The South Australian Film Corporation has announced a new suite of initiatives designed to address the gender imbalance in the screen industry and bolster the careers of both established and emerging South Australian female practitioners.

The initiatives, known as the Safc Gender Agenda, focus on a number of areas including leadership, mentorship, attachments and workshops.

Safc Gender Agenda has been formulated in response to the data demonstrating that women in the screen industries both globally and in Australia are still significantly underrepresented in key creative roles.

Safc CEO Annabelle Sheehan said every state had unique structural issues that it faced in relation to bringing gender equality to the screen industry.

Girl Asleep is a Pretty in Pink meets Where The Wild Things Are anti-fairy tale that explores the bizarre and fantastical corners of one teen’s overactive imagination. Rosemary Myers’ quirky retro film is adapted from a screenplay by Matthew Whittet (who first wrote it as a stage production) and stars Whittet, Bethan Whitmore, Tilly Cobham-Hervy, Imogen Archer, Harrison Feldman, Amber McMahon, Eamon Farren, Maiah Stewardston.

Exclusive: Berlin competition entry Being 17 among six titles acquired by Metrodome at Efm.

UK distributor Metrodome has finalised six deals from the Efm in Berlin including André Téchiné- Celine Sciamma drama Being 17 and fantasy-romance Angel, both from Elle Driver for all UK and Irish distribution rights.

Téchiné directs the Berlin competition title Being 17, a project he co-wrote with Girlhood director Sciamma.

The French-language film follows the tense relationship between two boys whose lives intertwine until they unexpectedly find themselves living under the same roof.

Sandrine Kiberlain, Kacey Mottet Klein and Corentin Fila star. Producers are Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc of Fidélité Films, co-producers are Wild Bunch and France 2 Cinema.

Fantasy romance Angel is directed by actor-director Harry Cleven and stars Elina Lowensohn, Fleur Geffrier, Hannah Boudru and Maya Dory.

The screenplay is written by Thomas Gunzig (The Brand New Testament) and the film is produced by Jaco Van Dormael and Terra Incognita Films’ Olivier Rausin and Daniel Marquet...

More than a dozen titles announced ahead of the unveiling of the full programme next month.

A total of 13 feature films produced or co-produced in 13 different countries have been selected to participate in competition in Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus.

The full programme for Generation will be announced in mid-January. The films selected so far feature young individuals whose inner lives are in turmoil.

Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Imogen Archer, who made their debuts in Sophie Hyde.s 52 Tuesdays, have been cast in Windmill Theatre.s first feature, coming-of-age drama Girl Asleep.

Based on Matthew Whittet.s play which premiered at the 2014 Adelaide Festival, the film follows the chronically shy Greta Driscoll (Bethany Whitmore), whose 15th birthday party is spoilt when an uninvited guest steals her most treasured possession. Her attempts to retrieve it take her into a dark unknown world.

Whittet wrote the screenplay, the director is Rosemary Myers, who staged the play, and the producer is Jo Dyer (Lucky Miles; Boy Castaways). The four‐week shoot starts on January 19.

The investors are the South Australian Film Corporation, the Ian Potter Foundation and the Hive Production Fund, a collaboration between the Adelaide Film Festival, the Australia Council for the Arts, Screen Australia and ABC Arts.

It was another great year at the Sundance Film Festival! There were so many fantastic movies shown, and I still have a couple more to go. I'm really happy to say that Miles Teller and J.K. Simmon's film Whiplash took home the top two prizes, winning the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. This was my number one favorite film from the festival, and it seems like everyone else at the festival loved it too, so it doesn't surprise me that it won.

Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash was Day 1 feel good buzz title of the fest that ultimately served as a measuring stick for the other competing 15 titles in the section and as predicted below had a good chance at doing what last year’s Fruitvale did: when both major awards of its category. Now that I’ve completed a 15 hour nap, I can watch the ceremony below – and you can spoil the suspense by simply going over the other award winners in the multiple categories below.
