This fall sees the long-awaited release of The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s high-octane adaptation of the Stephen King novel. The action-thriller stars Glen Powell in the role of Ben Richards, a desperate everyman forced to enter a deadly game show in a not-so-distant dystopian America — and judging by our intense exclusive image, things are not going well for him. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event, we're delighted to reveal a new look at Powell in the film. We can also share a delightful chat we had with Wright, one of the world's most exciting directors of kinetic and stylized action.
Wright, known for genre-defining cult favorites like Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, is promising something darker and more faithful to King’s original story — and a whole lot rougher than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger version. Glen Powell may be closing the door on ever joining the ranks of superpowered heroes in the Marvel or DC universes.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star revealed he's not particularly drawn to roles that involve capes, cosmic powers, or mutant abilities.
“I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell explained, discussing what led him to take on the role of Richards in the upcoming remake of The Running Man. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.”
Powell's comments seem to dash fan hopes of seeing him play characters like Aquaman or Nova, popular choices in recent fancast discussions.

The full trailer for The Running Man is finally here, and it’s already making waves. Directed by Edgar Wright, this new version of the story looks intense, gritty, and full of action. It’s not a remake of the old 1987 movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Instead, it’s based more closely on the original 1982 novel by Stephen King, written under his pen name, Richard Bachman.
Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, the main character who ends up on a brutal game show where survival is the only way to win. Contestants get hunted down on live TV while the world watches. If they make it out alive, they get a big cash prize. But most don’t. The whole thing takes place in a broken-down future where the show is the biggest thing on television, and people are glued to it.

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer, teaser poster and film stills for Edgar Wright’s long-gestating update of The Running Man, setting social media alight ahead of its 7 November 2025 release in Dolby Cinema, 4Dx, ScreenX, Premium Large Formats and IMAX.
The original 1987 blockbuster, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as desperate everyman Ben Richards, transformed Stephen King’s dystopian novella into an all-out satirical bloodsport, and Wright’s version promises to honour that spirit while injecting his trademark kinetic humour and visual flair.
This time, Hollywood’s rising star Glen Powell steps into the role of Richards, a factory worker driven to enter a lethal televised game show when his young daughter’s medical bills spiral out of control. Josh Brolin reprises the role of the charmingly ruthless producer Dan Killian, the architect of a nationwide spectacle in which “Runners” must evade professional assassins for thirty days in order to claim a life-changing cash prize.

The countdown is on. The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s The Running Man has arrived — and with it, Glen Powell is officially stepping into the arena. The action-packed reimagining of Stephen King’s dystopian classic hits theaters on November 7, and the new footage promises a brutal, breathless ride with Powell leading the charge as Ben Richards, a desperate man forced to survive a state-sanctioned death game for a shot at saving his daughter.
Powell, 36, isn’t the only one impressed by what Wright’s cooked up. At this year’s CinemaCon, none other than Tom Cruise watched the teaser alongside Powell — and according to Powell, the Mission: Impossible icon was blown away.
“Watching that teaser with Tom Cruise is a memory I will never forget. He was so stoked after watching it. What’s been amazing about my relationship with Tom is the fact he’s a guy that doesn’t hide his excitement.

Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Last year, Wright’s film entered production with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role. Filming wrapped in the early months of this year, with the movie aiming for a November 7th theatrical release – and today, the first trailer has dropped online! You can check it out in the embed above.

Last year, Wright’s take on the material began filming with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role. Production wrapped in the early months of this year, with the movie aiming for a November 7th theatrical release. While we wait to see how this new movie has turned out, Schwarzenegger has said in an interview that he’s hoping the remake will be better than the original.

Edgar Wright and Glen Powell’s highly anticipated remake of The Running Man is officially slated for a theatrical release on November 7, 2025. Naturally, the new film will be compared to the 1987 cult favorite that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Although the original adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian novel has maintained a loyal fanbase over the years, Schwarzenegger recently acknowledged that the upcoming remake has a real chance to surpass his version by addressing its past limitations.
In a new interview with Cbr, Schwarzenegger discusses the upcoming remake, touching on some weak points in the original that he thinks Wright and Powell's film can improve upon.

After a bit of uncertainty from Warner Bros. Discovery over the budget, All American is heading back to the gridiron one final time. The young adult series is officially lined up for an eighth season at The CW, with showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and co-showrunner Jamie Turner returning to lead the charge in what will be the final chapter of the Baker family's story. The news comes just under a month after a cliffhanger Season 7 finale that left the door wide open for more high school football drama, assuming the higher-ups were game. A premiere date hasn't been set yet, but The CW has confirmed the final 13 episodes will be released sometime in 2026.
Season 7 completely changed the game for All American, after the series had largely followed the rise of Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) from high school star to Super Bowl champion by the end of Season 6. With his story...

It's not the end of the road for All American just yet. The CW has renewed the fan-favorite sports drama series for a 13-episode eighth and final season, which will debut in 2026.
Per Variety, The CW confirming thatAll American will end after Season 8 means that, come 2026, there will be no scripted series left on the network that premiered before its acquisition by Nexstar. The renewal also keeps All American on the air far longer than any of the other remaining CW originals that launched prior to Nextstar's purchase, as Superman & Lois, Walker, and All American: Homecoming all concluded in 2024. Under Nexster, The CW has primarily focused on reality and unscripted content, with much of its scripted slate coming in the form of licensed content and/or co-productions from companies in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The CW show All American’s season 8 renewal comes with some sad news about the fate of the show. The sports drama All American is the last scripted show on the CW from before Nexstar's acquisition, and the show is widely considered one of the greats. Even though Daniel Ezra's Spencer James was originally the focus of the show, many characters exited before All American, forcing the show to shift focus to Michael Evans Behling's Jordan, Greta Onieogou's Layla, and Bre-z's Coop in season 7.
Not even a major narrative change could keep the series down, with All American season 7's cliffhanger ending keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Luckily, just one month after the release of season 7's finale, Varietyhas confirmed that All American will return for season 8, which will unfortunately be its last. Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Given His Blessings to His 38-Year-Old Stephen King Adaptation Replacement

While actors often disapprove of their original work being remade or spoofed, Powell recently revealed that they have already secured the Austrian Oak’s approval.

A popular sports drama on The CW returns to Netflix's Top 10 US streaming charts at the wait for season 8 of the long-running series continues. The streaming platform is home to a multitude of sports-related content, from Netflix original sports documentaries like football docuseries Last Chance U, to dramas like the wrestling series Glow. These original productions are just small parts of the larger ecosystem of Netflix, some of which also focuses on other shows and movies found in their sports category.
Another constant of the platform has been hosting content from other places, with one focus being primetime TV shows on various networks. The CW shows on Netflix, for example, has been a long-standing part of the streaming service, with everything from the Arrowverse shows, to The 100, to Supernatural having a home on the platform. Despite many of these series being over, this partnership between both networks has continued for quite some time.
