear it will honor Helen Hunt's Jo and Bill Paxton's Bill from the original Twister. Twisters is not a remake or reboot of the original Twister, but a standalone sequel. The film features a new generation of storm chasers and an impressive supporting cast. While it can be enjoyed without seeing the original, Twisters will have callbacks to the '90s classic that fans will appreciate.
In 2020, Universal Pictures announced a remake of the 1996 disaster film Twister. However, the team behind the upcoming 2024 movie, Twisters, has clarified the project's connection to the original film. Written by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), Twister centers on Jo Harding (Helen Hunt), a woman who becomes obsessed with chasing storms after an F5 tornado kills her father. Several decades after the incident that both inspired and devastated Jo, the tornado-obsessed meteorologist leads a team dedicated to revolutionizing their field. Jo is also joined by her estranged husband Bill (Bill Paxton), an ex-storm-chaser-turned-tv-weatherman.
