Netflix Has Decided the Fate of David Letterman’s 81% Rt Rated Talk Show ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’
Image
Netflix has officially renewed the Emmy-winning talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, for two additional seasons, with Season 6 set to premiere later this year. The renewal news comes after the show’s critically acclaimed fifth season and its 2024 Emmy win for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special. The series, which originally launched in 2018 with President Barack Obama as its first guest — it's a surprise it didn't only go downhill from there, if we're honest — has since evolved into one of the most acclaimed interview shows on streaming.

In a format far removed from the nightly grind of Letterman’s Late Show reign, each episode of My Next Guest dives deep into the personal and professional lives of high-profile guests — one at a time, and often on location. So far, the show has featured 27 episodes across five seasons with guests ranging from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert Downey Jr.,...

‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman’ Renewed For Seasons 6 & 7 At Netflix
Image
David Letterman is going to continue chatting to folks on Netflix.

The former host of The Late Show received a two-season renewal for his My Next Guest Needs No Introduction series from the streamer.

The deal brings the show through to season seven with season six premiering later this year.

It’s not clear how many episodes each season will be. The show has had a fluctuating episode order with season one consisting of six episodes, season two was five episodes, season three was four episodes, season four was six episodes and season five was three episodes. There have also been a number of specials.

Letterman has interviewed the likes of Barack Obama, Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jay-Z, Robert Downey Jr., Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Dave Chappelle, Miley Cyrus, Caitlin Clark, and Billie Eilish.

The show won the Emmy for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special last year, beating shows such as Conan O’Brien Must Go,...

David Letterman’s ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’ Renewed for 2 Seasons at Netflix
Image
Fans of David Letterman’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” need not worry, because Netflix just renewed the talk show for two seasons on Thursday.

Season 6 is set to premiere later in 2025, with Season 7 to come further down the line. The series debuted in 2018 and has aired 24 episodes, three specials and two bonus episodes across five seasons. Most recently, Letterman interviewed Caitlin Clark in April.

“Combining humor, curiosity and in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman’ has Letterman back in the host’s chair, following a 33-year reign in late night,” Netflix teased in a press release.

“My Next Guest” has also been nominated for six Emmys thus far, winning for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special in 2024.

Executive producers include Tom Keaney and Mary Barclay for Worldwide Pants; Justin Wilkes and Yolanda T. Cochran for Jax Media/Imagine Entertainment; and Séamus Murphy-Mitchell,...

‘Gattaca’ Series Adaptation & Mandy Patinkin Comedy ‘Seasoned’ Scrapped At Showtime Along With Two Development Projects
Image
Showtime has scrapped a number of greenlit originals including the series remake of Gattaca from Homeland co-creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and Seasoned, a comedy starring real-life husband and wife Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody.

It is also not moving forward with two development projects – Sweetness and Split. Sweetness comes from Nick Stoller and Promising Young Woman Oscar winner Emerald Fennell and is a female-driven anthology project. It comes out of Stoller’s overall deal with Sony Pictures TV, which will shop elsewhere. Not much is known about Split.

The move comes after Showtime merged with Paramount+ on the streaming side and follows the cancelation of other series ahead of their debut including Three Women, which moved to Starz, and Ripley, which moved to Netflix.

It is the latest cull as part of a cost-cutting drive across Paramount, following the move to pull a raft of series from its...

Showtime Cancels ‘Ziwe’ After Two Seasons, Orders Mandy Patinkin’s ‘Seasoned’ to Series; ‘The Wood’ TV Adaptation No Longer Moving Forward
Image
A series of changes have taken place at Showtime. Variety has confirmed the network has canceled “Ziwe” after just two seasons and has picked up Mandy Patinkin’s “Seasoned” to series, delivering a six-episode order.

Hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, the talk show focused on presenting trending hot topics concerning race, politics and other cultural issues as well as musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and comedic sketches. Guests on Season 2 included Drew Barrymore, Rowan Blanchard, Blake Griffin, Emily Ratajkowski and Mia Khalifa, among others. The series first debuted in 2021.

With the loss, that leaves Showtime without a current late night talk show following the cancellation of “Desus & Mero” (which Ziwe also served as a writer on before moving to her own show). The changes come as part of Showtime’s reevaluation of the programming slate after MTV Entertainment Group president and CEO Chris McCarthy stepped in...

‘Heist 88’ Moves To Showtime As Network Picks Up ‘Seasoned’ To Series, Passes On ‘The Wood’ & Cancels ‘Ziwe’ After 2 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance’s film Heist 88, which had been earmarked for Paramount+, will be moving to Showtime, Deadline has learned. Additionally, I hear the network has made decisions on two of its three comedy pilots, handing a six-episode series order to Seasoned, starring Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody, and passing on The Wood, based on the 1999 feature film. Showtime also has opted not to renew Ziwe, hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, for a third season.

Paramount Television Studios, which produces The Wood, will be shopping it elsewhere.

Original movies were a staple on Showtime in the 1980s, 90s and 2000s until the network shifted to original series. The network recently returned to the genre after a14-year break with Ray Donovan: The Movie. Heist 88, which stars Vance, falls into one of the three new programming lanes for Showtime recently outlined by Chris McCarthy,...

Sarah Monteith, CEO of Steve Coogan’s Production Company Baby Cow, Teases New Alan Partridge, Eyes U.S. Expansion
Image
Baby Cow are the production company behind some of the U.K.’s best-loved comedy shows, including “Gavin and Stacey” with James Corden and Ruth Jones, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s “The Mighty Boosh” and “This Time With Alan Partridge” starring Steve Coogan as the cringe-worthy fictional television host.

It was a prescient Coogan who founded Baby Cow alongside producer Henry Normal in 1998, long before talent-led production companies were a thing. In 2016 BBC Studios took a majority stake in the company, with Coogan staying on as a shareholder and creative director. He also stars in many (although not all) of the company’s projects – which span TV, film, comedy and drama – including the recent Channel 4 series “Chivalry,” in which he plays an old-school film producer getting to grips with a changing world opposite Sarah Solemani, and upcoming feature film “The Lost King,” about an amateur historian who finds...

Mandy Patinkin & Kathryn Grody to Star in ‘Seasoned’ Comedy Pilot at Showtime
Image
Real-life married couple Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) and Kathryn Grody (The Lemon Sisters) will star in the Seasoned pilot for Showtime. The comedy is inspired by their actual relationship, which is adorably documented on Patinkin’s TikTok with the help of their son, Gideon Grody-Patinkin, who is also one of the new show’s creators. Seasoned will be a half-hour comedy following “the delightfully tumultuous relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple played by Patinkin and Grody — roles they’ve been rehearsing for the last 43 years,” the logline describes, per Deadline. “The source of their unending magic is the same as their unending woe: that they’ve stayed together all this time.” The series is created by Ewen Wright and Grody-Patinkin. The couple and their son will executive produce the pilot along with Wright (who will also direct), Tony Hernandez, Brooke Posch, and Isabel Richardson.

Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody’s lives and relationship have inspired a Showtime scripted comedy.
