Surveilled Tracks Ronan Farrow as He Investigates Commercial Spyware
Image
The HBO Original documentary Surveilled, produced by Ronan Farrow and produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Matthew O’Neill and Perri Peltz, will debut on Wednesday, November 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt), on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.

Surveilled tracks Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ronan Farrow as he investigates the growing business of commercial spyware, following the story from New York City to Tel Aviv, Israel, a center of espionage cyber technology.

Once a target of covert surveillance himself, Farrow explores the multi-billion-dollar industry, addressing the contradictory uses and implications of phone hacking – the ability to monitor criminal activity and the attendant threats to civil liberties.

Commercial spyware, capable of taking full control of cell phones without the owners’ knowledge and long billed as a tool purchased by governments to fight terrorism, is now appearing on the phones of activists, journalists, politicians, and ordinary people.

First Trailer For ‘Two Lovers and a Bear’ Starring Tatiana Maslany and Dane DeHaan
After a promising initial line-up, the Toronto International Film Festival has delivered more titles with their full Canadian slate. Among the line-up is Xavier Dolan‘s It’s Only the End of the World, Bruce MacDonald‘s new feature Weirdos, Deepa Mehta‘s Anatomy of Violence, as well as Two Lovers and a Bear, starring Tatiana Maslany and Dane DeHaan, which we have the first trailer for today.

We said in our review from Cannes, “Kim Nguyen’s Two Lovers and a Bear is a film that suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Like an indie playlist stuck on constant shuffle, unapologetically reveling in a sort of manic unclassifiable genre. This isn’t always necessarily a bad thing, but, for some reason, Nguyen’s scattershot tonal shifts — which hop between a romance on the rocks; a self-serious study of grieving; and a surreal buddy comedy — can prove quite jarring.
