CBS Buys Entrepreneur Comedy From Adrienne Rose White, Aliee Chan, Christopher Case, Cedric The Entertainer & Avalon Entertainment
CBS has put in development a multi-camera comedy from Quirky Female Protagonist‘s Adrienne Rose White and Aliee Chan, Sin City Saints co-creator Chris Case, Cedric the Entertainer and his A Bird And a Bear Productions, Avalon Entertainment (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) and CBS Television Studios.

Written by White, Chan and Case, the Untitled White/Chan/Case Project revolves around two young women who hatch an outrageous plan to raise capital for their new sports app after repeatedly being turned down by investors.

White, Chan and Case executive produce with Cedric the Entertainer and Eric Rhone for A Bird and A Bear Productions and Avalon Entertainment’s Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, David Martin, Jakob Markovits and Aaron Brown. CBS Television Studios produces in association with A Bird and A Bear Productions.

White and Chan starred together in the six-episode parody web series Quirky Female Protagonist, which Chan wrote and White produced.

“The Neighborhood” star Cedric the Entertainer is set to executive produce an untitled multi-camera project in the works at CBS, Variety has learned.

The series follows two young women who, after repeatedly being turned down by investors, hatch an outrageous plan to raise capital for their new sports app. According to sources, the project had been in development under the title “How to Be a White Guy,” with the two main characters recruiting a white man to pose as the CEO of their company.

The project hails from creators Adrienne Rose White and Aliee Chan, who will also executive produce along with co-writer Christopher Case. Eric Rhone of Cedric’s A Bird and a Bear Productions will also executive produce along with Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, David Martin, Jakob Markovits, and Aaron Brown of Avalon Entertainment. CBS Television Studios, where A Bird and a Bear currently has a development deal, will produce.

Indie Spotlight: ‘Personified’ And ‘Quirky Female Protagonist’ Spoof Comedy Tropes
This week on Indie Spotlight, we're doing something a little different: Instead of profiling a single series, we're looking at two separate projects that share thematic similarities. The shows in question are Quirky Female Protagonist, from creator Aliee Chan, and Personified, from creators Noah Baron and Ross Willett. While their specific targets are different -- the former series is spoofing girl-power comedies like Sex and the City and Girls, while the latter takes on Apatowian bromances -- they both feature comedy that simultaneously acknowledges comedy conventions and makes fun of them.

Quirky Female Protagonist takes those tropes and crafts an entire series around their predictability. The titular protagonist, portrayed by Chan, is what her name implies: She's a young, sassy lady living in the big city. In each episode, she hangs out with her appropriately-labeled supporting cast, whose names range from "Straight-Laced Bestie" to "Random Filler Friend," and speaks only...
