"Crypto Boy" is the Dutch-produced live-action feature, written and directed by Shady El-Hamus, set in the world of 'cryptocurrency', starring Shahine El-Hamus, Sabri Saad El-Hamus and Minne Koole, now streaming on Netflix:

It’s always the father-son stories that get me. Bicycle Thieves, This Boy’s Life and The Pursuit of Happyness, to name a few. There are so many more. There is just something about them, and the ones I named are at the top of the list, if you know what I mean. Even the ones that are a little shoddy at times generate a lot of emotions in me, especially if they feature a conflict between a father and a son. Netflix’s Crypto Boy has a nice template for its story to work. The beats are there, and the film is shot very well.

Crypto Boy‘s plot revolves around Omar and Amir. There is a bit in the names as well. Amir, the only son of the widower Omar, has great ambition in him, not just to earn money but to ‘generate wealth’, a catchphrase heard at a convention related to cryptocurrency.

CBS Studios has begun rolling cameras in the Netherlands on its series “Bestseller Boy” for Dutch broadcaster Avrotros.

The contemporary comedy drama is inspired by the eponymous best-selling novel and the real life of rising literary star Mano Bouzamour, and his struggles as a Dutch-Moroccan millennial navigating two cultures, overnight success and identity in Amsterdam. Emerging talent Shahine El-Hamus, who starred in “Promise of Pisa” and recently won the Golden Calf Award for best actor at the Netherlands Film Festival, will play the lead role of Momo Zebbi.

Created by producer Robert Alberdingk Thijm (“A’dam & Eva”) and Bouzamour, “Bestseller Boy” is written by Thijm and Bouzamour and directed by Norbert ter Hall and Sharif Abdel Mawla. Alon Aranya (“Tehran”) serves as executive producer alongside Hall and Bouzamour.
