Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd has said that he wishes Graham Linehan was writing more after The It Crowd creator claimed he was canceled for his transgender views.
O’Dowd shot to fame in The It Crowd and told The Times of London that he still gets a lot of love for the comedy, which was broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 between 2006 and 2013.
The Irish actor said he remains in contact with Linehan and wishes the writer had not been shunned by the industry after expressing gender-critical beliefs.
“I wish he was writing more, and I wish he was in the industry more. I think he’s the best comedy writer I’ve worked with,” O’Dowd said.
“I don’t necessarily want to get into his views, but I do think that it’s a shame that more people don’t go and talk to him about them...

Graham Norton has apparently responded to John Cleese’s complaints of cancel culture.
The Monty Python star has long railed against what he considers to be “cancel culture” and has decried “woke” values being a part of media and entertainment.
Earlier this week, Cleese was announced as the presenter of a new show on Gb News, to be hosted alongside comedian Andrew Doyle.
When speaking about it on Radio 4’s Today on Monday (10 October), the comedian explained that although he hadn’t been familiar with the broadcaster when they approached him, he learned of the channel as one focused on “free speech”, rather than being specifically right-wing.
During a recent appearance at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, Norton is said to have touched upon the idea of “cancel culture” and Cleese’s outspoken views.

Comedy star John Cleese is returning to British TV by making a show for right-leaning channel Gb News.
The Monty Python and Fawlty Towers star, who campaigns against “wokeism” and “cancel culture,” will become a presenter on the network, which launched in the UK last year with an ethos to present an alternative to rivals by focusing partly on culture wars content.
Cleese will debut on the channel next year, working alongside satirist Andrew Doyle on the currently unnamed program. Together they will encourage “proper argument,” said Cleese.
