HBO Max offers sampling of Britbox comedies, dramas

Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) is adding a sampling of comedies and dramas from Britbox to its HBO Max streaming platform as part of a limited-run promotion.

The promotion started on Friday and runs through the end of September, during which HBO Max will offer 15 shows from Britbox at no extra cost.

It is the second time HBO Max has showcased content from another brand since it launched several years ago. Last year, when it was known as “Max,” the streaming app offered select titles from AMC Plus; executives at AMC Networks affirmed that the partnership brought in new subscribers to AMC Plus based on the exposure brought by the Max deal.

15 BritBox Series Are Now Streaming On HBO Max For A Limited Time

HBO Max subscribers will have free access to a great selection of British mystery, comedy, and drama titles for two months in a new deal with BritBox. In the US, Canada, Australia, and the Nordics, BritBox is the streaming home of the BBC's and ITV's best productions, including global hits such as Idris Elba's Luther and cozy crime sensation Father Brown.

As reported by Variety, starting today, August 1, until September 29,HBO Max subscribers in the US will have access to 15 carefully curated BritBox titles. There will be no additional cost to view these shows; users will find them in a dedicated section of the app titled "The Best of British TV by BritBox."

The available titles include the original UK version of The Office, a selection of Agatha Christie miniseries, and the 28-season-and-counting forensic crime drama Silent Witness. Check out the full list below:

HBO Max is picking up more than a dozen fan-favorite shows thanks to a new agreement with BritBox. Thanks to the deal, fans can enjoy a selection of British entertainment for a limited time.

Per Variety, HBO Max in the U.S. will include 15 BritBox titles at no additional cost to subscribers from Aug. 1 until Sept. 29. The shows will be made accessible via a dedicated in-app section rail called "The Best of British TV by BritBox." The most notable series featured in the lineup are The Office, starring Ricky Gervais, and the first two seasons of the hit crime thriller, Luther, starring Idris Elba.

Like previous deals with fellow streaming services such as AMC+, HBO Max's new deal with BritBox is aimed at getting audiences interested enough to sign up for another streaming service, all while providing HBO's own platform with an influx of viewership hours and the potential for new licensing agreements.

HBO Max is crossing the Pond in a new promotional pact with BritBox, the streamer specializing in U.K. TV dramas, comedies and murder mysteries.

From Aug. 1 through Sept. 29, HBO Max in the U.S. will feature a sampling of 15 of BritBox series, at no additional cost to HBO Max subscribers. The shows will be presented on HBO Max through a dedicated in app rail called “The Best of British TV by BritBox.” The lineup includes the original U.K. version of Ricky Gervais’ “The Office” mocku-series and the first two seasons of “Luther” starring Idris Elba.

Financial terms aren’t being disclosed, but the deal is being described as mutually beneficial. HBO Max is giving U.S. subscribers a taste of British television series like Luther and The Office thanks to a short-term digital arrangement with BritBox.

From August 1 through September 29, HBO Max will launch a “programming pop-up” featuring a sampling of 15 different British television series that are available via BritBox, which is currently one of the largest and fastest-growing specialty streaming services in the U.S.

Titles available throughout the entire engagement include Seasons 1 and 2 of Blue Lights, Agatha Christie’s Murder Is Easy, Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, Father Brown, Shakespeare & Hathaway, Silent Witness, Sister Bonaface, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Seasons 1 and 2 of The Office as well as both parts of The Office Christmas special, and The Sixth Commandment.

Warner Bros. Discovery Moves All Global Streaming Content Acquisitions Teams Under US Head Royce Battleman

Warner Bros. Discovery is reorganizing its streaming division, TheWrap has learned. The company’s streaming content acquisition teams across its global territories will now fall under the U.S.-based Royce Battleman. She is also being promoted to executive vice president of global content acquisitions.

As part of this shuffling, Battleman will now oversee content acquisitions across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. She will report directly to Joshua Walker, Chief Financial and Strategy Officer. Battleman previously served as the head of U.S. content acquisitions for Max and Discovery+, the company’s two streaming services.

“Establishing this global team allows us to better manage worldwide and multi-regional content partners and optimize deals across all regions,” Walker said in a statement to press. “The structure will ensure that our acquisitions are tightly aligned with our global content strategy, planning and analysis, and financials for Max and discovery+ platforms worldwide.

‘Batman: The Audio Adventures’ Podcast Leads HBO Max’s Audio Push

HBO Max is the latest television company to ramp up its push into podcasts.

The WarnerMedia streamer has made a number of moves in the audio space and is bringing together a number of projects under the HBO Max banner and platform.

The company is launching Batman: The Audio Adventures, a scripted original starring Jeffrey Wright as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Catwoman and John Leguizamo as the Riddler.

This is separate from DC Comics’ own Batman podcast that it is making with Spotify. It comes as rivals such as Netflix also step up their plans in the audio space.

HBO Max is also launching its first look-back audio series, centered around Band of Brothers, prepping a new Insecure spin-off podcast and expanding its deal with podcast firm Audacy.

This comes as the HBO Max Podcast Program has grown from four podcasts to over 25 including companion series based on shows such as Chernobyl and Lovecraft Country.
