Quentin Tarantino has decided that he’s only going to direct ten feature films, then retire from that part of his career. For a full year, we were hearing that his tenth and final film was going to be something called The Movie Critic, which would reunite him with Brad Pitt, reprising the role of stuntman Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But then, Tarantino decided to scrap the project. Given that Pitt won an Oscar for playing Cliff Booth, he was understandably disappointed that the movie wouldn’t be happening – and, in a shocking turn of events, he got Tarantino to agree to let another director bring the script for The Movie Critic to the screen! For the perennial NFL sponsor Bud Light, Peyton Manning and a distinctly slapstick sense of humor appear to have brewed up a winning formula.

The adult beverage brand, also one of the biggest advertisers in the U.S., is kicking off its 2025-2026 NFL campaign this week, once again turning to Peyton Manning for a sixth spot for the company.

According to Todd Allen, senior vp, marketing for Bud Light at Anheuser-Busch, the campaign can actually be traced to the Netflix series Quarterback, which is produced by Manning’s Omaha Productions, and which Bud Light partnered on via a social campaign called “Armchair Quarterback.”

“We parodied the great lengths the quarterbacks were going through with our own version of a digital comedic short with Armchair Quarterback showing the great lengths our fans are going to for their favorite team,” Allen says. “So we’re kind of taking that theme into the regular season now.

It’s after August 1st, which means that the news of who will be in Season 51 of Saturday Night Live could start trickling out any day now. That’s because August 1st is the official deadline for contracts of returning cast to be signed, which means that those who aren’t renewing or being asked back will start announcing their departures from the show. And they, of course, will then need to be replaced with someone new.

No one is saying that it’s easy to be a crowd-pleasing comic. Finding that line can be brutal. Taking no risks makes you boring, taking too many will have you in the internet’s crosshairs. That’s not really a career ender these days, but it’s still not enjoyable.

Shane Gillis is someone who steps into controversy relatively often; he got fired from Saturday Night Live in 2019 for making racist and sexist jokes, and his vein of humor can sometimes be edgelord adjacent. I’m sure if more people watched Tires on Netflix, they’d be angry about it.

Gillis is still popular — he’s got the Netflix show, he’s a semi-regular host of SNL despite his firing, and this week he was the host of the ESPYs. His performance, both to the room of highly lauded athletes up for awards and the nation, caused a few dustups.

The CBS cancellation of Stephen Colbert and Late Night more broadly has brought the ire of the internet. The story has completely dominated the news cycle, even taking away from the joy of finding out that Donald Trump is dealing with swollen ankles and venous insufficiencies. Wall-to-wall coverage and panic about whether axing Colbert is the final marker in the race to total fascist takeover is going to benefit some people, while others are really, really not faring well from the pandemonium.

Fortunately, the honorees delivered enough inspiration and muscular prowess — see: rugby star Ilona Maher, who was honored as breakthrough athlete of the year — to offset the edgy jabs aimed at women in the monologue from ESPYs host Shane Gillis.

I ran into ESPN chief Jimmy Pitaro in the Dolby lobby after the ESPYs were over. We talked about the very big, somewhat complicated sales pitch that the Worldwide Leader is preparing to lob at consumers as it launches its standalone ESPN streaming app later this fall.

The 2025 Espy Awards will likely be remembered for Shane Gillis’ monologue, even if the comedy was largely forgettable.

Gillis, a standup comedian and the co-creator and star of Netflix’s Tires, is probably best known for lasting like four hours at Saturday Night Live — Lorne Michaels felt compelled to fire Gillis after some non-pc clips of a 2018 episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast were resurfaced — though he has gone on to host the show, twice.

By now, you’ve probably read both praise and criticism on Gillis’ monologue — he’s that kind of comic. Gillis is wildly popular among his base, and controversial among non-fans. This was always gonna go some sort of way, and ESPN executives knew that when they gave Gillis the gig. Brooks Nader suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the ESPYs on Wednesday, her second wardrobe malfunction in July.

While on the red carpet, Nader’s white silk dress pulled to the side, resulting in a nip-slip in front of the cameras.

Pictures were taken of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model fixing her dress while walking onto the stage with Joey Logano.

Last year, Nader was reportedly dating NFL icon Tom Brady.

Nader previously experienced a wardrobe malfunction at Wimbledon, with stains showing through on her white skirt. She turned what could have been an embarrassing situation to her advantage, securing a sponsorship with the feminine hygiene brand U by Kotex.

Back in February, President Donald Trump gave a glowing review to Gillis after the two shook hands and took a picture at Super Bowl Lix at the Superdome in New Orleans. Despite how the wealthiest and most worshipped celebrities in our country often refused to laugh at themselves, Gillis’ material, unlike his stage presence, was actually rock-solid more often than not, and he capped off the up-and-down monologue with a tribute to the greatest ESPYs host ever and a jab at said legend’s favorite punching bag.

On June 24, it was announced that comedian Shane Gillis would be hosting this year’s Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards. The news was met with some excitement among fans, but when he walked onto the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, things changed.

Host Shane Gillis brought his trademark brand of combative humor to the opening monologue of Wednesday night’s Espy Awards in Hollywood, drawing a mixed response from the audience of professional athletes and Hollywood celebrities.

Since its premiere, the comedy series has released a new season every year, and that will continue to be true for Season 3, as well, which will return in 2026. Bert Kreischer has made five stand-up specials for Netflix, and now he’s taking the time-honored path trod by many comedians: starring in a sitcom.

Kreischer will play the title role in and is a co-creator of Free Bert, a six-episode comedy the streamer has ordered. Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (The Grinder, Huge in France) co-created the show with Kreischer and will serve as showrunners, writers and directors. The cast also includes Arden Myrin, Lilou Lang and Ava Ryan.

In Free Bert, Kreischer will play a version of himself — a “shirtless comedian, party legend, perpetual wildcard,” as the show’s logline puts it. He finds himself in unfamiliar territory when his daughters (Lang and Ryan) are accepted at an elite private school in Beverly Hills. When his antics turn the family into outcasts, he decides to put a shirt on and stifle his true self in order to fit in.

Bert Kreischer is the star and co-creator of a new scripted comedy series on Netflix titled “Free Bert.”

The perpetually shirtless stand-up comedian plays a version of himself in the six-episode show, which finds Bert in a sticky situation after his daughters enroll in an elite Beverly Hills private school and his “unbridled antics turn his family into outcasts.” In order to fit in, Bert decides to finally put on a shirt and suppress his true self.

Kreischer will star alongside Arden Myrin, Ava Ryan (“Keeping Up With the Joneses”) and newcomer Lilou Lang.

He serves as co-creator and executive producer alongside Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogul, who together are the showrunners, writers and directors. Executive producers also include Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns and Elise Henderson for Counterpart Studios, as well as LeeAnn Kreischer and Judi Marmel.

Kreischer is a mainstay at Netflix with five stand-up comedy specials, including 2025’s “Lucky.
