‘Ring of Honor: Final Battle 2024’ PPV Review
Image
Welcome to our review of this year’s Ring of Honor Final Battle pay-per-view, the latest Roh PPV under the auspices of Tony Khan’s ownership. Roh still doesn’t have a TV, which is a crying shame but production continues apace on what some might say is the “Dark” to Aew’s main programming these days.

The show opened with the usual “Zero Hour” on YouTube that saw the Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) defeat Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & John Silver); Stardom’s Hanako beat Harley Cameron; The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) beat The Infantry (Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo); and Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) defeat Leej (Lee Johnson & Ej Nduka). With that said, let’s see what went down on the rest of this show…

Match #1: Atlantis Jr. def. Mansoor The following is courtesy of ringofhonor.com:

Mansoor took down Atlantis with an inside wristlock takeover.

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (Apr 11th 2023)
Image
Another week, another episode of Aew: Dark which this week features just four matches – matching this week’s Elevation. Let’s see what went down…

Match #1: Matt Taven def. Brian Pillman Jr.

My Thoughts: An impressive opening match with Brian Pillman holding his own against the more experienced Taven – which I honestly did not expect. Pillman, in the few solo matches he’s had recently, has shown a new side to his character and seems to have come on leaps and bounds with his skills too.

My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Lee Johnson def. Blake Li

My Thoughts: It’s Lee versus Li in a squash match to the death… No, seriously, this was your typical Aew squash match. with Li getting at least one movie in before Lee took over and ended the match in swift fashion.

My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #3: Josh Woods def. Daisy...

‘Aew Dark: Elevation – Episode 104’ Review
Image
Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, which features seven matches on the card once again. We’ve got regulars Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary as usual. So let’s get into the review!

Match #1: Emi Sakura def. Rachelle Riveter

My Thoughts: Nice to see Emi Sakura Open an episode of Elevation, though as usual she’s squashing her opponent. Well I say this is a squash, but this is the trademark-pending “Aew quasi-squash”, with Sakura giving Rachelle Riveter just enough space to get some offence in and not look totally weak. Which, if I’m honest, is always a trait of Sakura’s matches – she allows her opponent, no matter who it is, to show off their skills. Unlike some other people on the roster!

My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: The Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven) def. Ej Sparks and Aguila Aguirre...

‘Aew Dark: Elevation – Episode 97’ Review
Image
Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, which features 11 matches on this week’s show – urghhhh, I’m not a fan of these longer cards, especially given most matches are usually squashes! We’ve got Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary, so let’s get into the review.

Match #1: Brian Cage def. Schaff

My Thoughts: As this started I thought “here we go, another Brian Cage squash” but that is Not what we got! The crowd in attendance were clearly behind Schaff and so we actually got something of a competitive match, with Cage letting Schaff showcase his stuff for those unfamiliar with his work. In the end that made for a great match!

My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) def. Bollywood Boyz (Harv and Gurv)

My Thoughts: I’m not going to lie, when it comes to The...

‘Roh: Final Battle 2022’ PPV Review
Image
Welcome to our review of this year’s Ring of Honor Final Battle pay-per-view, the latest PPV under the auspices of Tony Khan – a year after Roh’s future looked bleak during the last Final Battle show! Let’s see what went down…

Roh Final Battle – Zero Hour: Match #1: Jeff Cobb def. Mascara Dorada The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:

Mascara Dorada jumped off the ropes with a Mexican arm drag takeover on Cobb. Outside the ring, Cobb caught Dorada and smashed him into the steel ring post! Cobb went to work on the ribs and back of Dorada, trying to neutralize him. Dorada ducked a clothesline and hit Cobb with a spectacular tornillo over the top rope on Cobb! Dorada followed up with a springboard senton onto Cobb for a near fall! Cobb yanked Dorada off the top rope and squashed Dorada with a standing moonsault for a two-count.

‘Aew Dark: Elevation – Episode 92.5’ Review
Image
Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, this is a special (and short) bonus episode in the build-up to Roh: Final Battle 2022. We’ve got Tony Schiavone, Paul Wight, and Matt Menard on commentary [again], so let’s get into the review.

Match #1: The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) def. Sal Muscat and Ativalu

My Thoughts: Roh stalwarts The Kingdom get a pre-ppv warm-up match. Well, I say warm-up match but you can’t really warm anything up when you’re squashing your opponents in a quick match, can you? I don’t know what it is about The Kingdom but the team really doesn’t resonate with me at all… Though Nerdly’s Kev is a big fan, so there’s that!

My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Athena def. Madi Wrenkowski

My Thoughts: Another match, another squash! Good to see Madi Wrenkowski back on Aew...

Aew News: 3 New Wrestlers Had Contact With WWE Before Signing
Image
The Kingdom appears to be in line for a solid push now that they've signed with Aew, but it sounds like Tony Khan wasn't the only wrestling promoter who sought out the trio's services. On October 14, the group of Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, and valet Maria Kanellis-Bennett made their debut for All Elite Wrestling during an episode of Friday Night Rampage. They challenged Ftr to a match and appear to be in league with The Embassy. Wardlow and Samoa Joe got involved during that segment to even the odds, but it's unclear what will come of the interactions between these four teams.

What has been made clear is that WWE had contacted Matt, Mike, and Maria before their signing multi-year deals with Aew. This is according to Fightful Select, which reported the following: "The Kingdom are All Elite, but there was at least contact with WWE. Shortly after the trio left Impact Wrestling,...

Mox charged at Menard in the ring but Menard countered with forearms. Moxley countered a piledriver but Parker wiped out Mox outside the ring as the ref was distracted by Menard. Dreamer counters a springboard cutter from Bey into a cutter of his own. Bully hits a sidewalk slam on Robinson but Bey breaks the count. Bully lays out Robinson with the Bully Bomb to win!
