Michael Mike Canon
- Producer
- Writer
- Director
Michael Canon is the son of two immigrants who arrived to the United States after fleeing violence, persecution, and war. Born and raised in the USA, Canon is thankful to be able to walk in his LA neighborhood with open skies.
A modern-day alchemist, Canon turns emotions into stories that help audiences heal. Known for exploring deep, dark, and challenging subject matters, his films live in bare reality, yet his childlike wonder gives them a touch of magic.
Canon's short film, WHEN A FLAME STANDS STILL (2016), has touched audiences around the globe, earned him a place on Variety's list of the "Top Students to Watch," and was recognized by the BAFTA Student Film Awards. His most recent short, CA-DENCE (2021), was safely shot during the peak of the pandemic and will hop on the festival circuit in August 2021.
In addition to his degree in Cinema & Television Arts, Canon took Robert McKee's Story Seminar, studied psychology, and became a story analyst for Mad Chance Productions (American Sniper, 10 Things I hate About You). Before graduating, he was a production assistant on multiple mainstream studio pictures, including Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION where he saved thirteen lives.
Canon's L.A. based production company, STAND STILL ENTERTAINMENT, cut its ribbons during the peek of the COVID-19 pandemic and has multiple shorts & features various phases of production.
In between the above, Canon writes literature, plants trees, and teaches documentary filmmaking to students at Holocaust Museum L.A.
